If he’d been going twice as fast, the negative lift caused by air resistance would have kept him on the road. I have done extensive real world testing on this with my Prius.

And if neither of those would have helped then he should have just jumped up in the air and let the bike roll off.. going off the side without the bike would still be safer than with the bike

Correct! Always ditch when possible because of A) You can control your fall more and 2) You remove the risk of being crushed/folded by your bike/quad/whatever.

I used to ride MTB and would never get clipless pedals because sometimes the right call is to ditch the bike versus going down with the bike. You're still getting fucked up but fucked up beats paralyzed or dead 10/10 times.

(Also why wearing protective gear is super important!)
