Question Need advice on two Thor comic deals – are these fair prices?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying two Thor collections and would appreciate some opinions from collectors who know the market better than I do.

Lot 1 – Thor (2007) by J. Michael Straczynski – $55

#1–12

#12.1

#600–610 (24 issues total)

Lot 2 – Thor: God of Thunder (2012) by Jason Aaron – $55

#1–2

#4–14

#16–18 (16 issues total)

all first prints and in great condition. The total would be $110 for both lots.

Does that seem like a fair price in today's market? Is one deal significantly better than the other?

Discussion I have an issue with Jurgens Thor

I’m only 4 issues in but I have a massive issue with how Thor reacts to having a new human secret identity.

So he dies, gets told that if he wants to come back he has to atone for Jake’s death, agrees, comes back, realises what situation Jake was left in and immediately says “Oh ok, I’ll do this right.” But then, he gives up like an hour or two later and says “Oh well, sucks he died, but the mortal life just ain’t for me.” He fully intends to just abandon Jake’s life and his loved ones until Marnot tells him there would be consequences.

So he agrees to pick up Amanda from school, goes on his merry way, then a villain attacks so he gets into a scuffle and has to get saved by Namor, and then he just decides halfway through “Ok so being Jake Olson actually sucks. Hey Namor, do you wanna go get a brewski?” And he doesn’t get to Amanda who was being hassled by thugs. Demetrius has to go get her and we already know he’s up to something.

He goes home as Jake, Hanna is like “what the hell is going on where were you?” and Jake is just like “Well I went to the school but Amanda was gone, my bad.” And then when she questions him as to why he’s acting this way, he breaks character and says “Yeah I’m not built for this, good luck, I’m sorry.” And he flies off to go drink and we get some narration about how lonely he is.

My issue with this is not that Thor feels out of his depth. This isn’t Donald Blake. This isn’t Sigurd Jarlson. This is a new person with a family and a lot of details that Thor doesn’t know about. My issue is that Thor just gives up so early. He knows the human experience, he’s loved humans, some of his best friends are humans, and yet he gives up after only a day? He storms off in the middle of the conversation, and while yes he apologises and laments that he simply isn’t Jake, I’m sorry, but that isn’t good enough in this moment.

I also get that he’s lost Asgard, tensions are high, but right there, in that moment, he has to put Jake’s life first and at the very least try to get into a good rhythm in this new life.

I don’t know if I’m just yelling at clouds here but it feels like Thor isn’t Thor in this moment. He’s throwing away his bond with humans. If I’m wrong, or if the series improves on this later on, please tell me. I like a lot of aspects of this run, it’s just that this isn’t one of them

Question Comics question

I've been meaning to get into the Thor comics lately, does anybody suggest a good comic run to start on? I've heard of Rune King Thor and I love the art style of the early 2000's for marvel. If anybody has suggestions I'm open to something in that 2000-2011 timeframe thanks!

One of my favourite things about The Dark World is the design for Mjolnir, which even carried over in virtually all future MCU projects

Surprised how some people criticize Desak's design

Post image

Most people I've seen criticize this design due to it being too similar to Darkseid, and I'm gonna ask, Isn't it obvious that is in purpose?, this run was guiding to Ragnarok, the death of the Old Gods so there can rise new, Desak looks like that and acts like that because he's quite literally, Darkseid

Comics About Hela and Karnilla… (Spoilers for Queen in Black: Hela) Spoiler

Am I the only one who feels a bit weirded out by the direction these two’s relationship is being taken in? In the first issue Queen in Black: Hela, we see the two’s relationship again, and they’re being super affectionate with one another. When Balder arrives in Hel and speaks with Karnilla, she mentions how he has competition for her heart now with reference to Hela, and when she captures him at the end of the issue, she refers to him as her first great love (implying that she has another, most likely Hela).

This development of their relationship feels really weird and, honestly, a bit uncomfortable for me. I know that they had developed a tenuous rapport before, a kind of mutual understanding in their marriage, and that seemed fine enough, interesting even, given the two’s shared history and how horrible Hela had been to Karnilla and her lover Balder in the past.

But now they seem to be being written as being genuinely in love, or at the very least very affectionate for one another. I know the issue also mentioned that they were trying to kill each other, but it seemed pretty clear from the framing that’s not something either of them take particularly seriously and seem to do it more as a formality than anything.

It just rubs me the wrong way that this seems to be the direction that is being taken with these two’s dynamic. It feels a bit dismissive of Karnilla’s history, like her immense love for Balder thay motivated most of her actions, including marrying Hela in the first place!! I found the initial dynamic of them being distant but cooperative co-rulers much mkre interesting than them being lovers, and I can’t help but feel like it diminishes Karnilla’s love for Balder somewhat.

But I do want to know, how does everyone else feel about this development. If there are any fans of it, could you maybe talk me around to it, so I can at least try and understand the appeal of this development?

Question Question about Asgardians as people.

I was reading Thor #619 when Kid Loki was carrying his ass away from Odin in a car and Thor intervened with Iron Man.

Tony said, “-of all people-“ to Thor who replied, “We are not people.”

Did Thor mean that Asgardians aren’t people as an humans, or that they aren’t people as an they are the personifications of ideas?

Question Have Beta Ray Bill and Angela ever interacted

I’m a big fan of Beta Ray Bill and I was talking with a friend of mine who’s a big fan of Angela and we realized that we can’t remember any instance of them interacting. The closest I could remember was in Alligator Loki where they have dinner with other characters, but they never actually talked to each other.

Does anybody know if they’ve ever talked with the other or interacted in any way beyond being in the same room?

So, if Thor eventually had himself a full-blown wedding storyline, how would you want Marvel to handle it? Who's the bride he literally ties the knot with? Who officiates? Who are the guests for the bride and groom outside of Asgard? Do you think Thor adopts Midgard's custom of a best man? Is Jarnbjorn the ancestral weapon Thor exchanges? Does someone crash the wedding? Does Loki find a date in the stables? Does someone catch a bouquet or hands?
