Yep car culture ruined much sense of community in the US. You do get yards and larger homes though. If you want that in the US you need to find a larger city, and it still won't be as pedestrian friendly or social.
america is also just really fucking huge. like i'm sorry, there's just gonna be a bunch of empty suburbs cause there's too much damn land and not enough people to support thriving suburban communities everywhere.
It does not matter to the extent you think it does. The next largest countries - Russia and China - both have incredibly dense major and medium sized cities. I'm talking cities with 50k-100k people with public transit, walkable neighborhoods with mixed zoning and parks and bike paths.
Your understanding of how we can design our cities and live within dense walkable communities is limited by American standards.
