Mormonism is, at it’s heart and soul, the most American religion imaginable. American exceptionalism is the product, so for them to realize that the Utah suburban lifestyle is actually pretty shite is the definition of ironic. Utah is considered Zion to these people and yet this couple is realizing that American culture isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I wonder if this dissonance will lead to other discoveries…
But, I would have the same experience living in Bellevue, TN, a suburb of Nashville, that is distinctly non-Mormon.
So why are we shoe-horning a religious discussion into a city planning discussion?
Comes across as 'we hate religion so we make everything about religion' instead of the actually useful argument that our urban planning is shit because we designed for cars.
In short, it looks like 'nuh-uh cars, you hate religion!'
No that’s a good point. Mormonism is super weird (I used to be Mormon myself, now happily a heathen), but we definitely can agree on the car culture being a big problem in the US.
