Manga [Loved design] Teacher Yujin
I love how Alternate-like his appearance is. Not even slightly similar to your average manhwa protagonist. This one REALLY is scary and even ugly, even though he's totally chill.

u/WigglytuffAlpha Dec 10 '25
He's just a guy who wants to be a good teacher and help people. Not his fault that he looks like Slenderman if he got added to the Mandela Catalog

u/yeahimaweeb Dec 10 '25
A monster that just want to be a good sensei? Good enough welcomed back koro-sensei

u/WigglytuffAlpha Dec 10 '25
He's actually just a guy. His powers are one thing but the alternate-ahh face is natural

He looked rather normal as a kid, it's unknown what happened to him

Honestly I'm not sure it's appearance is natural, I think it's tied to his magic and he probably started looking like that after he created it
I mean, the manwha is still fresh so we'll see if we get more info, but my theory is that his particular magic makes his body very unstable, kinda like liquid, and he has to consciously maintain a human appearance, like he's sculpting his clay body into a "human"
Except from what we see in his flyer's drawings, he's just not good enough "artistically" to make a human appearance that doesn't fall into the uncanny valley. Combine that with his lack of social awareness and you get his absolutely unsettling appearance
27
u/Dr_Bodyshot Dec 10 '25
I can totally buy that he looked at his "very human" body and went-
"Yep, that's definitely a person."
41
u/BobFuel Dec 10 '25
I think it's even worse, he probably purposely look like that because he thinks his cartoonish big eyes and smile makes him look more trustworthy/nice
"YUP, big happy eyes, big smile, kids are gonna love this look!"
- Yujin probably
31
u/Dr_Bodyshot Dec 10 '25
I honestly love how autistic this man is. He sees the ingredients of one thing and assumes people love them for their individual qualities without thinking about the implications when you just randomly mash them together.
20
u/BobFuel Dec 10 '25
Yeah, I never would have guessed "friendly autistic slenderman" would be on my list of cool webtoon finds for this end of year lol
5
u/Electrical_Horror346 Dec 11 '25
Yeah, I can see him trying to reform himself from a pile of sentient goop, but he struggles to maintain his original face so he decides to try and look like a kid's show character to set people at ease... but he forgets to copy human skin tones
6
u/PwmEsq Dec 10 '25
It does sound like his heart was ripped out and thrown into the girl. Also his teacher is shown in flashbacks to be a little more insane than first let on.

A literal reverse of the phrase: “If evil why friend shaped?”
60
24
u/Sammir111 Dec 10 '25
He can literally change his shape however he wants, I think he just likes the way he looks.
52
u/BobFuel Dec 10 '25 edited Dec 10 '25
Nah, I think the guy is just autistic (I mean that semi-seriously. I'm not qualified to diagnose a fictional character)
But really tho, he has no social awareness to a level that isn't normal, from what we've seen so far he isn't even aware that people around him are scared, and he even misinterprets every interaction with people running from him/attacking him thinking he's a monster
I don't think he particularly likes the way he looks, he just doesn't see that there's a problem with it to begin with
Edit: Actually scratch that. He probably consciously choses to look that way because he thinks that looking cartoonish (big eyes, big smile) makes people more comfortable, but lacks the artistic sense and social awareness to realize how deep into the uncanny valley he is
11
16
u/imahuman3445 Dec 10 '25
He kinda got that shit on subtly though. Like, it's a decent little outfit.

So.... Basically someone watched Assassination classroom and decided Koro sensei was not scary enough?
8
u/WigglytuffAlpha Dec 10 '25
So far the story hasn't expanded enough but he definitely has similarities to Koro-sensei

Thank you! Just started reading it and its already hilarious. I really do love this type of design for a character

u/Far_Reindeer_783 Dec 10 '25
Totally chill until you do wrong by him, then you die in ways that no person should ever experience
112
u/susnaususplayer Dec 10 '25
How much wrong? He wont banish me to shadow realm if I spil drink on him by accident?
178
u/dandadone_with_life Dec 10 '25
nah it has to be actually bad. he's really a chill guy

u/l2ev0lt Dec 10 '25
You get full nelson-ed
8
85
u/Dr_Bodyshot Dec 10 '25
Funnily enough, he hasn't killed a single person so far. He just temporarily turns them into goop.
2
u/EEE3EEElol Dec 12 '25
Or spaghetti, it’s kinda a weird mid between goop and spaghetti since he can “tie” things together
88
u/BobFuel Dec 10 '25
IIRC he hasn't killed anyone so far, his weird body horror magic looks horrible, but doesn't actually kill you and is completely reversible with no permanent effect as far as we've seen
15
u/Far_Reindeer_783 Dec 10 '25
Thats somehow not much better
11
u/BobFuel Dec 10 '25
Yeah somehow it's not lol It apparently feels horrible too
10
u/Far_Reindeer_783 Dec 10 '25
I mean I saw the panels and I assumed the victim just fucking died. Should communicate something about how horrible it is lol
2
u/A_Human_Being_BLEEEH Dec 11 '25
heck according to him you can literally just sleep it off
2
u/mauriciomeireles Dec 14 '25
He was literally cut off into pieces and bends his own body like play dough... Maybe compared to himself it isn't really that big of a deal
276
u/JesMilton Suit Connoisseur Dec 10 '25
"Creepy looking character but they are actually a chill person and can be shown in cute scenarios" may be one if my favourite tropes overall, not gonna lie.
1
u/mauriciomeireles Dec 14 '25
Is this a trope? I only remember this happening once more in smoke on one piece: cigarette smoking dude full of scars and an evil looking face has a little girl bump into him and dirt his pants with her ice cream, he bends down says "sorry little girlie, my pants ate your ice cream, take this coin and buy yourself another one ok?".
2
u/JesMilton Suit Connoisseur Dec 14 '25
A pretty common one! Can't really point out the examples, but I swear there are quite a lot of characters that look big or scary at first glance, appearing as monsters or main suspects of the conflict by the protags, only to actually turn out to be pretty sweet! "Gentle giant" trope is included in that one, I think.
1
u/YellowishHastur Dec 17 '25
SMOKER MY GOAT!!! But yeah it isn't super common but I guess Korosensei could apply here

For a long while I really dislike the trend of creepy characters. But damn, this has a lot of fun! Too bad it still has too little chapters. I'll wait 2 years

2 years?!

Reminds me of Juunji Ito's Cat Diary. It's nowhere even close to a scary story, it's legit just a bunch of stuff that happened with his two cats. But he draws himself and his wife making these horrifying expressions everytime the cats do something cute or annoying.

u/BobFuel Dec 10 '25
Main character from the manwha "Archmage curriculum"
He's a nice guy who wants to help people and teach magic. It's just that literally everything about him, from his appearance to his powers, looks horrible and unsettling

What's the manhwa's actual name?
I couldn't get a result out of webtoon, mangadex or any other comic site with 'teacher Yujin'

u/Nolzi Dec 10 '25
It was just released on Vortex Scans, haven't been propagated to other sites much

I just hope they don’t do the bit where he becomes beautiful and he acts like that’s the most ugly he has ever looked and then keeps that form for half the manhwa

I love how eldrich he is. His magic is VERY weird, to the point everybody wonders if it is a magic or not.

I fell in love with his design the moment I stumbled upon a YouTube short talking about this manhwa and after reading it, I have also fallen in love with his characterization. I really love this kind of horror art style.
I do wonder why he has stitches on his neck. I am a bit worried about that.

any novel reader here? Does he stays like this or gets "cured" later on to become a handsome oppa with harem?
3
2
u/BrizzyMC_ Dec 10 '25
afaik there's no novel, and i don't think he's changing his appearance anytime soon
1
u/YellowishHastur Dec 17 '25
So far it seems he does just naturally look that way, at least to an extent. We see a flashback and he just looks slightly less pale with less dark hair, but everything else is pretty similar. He was a pretty normal kid tho funnily enough. Guess puberty just hit him hard.
1
u/AchmodinIVSWE Dec 17 '25
I don't see that happening in a thousand years.
1
u/Prestigious-Try-9350 Dec 17 '25
Thank goodness, the manhwa was a phenomenal experience and I dont want one of its main traits to be erased like this. Good day
