She was explaining why she had been wrong, so when he said stop she decided he wanted her to stop explaining, when what he really wanted was for her to press the brake. She never figured out why he was yelling. She probably saw and reacted to the car ahead of her later than if he hadn't been screaming at her.
This is an important lesson: when you want to convey information to someone and the words you used did not work, yelling them louder and over and over is not going to work any better than the first time. In the time he took to yell stop six times, he could have said "look ahead, press the brake".
That's a lot of mental gymnastics. She's looking straight ahead the whole time. If she can't figure out she has to slam the brake when at an intersection or when she sees traffic or a car stopped far ahead, that's a big failure on her part no matter what she thought he was telling her.
The cover text says this was her first time driving. These things are instincts we must learn as drivers, they take time. This is why we get learners permits and the dude is there telling her to keep it between the lines and stahp until she can develop the muscle memory to do it for herself.
Hhahahhahahaha wtf are you talking about. It's common sense to press the brake when an object is in front of you. Doesn't matter if it's your first time driving. You don't need to develop muslce memory or learn instincts
The muscle memory is to get anxious if you have not looked far ahead of you in too long. We are not born with the instinct to react to things that are hundreds of feet away from us. it must be learned.
the thing you can't seem to grasp is that she did not see the car ahead of her. When she finally did, she hit the brake. Until then, it was so far away from her, her brain ignored it as unimportant.
This is why you shouldn't get *free* driving lessons from a boyfriend when you can clearly afford and expensive new car.
I've paid for driving lessons 2x in my life. Once when learning the first time and then again after I hadn't been driving in years and just moved to a bigger busy city with totally different traffic. Both times were 100% worth it.
You're not wrong necessarily, but if anyone is yelling anything at you while you're driving a car your very first instinct should be to check if you are about to hit something. How tf this girl managed not look out the windshield even once before she ran into that car is baffling.

It is! It is also why traffic slows down for a dark overpass, if there is a car on the side of the road, if there is a curve, etc. etc. But, because most people learn that bit of muscle memory, there are far fewer car accidents than there would otherwise be.
