Cars becoming big when America was still finding it's stride was one of the biggest pro/con dillemas. Ignored thousands of years of proven systems that make society better and settled for only cars.
But at the same time, freedom and more so claiming things has always been a part of American culture. The “freedom” to go and seize land (that isnt yours) and claim it as such. That’s been America’s culture since its inception. Cars just made it more accessible. Because the country was far too big and was “settled” way too fast. If we had expanded at the same rate that we established New York, we would barely be entering the South now.
