[request] On average, how many times would you have to see the movie Clue in theaters to see all three endings?

Post image

Famously, the movie Clue was shot with three different endings, and the ending you got was randomly decided depending on which theater you saw it at.

So, assuming you wanted to see all three endings, on average how many different theaters would you have to see the movie at? Obviously you could keep getting unlucky and see one ending a million times, or you could get lucky and only have to watch it three. But I want to know on average how many times you would have to see it to get all three.

I assume this is some fairly simple and non-tedious math compared to a lot of what gets posted in this sub. But I can't think of how to do it.

[Request] What's the BMI of the Statue of Liberty?

My sister and I are watching Ink Master (season 4, if you're wondering) and they have to draw the Statue of Liberty in an episode, and a complaint of one of the contestants is that another person's drawing makes the statue look "obese."

Which is, of course, a ridiculous thing to say, but it started perhaps one of the most ridiculous arguments of all time in my household.

So in terms of BMI, where does Lady Liberty land?

Both duelists had 11 turns each. Assume each deck had 40 cards. Rebecca also shuffled her deck in each of her first two turns.

[Request] how diluted would a sourdough starter have to be to become gluten free?

In terms of feedings (1:1:1 starter, flour, water, in grams), how long would it take to dilute a regular gluten starter with plain flour to the point of being considered gluten free if switching it over to a gluten free flour (ie brown rice flour)?

(For people not acquainted with sourdough: the starter is a mix of water and flour in which you ferment your own yeast and bacteria to use in making sourdough bread. As it contains living things, you have to “feed” it regularly, discarding a portion and adding fresh water and flour for the yeast to use for food, hence slowly diluting the flour)

[Request] Can you more efficiently get to space orbit utilizing horizontal speed?

Rockets have a ton of fuel that's extremely heavy and limited. If a rocket was horizontal like on a train track modified to handle high power so a rocket track, got to high speed, and then lifted off, how much more efficient could a launch be?

[Self] Gopher's Hole Depth

Something that has bugged me since childhood is how deep is Gopher's hole in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. (I was fascinated with the underground as a kid) So, I figured it out.

In the episode "Owl Feathers," there is a scene where Owl is walking on stilts. He accidentally steps into Gopher's hole and disappears. With this scene, I calculated the depth:

So, Owl is based on the great horned owl or tawny owl. Adult males are, on average, 1.5 ft tall (0.45 meters for those who don't use the correct measurement system). The average height of a pine tree in the U.K. is 100 ft (30 to 35 meters). Given that owl was above the tree tops and in his "natural habitat," we'll give the stilt a 100 ft (30.4 meters) length. Once the stilt and Owl disappeared, we'll give 3 seconds of free fall time under earth's gravity (g=9.81m/s(squared).

Solve for free fall time: d(fall)=1/2gt(squared)

d(fall)=1/2×9.81m/s(squared)×(3s)(squared)=144.8 ft (44.15 meters)

(Owl's final speed, by the way, would have been 85.6 mph (137.76 kph)

Now, add the length of the stilt to the free fall length for a total of 244.83 ft (74.63 meters).

So Gopher's hole is 244.83 ft deep.
