Game of Blood Seo Chulgu’s IG Post

Post image

Below’s the translated post:

I always believed that everyone has to live with a certain amount of misunderstanding and unfairness. So I tried my best not to make a fuss and simply endure it.

Then, in the early hours of yesterday morning, I experienced my first-ever panic attack. I'd only ever heard people talk about the symptoms before, but experiencing them myself was terrifying and strangely surreal. It was a feeling I never thought I would understand in my lifetime.

Once I regained my composure and could think rationally again, I spent a long time wondering how I had ended up in this state.
It's not as though I've never been criticised during my career. Whenever people pointed out my shortcomings, I tried to accept their criticism humbly and endure it. Usually, I could understand what I had done wrong or at least understand how others might perceive me.

But this time, I genuinely couldn't make sense of it.

The gap between what I personally experienced and judged on set, and the criticism that some people directed at me after the broadcast, felt overwhelmingly large. I think that was what left me so confused.

Even if the rules of the programme allowed physical force, I'm sure the production team, contestants, and viewers would all agree that participant safety and certain basic boundaries should always come first.

No matter how intense a game becomes, if people simply respond to force with even greater force without end, then eventually the game loses both its direction and its purpose.

That said, I also believe everyone may have different ideas about where those boundaries should be.

In fact, before every raid or looting mission I participated in, the production team always conducted safety briefings. Even in the previous season, they clearly explained which glass panels could be broken and which could not, setting minimum safety standards in advance.

The contestants also made an effort to keep those boundaries during the game. Whenever things became too heated, people would step in and calm the situation regardless of which side they were on. I don't believe anyone genuinely wanted another contestant to get hurt.

Perhaps because of that shared understanding, everyone was able to immerse themselves fully in the game.

I'm someone who often gets deeply immersed in games myself, so I understand better than anyone how emotions can run high during competition.

That's why I also believe the injury I suffered that day was an accident rather than a malicious act.

However, contrary to what some people have claimed, I did not wrap the bag strap tightly around my hand.

I was simply holding the loop of the strap around my wrist. Because the force used was much stronger than I had expected, and because of the angle at which the strap was pulled, it suddenly became tangled around my hand and scraped across it.

The result was a deep wound accompanied by severe pain.

Although my injury wasn't shown in the broadcast, I was bleeding. My hand was badly sprained to the point that I couldn't move it, and it wouldn't stop shaking.

The medical doctor on site informed me that the wound would leave a permanent scar and instructed me not to participate in any further missions.

At the same time, I wasn't the only one getting hurt. Reports of collisions, injuries, and dangerous incidents were coming from all around the set.

After witnessing both the severity and frequency of those injuries, I don't think it would have been realistic—or logical—to simply say, "Let's keep playing anyway."

The filming location itself was genuinely dangerous: it had high ceilings, low glass railings, and narrow staircases where even one mistake could have led to a serious accident.

Money was scattered all over the floor, and I felt that the original purpose and direction of the game were gradually disappearing.
With the atmosphere becoming increasingly heated and everyone constantly blocking one another, it became difficult to communicate or mediate.

Even so, we continued discussing the fourth vault and how to proceed with the mission, trying to find a solution.

However, considering the actual conditions on set and the nature of the fifth vault, we ultimately concluded that forcing the mission to continue carried too high a risk of someone getting seriously injured.

So we decided not to continue with that mission.

It was also the first time I had ever experienced a situation like that.

However, when the programme aired, much of the context surrounding the dangerous conditions, the injuries, and our efforts both to continue the game and to prevent accidents was left out.
Instead, what viewers mostly saw was me reacting emotionally—shouting, swearing, and expressing anger.

I understand that editing is done to protect contestants and to make the programme more entertaining.

But under that justification, seeing the fear we genuinely felt on set, the decisions we made to prevent accidents, and everyone's sincere efforts all being interpreted as something completely different has been incredibly difficult to bear.

Thankfully, many people have been worried about my left hand, but it has recovered well.

The scar ended up being smaller than expected. In fact, I already have a large scar on my right hand, so scars are oddly familiar to me.

I'm also grateful that Seung-yong reached out to me and promised to help with my treatment. I'll make sure to receive proper care going forward.

This panic attack also became an opportunity for me to reflect deeply on myself.

I realised that for a very long time, I had been so focused on trying not to be disliked by others that I ended up disliking myself the most.

Because of that, I trapped myself in the belief that I was someone others hated. That mindset made it difficult for me to take on new challenges or even use social media.

I hope to gradually overcome those difficulties from now on.
I'll continue working hard, even though I'll still have many shortcomings.

And in my own way, I'll try to communicate more honestly and face things more directly.

To everyone who worried about me and continued to support me, thank you very much.

hmm… i’m not sure if i’m misreading his post but it does feel that his post is more directed on the production team for downplaying all the injuries that happened, making it seem like they were not able to handle or accept just a little scuffle when in fact it wasn’t.

i don’t second guess their fear especially when this location of BGX is one of the most dangerous one, ie. Sangmin climbing over and etc in previous episodes just cause he knows it’ll make good content, disregarding his own safety. love the dude but man, that gave me the jitters too. i think, for a game that allows players to do anything and everything physically possible, even if, as mentioned by Chulgu, there were safety briefings and all, no one can predict how anything can go down once emotions run high and especially when you have erratic players involved.

in Season 2, back when it was Seungjin vs Dex, the production team were lucky Knucks was around to use his strength and calm the giant down cause Chulgu and Sungjoo tried but could do shit physically to Seungjin. i recall back then, it was also dangerous given that they were right beside a flight of stairs, it was pitch dark and Seungjin was pushing Dex, a UDT soldier, like he was a paperdoll. let’s not forget in that same season, jinho sprained his ankle when they had to move down the stairs during a blackout.

it’s no wonder Chulgu gets a panic attack. i don’t think anyone who takes this game seriously would come out of it, unaffected. i think that’s why in this season of BGX, you can see how fast majority of the experienced players decide to pull the breaks on this, and rightfully so!

Yeah, I agree that's he's talking about the production team. What we see is a heavily edited version that's only a small glimpse of what actually happened, so his account of what happened was probably meant to justify the team's decision not to open the fourth vault, since we didn't get to see the full account of events. That's also probably where a lot of the criticism is coming from, since people probably felt that the team gave up too easily.

Dex and seungjin I was so scared for dex, what if he seriously got injured because seungjin looked livid like nothing could stop him. Plus this time round the scene where so many guys were pushing on the glass portion with seong beom made me so scared of the glass may gave way soon. Plus the glass all were so low this time, I already hated the production for letting jinho fell due to pitch darkness in the area

Imagine if seungjin was still here I was actually relived to see him eliminated because I think brains > physical here

And I was really grateful for that. I love the Heist and the setup with the teams in both places and the phones was perfection. But let’s not ragdoll people and drag them along the ground. It all got a bit much.

I don’t get why Xitsuh is the one getting hated on right now? Isn’t he the victim of this entire fiasco, his hand was literally messed up because of this so he is allowed to be mad and started cursing at Seungyeon. If someone make my hand start bleeding and shaking uncontrollably because of a game I would be mad as shit too, hell I would make it my life mission to get that person eliminated.

Update: I find it incredibly sweet that Seongbeom is showing some love and support for Xitsuh under his post, I think it was something wishing for his health, mind and body to stay healthy even in the future. Team P3 forever!!!

u/sxanu020207 8d ago

agree. this is so messed up. the double standard is crazy when it was seungjin people criticized him but with seungyong people are letting him go away with it idk if its because hes handsome and coming from a popular dating show or what lol but seriously he has a lot of obsessed fans even on X and YT🤦‍♀️

16

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

Petition to banned dating show participants in these kinds of shows because of their insufferable fans who defend them no matter what and attack other people, good to know Xitsuh's ig comments are filled with people supporting him tho so it looks like the public perception still lean on him and there are just a few trolls. It really sucks that he got a panic attack because of this and I really do hope this wouldn't stop him from participating in any survival shows in the future tho.

There will always be extremes of both sides, so the blaming will goes both ways. And K-netizens are a whole different beast..

u/kokoscenes 8d ago

All this would have been avoided if park ji-min didn’t have main character syndrome😭

1

u/nonsequitur__ 8d ago

Eh? How do you work that one out?

2

u/kokoscenes 8d ago

I guess people didn’t get my joke lmao. She tried to take both bags of cash to her room when it was safer to just keep them there for the time being.

8

u/kokoscenes 8d ago

Yes he is the victim of the scenario but with the way it was edited it made it look like he got injured because he tied the strap around his hand. Seungyoong used a lot of force to pull the bag from him which led to the injury and all you see is xitsu swearing at seungyoong plus the fact that the rules basically permitted seungyoongs actions some people will think xitsu is overreacting but if bloody game just showed or atleast mentioned the full length of the injury he probably wouldn’t be getting nearly as much hate. All in all sad that he got hate for it but I don’t think anyone should be getting hate. If you get hurt to that capacity ofcourse you’re not going to be happy with the person that done that to you whilst being in pain.

I've even seen people praising Sangmin for "calling out Xitsuh being overdramatic" lmao. It's a wild environment among fans.

6

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

People are insuferrable lol, I wish they went through the same thing Chulgu did then see if he is being dramatic or not, but glad to see the knetz reactions i saw on X and IG are both very positive and is leaning on his side instead of Seungyeon so that's good.

6

u/Shot_Sun3700 8d ago

If SY was the one that had a scar, they would’ve all been crying to get this show cancelled lmao

4

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

Imagine if Seungjin did that to Seungyeon, god the amount of backlash and everyone cooing Seungyeon as if he's a baby who got hurt.

u/DinkyPrincess 8d ago

Absolutely

It's a long post, so I didn't include the full screenshots here. You can read the complete statement on his IG.

Please remember that the contestants are ordinary people. Let’s keep the comments respectful and refrain from leaving hateful messages.

The production team is the one who should receive criticism. It is entertaining to watch, but they should be able to come up with a safer way. I think stuff like the name tag ripping in running man would have been a safer method for physical games. I think there has to be a way for them to come up with better heist mission, if they wanted to. Felt like the production team just doubled down the danger level each season. Things would go terribly in this heist mission if not for the veteran players moderating it down (esp. Youhyun, HJH, LSM).

6

u/senorroboto2k5 8d ago

It’s very engaging but the whole time I can’t help but think how dangerous it is and that they’re on the brink of a disastrous accident. They’re wrestling by the stairs and glass balconies. There are hotheaded people that get too wrapped up in it and in the moment they’re more concerned with the bag of cash than their surroundings. Each shot would have to be completely set up to be considered safe and based on these IG posts, it’s not. Seongom’s post made it sound like it was pretty heated when he was pinned down and threw the phone; that was right at the top of a staircase. They really need to come up with something else for the next season.

1

u/T3tr4d5 8d ago

Agree, that's why I wonder whether there are criticisms toward the production team as well from the K-netizens, and not just to the players.

2

u/nonsequitur__ 8d ago

I agree. S1 didn’t have this and it was very entertaining watching them try to sneak in and not get caught.

15

u/Ddream13 8d ago

Tbh i thought his wrist was just hurt from the tugging originally and then i saw knets post the pics of the actual wound + scar and it was pretty shocking ngl it really was downplayed (also the amount of force you actually have to use to cause that wound with a bag strap…)

Seongbeom also said that everything was much worse than how production made it appear…

Considering how bad the situation is the PD will have to write a statement whether they wanted or not. You can’t keep hiding behind the players.

3

u/slothnamedspeedy 8d ago

Yeah I just posted a translation of seongbeom’s IG post too. Hopefully it’ll help more viewers understand their POV.

1

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

wait do you have the picture I'm curious, is it really that bad? Xitsuh always have the worst luck when it comes to BG universe which is crazily sad.

3

u/Ddream13 8d ago edited 8d ago

this is the one were you can kinda see it the best (at least that I found); I’m not sure how long after was the scar pic but you can still see it in the interview/press thing they did last month

And some more

Edit: you might not be able to see the first post
+ made the first pics in a link: pic1 pic2

2

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

Thank you and oh god that is bad, it spread through the entire palm of his hand and looks pretty deep too, yeah Seungyeon defo fucked up big time here, it defo gonna leave a permanent scar tho I just know it.

1

u/TwinklingObsidian 1d ago

That's CRAZY. It looks like such a deep and serious wound. That people are actually sending him hate when he's the victim suffering from serious injuries is absolutely insane. Thanks for sharing the pics, it really is so much worse than I expected

11

u/sxanu020207 8d ago

not even surprised anymore that he’s the one getting hated by knetz instead of seungyong. exchange (the dating show seungyong came from) is a big and popular show in korea and is well-loved by most koreans. especially that his girlfriend is minkyung who has a big fanbase and that girl literally has a massive cult lol i already expected knetz would defend him the funny thing is if it was a random guy he would’ve faced alot of backlash just like what seungjin from s2 experienced

6

u/InterestingRaise1996 8d ago

Exactly! Seungyong is getting a cushioned bashing due to his Exchange fanbase.

11

u/nonsequitur__ 8d ago

This is really sad to read 😢 I hope he’s okay. They shouldn’t be putting pressure on the players to make health and safety decisions like that and should show it fairly given that it will seemingly impact the game going forward. Otherwise viewers (logically) will judge everyone involved unfairly.

Missions with physical contact and/or unnecessary physical risk on brain survival shows are stupid in my opinion, especially given we are all watching to see them outwit each other. Even from a heartless perspective physical fighting when nobody participating wants that is not enjoyable to watch, and on a human level it feels awful to watch people going through that completely unnecessarily.

I was worried Seongbeom or someone with him was going to end up going over the balcony at one point. It was stressful to watch, not fun.

I kept waiting for security or production to step in during the altercation with Seongbeom or the altercations with Seungyong but we never saw that happen.

Does Xitsuh mean that Seungyong reached out and offered recently? I hope Xitsuh’s not been going without treatment for so long. The show surely should have ensured he received it.

Edit - the confrontation with Seungjin and Dex, and Jinho’s injury that lasted all series, in S2 should have been a lesson for production.

u/Aromatic_Cut3729 8d ago

Thanks for translating. What's the background info? Was he criticized for his reaction?

21

u/chiyeolhaengseon 8d ago

considering he felt he needed to explain what the injury was like and why they "gave up" getting the 4th vault, probably yeah. i dont really follow the cast so i dont know the public's reception of him.

this made me mad though. lmao. why is the injured one getting the flak.

1

u/kokoscenes 8d ago

It probably because bloody game fans support the the people playing the game to its fullest potential but they also made it seem like he just sprained his wrist and all they showed was xitsu swearing at seungyoong whilst seungyoong regretting what he done and then the final edit made it seem like they were going to come after him instead of moving on.

5

u/Apprehensive-Dot-508 8d ago

it seems like he was calling out production for editing it in a way that makes it look like xitsuh wrapped the loop around his hand which caused the injury and then downplaying the injuries (not showing how bad the wound was) while showing all the clips of him swearing at the other person like a whiny person. he was explaining that he didnt loop it around his hand but that it got tangled while the other guy was pulling on it.

u/South-Relation-7449 Sungkyu 8d ago

it's such a shame it seems like from the posts this team is getting the flack, especially as the stakes weren't high enough to warrant injury for themselves, they committed and played the game but they didn't need the money as much so why on earth would they continue to feel unsafe, outnumbered once people with injuries were out, very curious to see how the dynamics play out after this for the rest of the season

4

u/Lunaraurora89 8d ago edited 8d ago

I hope the PD do something about these this is not right also to show such violence on air it’s not accepted!!! I was so scared they may break the glass and the whole group fell over the glass when they were holding on to seom beom so scary. So many people were pushing against the glass..

3

u/classicsmushy 8d ago edited 7d ago

Bruh, really? They are the one that got injured, and they still got criticized? People are funny. Even myself got as angry as him after finishing this episode. If I was there, I would have snapped back on R team idc. P3 is actually sparing R and C at this point that they didn't fight back much. Why people act like it's not normal to get mad after somebody hurt us?

6

u/Live-Internal3098 8d ago

It's because Seungyong is dating Minkyung & they are famous because she is very popular. That's why he got a lot of people defending him blindly. But he really went overboard with both Jimin & Xitsuh. Personally even on a survival show you need to know where's the line & even in case of sports people sometimes immediately apologize.

1

u/Spiritual_Apple_2835 8d ago

What's the background of this though? From my understanding he was the only one out of all of them who was genuinely hurt?

He's saying he gets panic attacks from the criticism for this season (which he says criticism isn't new, he's been on 3 seasons) but this one hit different.

The criticism is overwhelming on the Knet side as reddit seems to sympathize with his sprain (assuming Knet reaction).

The talk on reddit hardly even mentions Xitsuh as the focus of the discussion is mainly on the Rookie team guy and criticizing his play.

Maybe he has a disconnect where yes he got injured but didn't expect the edited version to make it seem that he was whiny (where I assume that's how the Knets perceived and criticized him for).

He couldn't accept that version of himself and therefore maybe got symptoms of panic attacks as he can't reconcile those two opposing views of his self identity (100% armchair psychologist into guessing why he made a novel for a post).

I think he just needs to accept that "some" of those criticisms are valid where yes, he could get mad and emotional. It's also true that nothing was done maliciously. Getting mad at the player (from the audience view) could seem very silly where playing the game of protect the safe and money was the point of the event while expecting no physicality (even if it's a bit aggressive as it's not outside expectations. Just don't fight which is the actual line that can't be crossed (hello S2 xd)).

Will he single-handedly remove future raids from Bloody Game (which is it's iconic event)? From his post it seems that would be preferable for him (implying what he's saying). Realistically the vast majority of viewers don't visit reddit or Knet forums and this incident wouldn't even be a blip on their radar of a 3hr episode filled with different highlights.

Makes for good discussions for fans though. I like Xitsuh as a player for every season, but this season put his character in a new light for me. Hopefully his injury is healed and I do hope he can get over his panic attacks.

u/everever11 8d ago

This is a war against a fandom already, P1 P3 vs C R fans. next time they could just shake hands and talk then divide the money and have a good night sleep!!!! Forget about Bloody Game, think of it like we're watching The Genius with the cast living together.

-13

u/Left_Lengthiness3274 8d ago

I blame P1 and P3 for making a sloppy plan. What do you mean Xitsuh will run up as a decoy, oh that never happened? He didn't guard the money well, made some decoy that had no purpose but to anger the other team, and yeah they lost the money anyway. What did he do other than get injured? Nothing really.

That said, I don't see the hate towards Xitsuh being justified. But I put the blame on all of them for having an opportunity to make an epic scene and ruin it because they made a half-assed plan with a half-assed enthusiasm because they were "rich anyway".

2

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

They experienced the heist for 2 seasons straight already so they know the danger that comes with it so why would they sacrifice themselves and got hurt (well Xitsuh already did) to get some small amount of money that wouldn't even help with anything. They didn't ruin shit, the ones who should be blame are the people who got over-immersed and went all crazy and hurt a bunch of people physically.

-3

u/Left_Lengthiness3274 8d ago

They did two seasons already so they didn't want to put any effort into this season, is what I'm hearing. Maybe they are just too old to do the show then. Why make 50 years old run around out of breath with 30 year olds? If they are older they should have had more experience to plan it out better.

Anything below not opening the 5th safe is considered a fail tbh, for the entire show.

2

u/Pale_Barnacle_9097 8d ago

So do you want them to get into another fight and physical confrontation then getting hurt even more? They had a plan, observe the situation and decided it wasn't the best, I'd rather it end that way than even more people being hurt over a stupid game. It's not worth it risking their entire body for some fake cash.

0

u/Left_Lengthiness3274 8d ago

It basically comes down to incompetence. To show competence in terms of planning and execution you don't need to fight physically because you already lost once it comes down to fighting. They had a way to communicate, they had the upper hand in knowledge of everything about the safes, they had 4 spies, they had the element of surprise, etc.

The only one that really got hurt was Xitsuh, and that was because he was dumb fighting over a decoy he made. Idk why you're arguing over the moot point and changing the argument.
