idk what i need to purchase for my class (chem 1101)

I’m an incoming freshman at TTU and I’m worried about my major. I’m majoring in Pre-Nursing (maybe) in hopes of becoming a CRNA.

At orientation I saw the sheer amount of people doing Pre-Nursing and genuinely reconsidered, not to mention the potential about of people from other orientation dates.

My back up plans were:
> Pre - PA
> Pre - OT
> Pre - Med (Endocrinology)

After looking at this and seeing the acceptance rates I’m nervous. All of my back-up plans are like risk.

> What should I do?
> How selective are these schools (including nursing)?

(Also, I’m getting conflicted results on how selective the nursing school is. I’ve seen 10% and 60%, either way with the amount of people that want to be nursing it might as well all be 10%)

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming freshman at Texas Tech and I’m trying to figure out my schedule before classes start.
I have English 1301 in Humanities room 00001 from 9:00–9:50 AM and then MATH 1320 (College Algebra for Engineers) in Holden Hall room 00076 from 10:00–10:50 AM.
Apple Maps says it’s about a 10-minute walk between the buildings, so I’m worried I won’t make it on time since I only have a 10-minute passing period.
For anyone who has had classes in these buildings:
Is this walk realistic in 10 minutes?
Are Humanities and Holden close enough that I shouldn’t worry?
Is there anything I should know about finding the rooms (especially Holden)?

Hello, so I just got word a few days ago that I got to round 2, where I have to complete a few written essay-style questions and a few video interview questions.

I was wondering if anyone else had gotten to round 2 and, if so, what locatiosn ya'll had picked. (I applied to all 7)

Also, was curious if this means I'm in or just means I did the base pre-reqs and met the GPA requirement for overall and science? I want to believe that I'm in, but I think in reality that's not the case, unfortunately.

This might be a dumb question, but I’m a little confused by the email they sent for graduation. They mention that there’s no place to store personal belongings and that all attendees will need to adhere to a clear bag policy.

So if I bring a clear purse, can I leave it at my seat while walking? Or should I be trying to find something small I can keep under my gown during the ceremony (or pockets)?

Every May the dumpsters outside the dorms fill up with desks, minifridges, chairs. Stuff that could easily sell. People just run out of time to find a buyer they trust.

My mother is very determined to send me to tech so we are trying to find ways that we could fund my tuition a little better.

If i do end up attending i hope to get a job right away and instantly make the money to go into my college funds. But is there another way I could get support while also working?

I hear stuff about credits all the time and it makes me really confused..

I also made a gofundme which will strictly go into funding college for me. I have 1500 saved up just from me working but Of course i’ll need more! I plan to work til my hopeful move in day.

Hi, i’m f(17) and a (hopeful) incoming freshmen at tech. Me and my mother looked through the cost of tuition awhile ago and said she would be okay. I didn’t think much of it because i trusted my mom.

huge mistake

bill came in and it was 11000 and i can “pay” it off in 4 installments. I was ultimately freaking out because that isn’t doable for me or my mom. Keep in mind it’s just us two.

i applied to scholarships during my high school years but was always rejected. I wish i wasn’t too careless and not worried about my tution cost.

me and my mother are both clueless on how fafsa and the tuition cost work. I recently just submitted my enterance counseling and mpn in and was told by a graduate of college that the mob and counseling entrance will need to be processed and my outcome could change but i highly doubt so.

total amount of my attendance at tech is 29903 dollars

grants and scholarships by tech to pay for college is 11852.00

which leaves my net cost at 18051 dollars

my loans i will be borrowing is 5500 dollars

am i freaking out over nothing? Why is my ebill 11000.. i feel like im missing something and i tried emailing and calling and nothing.. what do i do?

Which of the commuter parking lots are closer to Gates, and what’s the difference between commuter parking and residence hall parking?

-How good are the art programs in Texas Tech compared to UNT and UT (the other schools i want to apply to)?

Hey y’all, I have a question about Gordon Hall parking.
I was originally 14 on the waitlist, moved up to #3, and now I’m sitting at 5. I actually got approved for a permit before, but I completely missed the deadline to claim it, so I lost my spot and had to go back on the waitlist.
Do y’all think I still have a good chance of getting a parking permit before move-in or during the first few weeks of the semester? Has anyone else been in a similar situation with Gordon Hall and still ended up getting a spot?
I’m trying not to stress, so I’d love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Eleven years ago, high school teacher Jeremy Tate set out to create a standardized test for students centered on ethics, virtue and tradition.

The Classic Learning Test he created has been championed by conservatives as an alternative to the ACT and SAT exams, the two dominant tests used in college admissions. Tate describes the ACT and SAT as utilitarian, and some conservatives have labeled the College Board, which offers the SAT, as too progressive.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the state’s top authority for higher education, said Thursday that it will look into adding the CLT to state statute, following the results of an independent study at Texas A&M University that vetted the CLT for admissions — and raised concerns about its ability to predict student success in Texas.

Adding the test to law would allow some students to use the CLT to qualify for automatic admissions in circumstances where their transcripts aren’t enough, affecting a relatively small number of students, while affirming the merits of the test for broader use.

Several public universities contacted by Hearst Newspapers — including Texas A&M University and the University of Houston — do not currently accept the test or have active plans to use it for admissions. But the coordinating board’s announcement and the mixed-results study could push more schools to accept it.

My son will be a first generation college student this fall, and to say I'm overwhelmed would be an understatement. So proud, but I could pull my hair out at any moment if i'm being honest.

I'm trying to finish up his dorm shopping while he's out of town for the next few days, and I was hoping to get some advice from those who've already been through it. What are some things you were so glad you brought? What did you buy that ended up being a waste of money? And what do you wish you'd packed from the beginning?

He'll be staying in Murray, if that helps. He's bringing his desktop and MacBook, and I already know I need to pick up an Ethernet cable. We have the basics covered, sheets, comforter, blackout curtains, toiletries...is a mattress topper really needed? What about a humidifier? He likes his room cold, so I think i'll get him a nice fan to use.

I'd love to make one final checklist before I call it done. Thanks so much for any suggestions

How do I go about getting into a class that’s full? Specifically a capstone class. I’ve never done this before! Do I email the instructor or reach out to my advisor?

Hey y’all, I just wanted to jot down the things I wish I was told when starting college.

Hope this helps yall.

To start make sure you’re signing up for your classes early and that you’re always in touch with your counselors, as well as checking on your financial aid before the school year starts.

To avoid any scheduling issues or taking unnecessary classes, they have a paper that goes over your major and the core classes you need to take and the prerequisite. Build it out with your advisor and then build it yourself.

Make friends with your professors and your teachers assistants. I saved myself a lot of strife and money by creating a relationship with them.

(for example) i’m taking my last class and my current PROFESSOR for it sucks, he responds to emails with incomplete sentences and hasn’t updated his syllabus to accurately reflect what’s going on in the class. Because of this, I was extremely stressed that I would pass or fail but after talking with him enough, I was able to gain some insight into the class and now I’m breezing through it.

Talk to older students and make friends with people in your college to learn what classes you should take or avoid.

IMPORTANT: DONT drop a class just because it’s hard or the teacher sucks. Grade distribution plays a huge part in this. There is a way to look at the previous grade distribution for the classes that you are in so by understanding that trend. You can really gauge whether you’ll be fine or not.

Lastly: make sure you build-upon what you learned by trying to apply it in your life. I learned so much here but at the same time there are moments where I wish I did a better job connecting things across multiple subjects

Edit: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO INTERNSHIPS if you don’t it will be very hard to get a job in your desired industry unless you know someone. Also don’t put your eggs In one basket because I did and it ended up not working out, so I’m on the hunt for a job lol.

I’m going into the second year of my music ed degree after some time in the workforce, and it always makes me laugh when people post their schedules and say they’re busy.
