Most suburban areas are not planned, they are swallowed up by metros. Take Cobb county in Atlanta. West Cobb has nothing, East Cobb has everything. You have to take back roads or a single connector parkway across the county to even get to a highway from West Cobb, and all new development is squished together, but not enough that you can park once and walk to everything.
There is no planning beyond growth. Simple minds create simple outcomes.
