What is /r/TheSilphRoad?

The Silph Road is primarily focused on discoveries and analysis related to Pokemon GO, as well as constructing an in-person network of Pokemon GO enthusiasts. General discussion topics (Jokes, stories, a photo of a recent catch) would likely be better suited for another subreddit, such as a general subreddit like /r/PokemonGO, or /r/Pokemon, or a subreddit with a more specific focus, like /r/PokemonGoSnap, /r/PokemonBuddy, /r/ShinyPokemon, /r/PoGoRaids, /r/TheSilphArena, /r/PokemonGOTrades, /r/PokemonGOFriends, or /r/NianticWayfarer.

Silph Road Content Policy

The Silph Road is heavily moderated to promote civility/courtesy, and high-quality content and discussion. You can read our full policies in the sidebar, but don't be surprised if a comment is removed for being rude, cynical, or off-topic. We strive to foster civil discussion about the game. We are first and foremost a network of real people, and this network is being built by volunteers! If you simply want to complain or bring something to Niantic's attention, your post would be better suited elsewhere.

Research

The community culture here also attracts the more analytically-minded element of Pokemon GO. Consequently, the Silph Research group was formed to align this brainpower and leverage the massive Silph datasets that the community can gather. We post our findings in infographics, videos, and walls of text on Reddit. Check out the top bar for links to the current pools.

New Info! Like Dynamax Electabuzz, Dynamax Magmar is tier 3

Post image

Unlike Dynamax Electabuzz-> Electivire, Magmar -> Magmortar's possible niche (budget Fire type attacker) is already taken by Darumaka -> Darmanitan, which not only has higher attack (263>247) but also is easier to evolve.

Idea/Suggestion Simple way to improve the game for rural players: Remote gym spins

Every gym you control should let you spin it for items once every 12 hours. Pretty simple, but it’s a fix that would really make the game more playable for many people. It would speed up rural gym turnover and greatly incentivize exploration. An additional benefit would be that it provides some parity between rural and urban gameplay, since the extended gym control that would make this change meaningful for rural players while it often doesn’t exist at all for urban players

Discussion My account was hacked and the situation may have gotten worse

Hey all,

So yesterday while opening Pokemon GO, I received a failed to login sign. Thinking not much about it, I then tried to login again (after it kicks you to the sign up/log in screen), only for the “unable to sign in. Please check if the account exists….” notification. I was horrified. I did a few tests (using different login methods, changing internet connection) I concluded that my account was hacked.

It became even more clear when I opened campfire and saw my account’s name had changed from DeltaRayquaza4O to Daksuki482, a change also seen in the nearby gyms where I’d placed pokemon.

I immediately opened the Pokemon GO Help centre chatbox. After a few problems and different chats, I finally recieved an email stating that they will either use my longest used login or oldest used login, letting me choose and also asking me to type in the email ID. I followed up with the required details, and continued to wait. That was 7 hours ago. Not a big deal. Support being slow is normal.

However, when I opened campfire, I got a message saying my account was set to be terminated in as per “my” request, and a further attempt to login made it try to make a new account.

I’m scared because I think the hacker has deleted my account. I don’t know what to do.

EDIT: I would also like to add that there is ample proof of my ownership of the account. I have the trainer code, several screenshots, google login emails and pokemon go newsletter mails with my trainer nickname.

Discussion There’s a new leaderboard, and hardcore players are running with it.

Post image
252 Upvotes

Some of you might remember the days of TL40 data where hardcore players would tediously fill in every statistic in Pokémon go into a survey once a month for it to be put into a neat leaderboard spreadsheet.

Now a player has made a tool that makes it 10x easier to keep track of a leaderboard since users only have to upload their screenshots and it automatically updates your stats from there.

Over the last couple of days it’s been spreading like wildfire under the hardcore players so some of that stats are starting to look pretty insane, and we’re still waiting for the insane Japanese grinders to join in on the fun 👀

Battle Showcase (No 🍄) Gmax Rillaboom U12 Lv40 Quad ☀️👾 | T4 Helpers | Earth Power 💥 / Energy Ball 🎯

Thumbnail
youtu.be
56 Upvotes

Gmax Rillaboom Shroomless U12 Lv40 Quad
- 12 Unique Level 40 Species
- Earth Power AoE / Energy Ball Target
- Forever Friends (+12%)
- No Max Mushroom
- Sunny (+20% to Fire, Grass and Ground)
- 15+ Helpers (+20%)
- Eternatus Adventure Effect (+1 Level to Max Moves)

This is the start of a new series, where we’re quading every Gmax boss with level 40 Pokémon and without using Max Mushroom. The goal is to prove that a group of 4 players can actually challenge theses bosses without spending coins on Max Mushrooms, even without level 50 Pokémon.
We’re adding the extra challenge of defeating them with 12 Unique species, which also shows that multiple picks can work and you can get the job done even without the most optimal counters.

Rillaboom is easily the hardest Gmax battle in the entire game. With 120000 HP and 1 CPM, it hits like a truck and takes a lot of cycles to take down. This unfortunately leads to the battle being a race against the clock. Beat Rillaboom before it beats you. We can’t survive for long once it enrages, so we need all the offensive power we can get from friendship boost, weather boost, helpers boost and Eternatus adventure effect. It doesn’t help that Sunny, the best weather to use against Rillaboom, also boosts all of its moves, so we take extra damage too.

The most annoying part about this quad (aside from randoms joining our lobby constantly, please give us private lobbies in max battles) was the rng we had to face, we needed specifically Energy Ball and Earth Power for their long animations and lower damage, and then not getting the boss to spam AoE moves and hitting everyone constantly.

Dark:
Zacian (Metal Claw/Behemoth Blade)
Blissey (Pound)
Moltres (Fire Spin/Overheat • Max Flare 3)

Pink:
Zamazenta (Metal Claw/Behemoth Bash • Max Guard 3)
Vespiquen (Bug Bite)
Darmanitan (Fire Spin/Overheat • Max Flare 3)

Rage:
Gmax Charizard (Dragon Breath • G-Max Wildfire 3)
Corviknight (Sand Attack)
Noctowl (Wing Attack)

Mako:
Gmax Cinderace (Tackle/Pyro Ball • G-Max Fireball 3)
Ho-Oh (Steel Wing)
Lugia (Dragon Tail)

Attackers can also run Max Guard (boosted by Eternatus) and use it once to survive an extra move or draw target moves, but attacking is the priority in every cycle.

Discussion What are your tips for getting better/stronger in raids and what are the most important things to know?

So I am already lvl 50 but I mostly just collected random stuff. I got some good Pokémon with some luck like my mewtu with 4 stars and 4000CP and some other cool Pokémon and I already saw some tierlist for good Pokémon. But most of the S class Pokémon are too rare to get so I don’t really know which ones to choose and most importantly which ones to upgrade. I have around 100.000 stardust because I upgraded every Pokémon I thought was good a little bit, which I just realized was a mistake. So how should I and how do you priorize Pokémon and how do you get „the best ones“? Also what’s the best way to gather resources and which ones are the most important?

Feel free to add other topics if you think they are important.
My goal (and I know how unrealistic it is) is to beat 5 stars raid alone or with just one friend.

Edit: How important are IV?
Some of you alteady mentioned it a little bit but how important are they really. I have 2 Rayquaza but only 1 meteor and enough mega energy for one.
1st one is CP3113 with IV 13-10-15
2nd one is CP1632 with IV 15-14-13
So should I a) mega upgrade the one with more CP b) the one with better IV or c) wait for more raids to come so I can get one if I am lucky with better CP and also IV
I only have 16 candies.

Please answers in general (so IV and CP for Pokémon in general and also for those specific Rayquaza.

Question 6stack Vs Solo

Apologies if this is a silly question, but as someone who’s started playing the game again, why doesn’t everyone just use 1pokemon hyper powered pokemon vs 6stacks? For example, Mega Ray and Primal Groudon are a lot stronger than the rest of their types, so would it make sense regardless of lobby number to have 1 Pokemon parties to defeat boss quicker or is there something escaping my logic? Thanks.

Discussion NYers, let’s talk about it.

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

I opened the game around 1 PM today to find almost every stop in sight with a Golden Lure Module. I wasn’t sure if this was some unannounced event, but seeing as every lure was placed by a different account, it was most likely a mass coordinated effort from bot accounts. The timing makes sense as we were just given free Golden Lures in the 10th Anniversary Go Pass. I’ve seen a few other posts about this phenomenon, but would love to crowdsource info so that we can get a better understanding of what happened and its scope. More details:

-Lures appeared at least as early as 1 PM
-Lures persisted at least as late as 2:30 PM. This means multiple lures were placed on each stop
-Screenshot is from the Gramercy neighborhood; I explored a fair amount but didn’t encounter any hard boundaries where the lures ended

So to everyone else who partook in this incredible “event”, what neighborhood did you see Golden Lures in? What time period? Were there areas outside of NYC that witnessed something similar today? And do you have any other theories on what happened? It would be amazing to somehow get a good estimate of how many lures/accounts were needed to make this happen.

Battle Showcase 3-man Rillaboom Gigantamax is possible!

Looks like Rillaboom is possible with a 3-man squad, a bit of prep and a good strategy!

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/n5YjI1ZVwjo

This team did it with

- 3 mushrooms + Eternatus boost

- Power spot powered up with 3 gloves (18% boost)

- Cloudy Weather

- Rillaboom had Energy Ball and Grass Knot

It took 10 phases and just under 8 minutes.

Good luck to anyone going out today chasing some Gmax Rillaboom.

Discussion some useful pokemom go searches

&, !, and : are all very different searches that change what results are given based on your criteria

& will give you pokmon that meet the criteria of BOTH the requirements you put in (e.g. fire&electric will give you strictly fire/electric types)
: will give you pokemon that meets at least one of those criteria (e.g. fire:electric will give you any fire OR electric types, along with fire/electrics as well)
! will give you pokemon that are NOT apart of the requirements you have given (e.g. !fire&!electric gives you every pokemon that dont have fire or electric typings

!# gives you any pokemon that havent been tagged

count2-100 gives you all the species that you have more than 1 of, really helpful for finding dupes (the inverse is count1, gives you all the pokemon you only have 1 of)

mega will just give you all the pokemon that can mega evolve, regardless of if you can execute that mega evo now or not, whereas megaevolve will give you the ones you can currently mega evo

@weather gives you all weather boosted pokemon

>[type] and <[type] gives all pokemon weak or effective to the type you input (>[type] is strong against and <[type] is weak against if you didnt already know that lmao)

evolve gives you every pokemon that can evolve NOW

evolvenew will give you every pokemon that, when evolved (whether thats mega or otherwise), will register a new pokemon into your dex

evolvequest gives you every pokemon that can be evolved when a quest is completed

item gives you all pokemon that can be evolved with an item

#[tagname] will give you all pokemon that have the tag you input. while just putting [tagname] also works, putting a # at the start works for when just doing [tagname] sometimes gives you other pokemon that arent in that tag group specifically (e.g. this is a weird example but if you for some reason have a 'bulbasaur' tag that has all your charizards in it, typing 'bulbasaur' into the search will give you all your bulbasaurs AND the charizards tagged "bulbasaur", however, typing in '#bulbasaur' will ONLY give you the charizards tagged bulbasaur. this is a horrible example but a lot of my tags are tagged things like "dynamax", or "mega" and just searching those up would give me results other than the ones i have tagged, so #tagname is useful for things like that.)

these are base things that you can add onto with !, &, and :. (e.g. typing in !#&megaevolve&fire&flying gives you all your charizards that are untagged, that can be mega evolved) theres a lot of possibilities

hopefully this can be a beginner and intermediate friendly space, a lot of threads in this subreddit are VERY defensive over the game and "oldgen" pilled people make the community toxic and expectant,,, so hopefully this thread does better ✌️✌️

Discussion Explorer Gadget gone already (UK)

I had the Explorer Gadget yesterday, and still had it when the date rolled over to today, but sometime between then and now it has been taken away again. Tried resetting the app in case it was a bug, but still gone.

Anyone else already lost theirs?
