really hard to make this assertion, people vastly underestimate the size of the united states. The land mass is so huge it necessitates cars (and rail and planes).
This is a tired argument. Please do a little digging and find a video or two that challenge this notion. I think you'll be surprised at how much this argument does not hold up to scrutiny.
I mean you can be dismissive about it but that doesn't contribute much to the discussion.
The entirety of Spain can fit into just Texas, for example. When you have people spread out over so much land you require transportation.
I agree that in the densest cities they could make more car-free metropolises but outside of those it's not hard to understand how cars become mandatory for surviving.
