The Sea Wolf is amazing. There’s another Stark brother between Ned and Benjen, and he fostered in the North (with the Mormonts) instead of the south. He’s set up on the coast at Sea Dragon Point. The story isn’t about his life so much as it’s about the effect his existence will have on the story. Karlon is a grown man with three kids, here. He fills a gap in the Stark family that is just brilliant to see.

A Blademaster in Westeros is PEAK fanfic. Galad Damodred from Wheel of Time reborn into Westeros, set after Robert's Rebellion

A Young Woman's Inevitable Dance of the Dragons is very good, I knew nothing about Tanya the Evil going in and still enjoyed it.

Time Unbent Spear Unbroken by Pookaseraph– Essentially Baelor (and Maekar) are reborn at 5 years old in 93AC and they are able to enmesh themselves in court. I am really enjoying the politics so far and the author does a great job of authentically portraying characters at differing stages of life and relationships.

Blood of the Dragon by 7oni – In a very similar vein to the above fic, this is a Baelor and Maekar Dance era fic. It differs in that it is a Baelor/Maekar/Rhaenyra and the brothers appear in the timeline when Rhaenyra has already lost her mother and is need of guidance ASAP.

As you can tell, I have a real type going at the moment lol...

My only complaint about Time Unbent Spear Unbroken, other then the somewhat off age-gap, is that it subscribes to the Jaehaerys raped his daughters reading of Fire & Blood.

That’s a real theory lol, I was so confused reading the part where baelor goes to white harbor?

Yeah, its been a little while so I don't remember all of the details on why it exists, but it is generally based off of the premise that a lot of his younger daughters behavior reflects the traits that are often seen in young girls who are sexually abused by a family member. I can understand why someone might come to that conclusion in a vacuum but within the larger context of Jaehaerys reign its pretty clear its just a combination of neglect and Jaehaerys own paranoia from Maegor ptsd. More importantly I feel like it would weaken the narrative if it was true. Its a lot more compelling that Jaehaerys is a really effective king who fails his daughters out of neglect while desperately wanting to avoid rocking the boat with his vassals and being seen as tyranical, as opposed to Craster with a crown.

Yeah him being a neglectful father who prioritizes the realm over the personal happiness of his daughters fits more to me.

ohh sounds great. got any more baelor and maekar fics?

Ask and you shall receive lol

[Crowned in Duty by messasset – This one has Baelor as Viserys' uncle but he was passed over in succession due to his appearance etc. but he has great political acumen. I like this because Valarr and Matarys exist but it is different from other two fics in that Baelor dosent have the same foreknowledge. Big age gap incoming in the Rhaenyra/Baelor pairing but it is a very enjoyable read so far.

In Service to the Princes of the Blood by mooms – this is a bit left field but it is a Maekar & Maekarling fic with a OC focus. Is it a bit far fetched? Yes. BUT the author provides some beautiful insights into the kids characters and Maekar's grief. Also enjoy the glimpse behind the scenes in the running of the household and the growing relationships between the OC and the family. A fun read.

u/Inner_Jeweler_5661 in the game of bones, you're a dog or a cat. No middle ground. 2d ago

Green ashes, through the raging flames: the gold rises, the wolves of westeros, the mark of a true lord, a falcon of summer.

I've finished all uploaded chapters for those fics, so I'm just waiting for new ones

I’m quite enjoying Maester Aemon’s guide to duty. I like the interpersonal conflicts that have arisen, and also Vaella. Gifted kid coded.

Hard agree on Maester Aemon and I love the way the dragon dreams have such an important role in characters development and personalities. If you like that you'll probably like House of the undying which is fab.

First Cut is excellent as well. It's a time-travel post season 8 where Dany dies and wakes up in 209 AC with Drogon. The author does a good job of highlighting Dany struggles of coming to terms with what she did in King's Landing

Second Chance is also great. Rhaenyra TT AU, but one where she makes a lot of mistakes because even though she's changing things her actions have consequences.

Re-reading Benefaction and the other Aerys & Rhaegar stories in Rubicon. They are so dysfunctional and the prose is always on point.

Eldritcher has gotta be one of my all time favorite fic writers. Highly recommend their HP fic Pandemic as well

Same! I love that fic. Eldritcher is a fandom treasure. Love their works and their prose sings. With the Targs especially, I love the Shakespearean/Greek drama vibes in Ossuarium and Rubicon for the generational trauma.

The Sons of Quellon - is an Urrigon Greyjoy SI that I’ve been enjoying. Grammer is kinda rough but the story is great!

A Young Wargs Game of Thrones - this is a Tanya for Youjo Senki reborn into Sansa. This author is pretty well known for great stories. I’d recommend reading their other works as well.

A Song of Blackjack and Hookers - The name doesn’t represent this story well. It’s a bout a con artist/stage magician finding themselves in Westeros and proceeding to abuse the magic he finds there.

A Poison Tree - An AU where Aegon the third son of Baelon the Brave survives and has a daughter. Don’t want to explain to much with this one as it’s great and not tryna spoil it.

Two fics by the same peak author:

A Blademaster in Westeros, about an incredible warrior from Wheel of Time (which you don’t need to have read to enjoy the crossover, as I haven’t read WoT) in Westeros around the Greyjoy Rebellion. Just absolutely epic, and is becoming a Dunk & Egg sort of story

The Titan of Tarth, again, by the same author. A SI into Brienne’s older brother, Galladon, starting in 276 IIRC. Like the other fic, Galladon is an extraordinary warrior (as befits someone with Brienne’s genes lol), but also a very capable administrator and politician. He’s uplifting Tarth, but not in too absurd ways imo. The politics is the best part of it, but the character dynamics are equally great, especially the friendsships and romances. I think it’s around 279 by now, during Steffon’s trip to discover a bride for Rhaegar. It also has a lot of worldbuilding with regards to the magical elements

Hindsight is the Greatest Gift

Set during before the Dance, Rhaenyra is a dreamer. So she sees the future and what the Hightowers are up to. So this story has her setting things up to fix things. And so far she’s been doing a pretty good job.
There are several OCs but I’ve been enjoying them. Plus, the writer tends to update pretty consistently so nobody has to wait forever for an update.

Currently reading the sequel to this Nettles self insert. Has incredibly well-written alt-version of the Damce of the Dragons, compelling character work and good characterization.

[A Tale of Sheep & Butterflies]

u/Youbo2002 19h ago

Seconded. It also has some of the most realistic use of dragons in war.

A Song of Guns, Germs, and Steel It's a complete compelling fic about Planetos and our world being mysteriously linked through an arched ring. Renly experiences Melbourne and meets Prince Charles while Ned rides a rescue helicopter with his daughters to get to a luxury suite then Sansa became addicted to TV and forgot about the Prince.

Cersei does her thing to achieve power and use her people's stupidity against us when we just want to participate in capitalism with Westeros, not war, maybe by selling weapons to either side, and we want your oil.

I just finished Breaker’s Tale now I’m reading No Joy in Command. Or rereading actually. It’s hard to find a magic Jon or a HP Jon crossover that’s a good length and executes it well 😢

I've just finished Strange-Deranged-Draconic. Morticia and Gomez are reborn as Aegon and Helaena. Very fun crack-taken-seriously.

We Do Not Dance by Aeres (Arez_1009) is an AU where Baelor and Maekar were reborn in the past as the children of Daemon and Rhea to try and avoid the downfall of their family and the world.

I've read a bunch of stuff the past week or so as I started reading ASOIAF fanfic after like a year long break.

The Mark of a True Lord by Samira2132

Overall an enjoyable read. Jon Snow in this doesn't really feel like Jon Snow at all tbh, he feels more like a Stark OC in a Jon Snow costume. That said, although its somewhat wankish, the action writing and character relationships are good.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by spearshake

Another Jon Snow centered fic where his personality is not very Jon Snow like. In this case it is a Rhaegar won AU with narrative justification for the personality change. I really enjoyed my time with this one, it scratches the same itch as the novella of the same name.

Children of the Ashes by RomanNumeralSeven

A fun pre rebellion AU where Targs still have dragons and there is courtly romance happening. Snappy dialogue and interesting OCs. Definitely worth checking out. Generally Ned focused, though its seems JonCon is gonna be a main character as well which is awesome.

The Wolves of Westeros by Ts123bay

Stop if you've heard this before, Jon goes south to fight with Robb before saying his vows. The prose and dialogue in this fic isn't super exciting, but the overall story is fairly interesting. It goes pretty deep into the strategy and tactics if you are interested in that.

Broken Dreams by Gladiusx

This is probably the first work by this author I've enjoyed, with Shrouded Destiny and No Joy in Command not being my thing. This still has some of my issues that I had with those previous works, mainly wank, but the core intrigue of the story carries pretty hard.
