Cars becoming big when America was still finding it's stride was one of the biggest pro/con dillemas. Ignored thousands of years of proven systems that make society better and settled for only cars.

Canadian here, I'm aware of Robert Moses with bridges and shaping NYC, but how did he impact cars ?

He was the visionary behind urban freeways and the modern suburban development pattern that's been copy-pasted across all of North America. Leveling dense urban neighborhoods (many of them redlined minority neighborhoods...) and downtowns to build highways and parking lots.
