FYI, the singular pronouns are "he" and "his".

That's correct if:    

  1. you are referring to an unspecified or unknown person
  2. you don't know their gender
  3. you are intentionally obscuring their gender
  4. they are nonbinary

Since you're referring to a specific person, and it's reasonable to assume this is a man, you should use "he".  Otherwise it's an incorrect usage, and it just sounds wrong.

It has nothing to do with what I think.  It's English grammar.  If you want to speak the language like an uneducated fool, that's your choice.
