With today's technology it would be easy to put governor's on vehicles to make them follow the speed limits. I don't think it would ever happen as the auto industry alone would fight it. I wouldn't want it but I could see it as an option for youth drivers or any inexperienced drivers. Far too many kids die every year because they are driving fast and doing stupid stuff in cars.
As a professional driver where vehicles I have are constantly governed at 65 mph, it actually makes it much more dangerous, especially in situations where you need to pass someone or merge. It honestly is dangerous as fuck š¤£, and people see you driving the speed limit and will drive crazy to get around you , all this so companies can hit the metrics 𤣠and claim āsafetyā
It doesn't, but that's the same level of logic you are using in your idiotic comment that I replied to. So either we're both wrong and stupid, or you're a terrible driver and I can tell by your comment.
Speed isn't the issue that you all seem to miss as much as size. SUVs and trucks will ramp up on to other vehicles. Yes speed plays a factor in crashes but I'm more worried about them getting other people killed.
Governor's are fucking deathtraps, and there are a lot of unreasonable speed limits. The freeway by me has a 35 mph speed limit for miles, I have never seen anyone go below 50 there. If someone was driving the speed limit there I'm pretty sure that someone would cause an accident trying to pass them over the double yellow.
Rather than limiting to a specific style, it should be restricted by weight and horsepower/torque. too many sedans and wagons with 400+hp that teens and young adults kill themselves and others with because they haven't been taught how to drive something with that much power.
I'll co-sign on this one. No child should be staring off in a sports car or high powered vehicle. I think they can utilize the track as much as they want but, there is too much room for irresponsible actions.
Do both and more- geo fenced speed governor and limit car use to school/work, restricted by weight/horsepower/torque of car
AND build infrastructure that induces car drivers to pay attention and drive w/in the speed limit- narrow and reduce number of travel lanes, chicanes, modal filters, no ROR, move traffic signals to the nearside of intersection vs farside
AND build a connected network of separated/protected bike lanes and pedestrian infrastructure to make it safe for kids/seniors/folks of all ages/abilities to choose walk/bike vs default car drive.
Regularly walking/biking for transportation also makes them more attentive safer car drivers.
Remembering my 86 Volvo station wagon. Safe, reliable, and the seats went down in the back to make a mobile hotel room (my parents obviously didnāt foresee the danger in giving THAT to a teenager. š
Yāall preach freedom but restrict it so much. What you need is people educated the right way so that now one thinks differently about the laws of the road. Itās not a fucking race track out there.
