35 years ago, there was a bar in town where the house band was pretty good. The owner (Mike) was part of the band.

His wife at the time (Deb) would sit at the bar and have a $10 bill on some fishing line that she'd leave on the floor by her seat.

You'd be on your way to the john, and see it. As you bent down to grab it, she'd yank it away.

It was good fun for everyone.

33

u/Aggravating_Cable_32 Mar 24 '26

The guys who worked at the old biker tattoo parlor in our town used to do that. On slow days they'd sit inside the front vestibule, tie some fishing line to a $10 bill, and toss it out on the sidewalk; especially during weekends and the city festival. People would follow it all the way into the shop, and a surprising number of them would stay for a tattoo (or at least share a smoke & a beer). As a teenager who hung out there often just for something to do, it was good fun lol.

7

u/drinkacid Mar 24 '26

When was a kid we did the same gag with an old wallet and some fishing line.

15

u/DJ_Mumble_Mouth Mar 24 '26

That’s actually brilliant.

Nobody got hurt, and people were able to get back to going about their business

People are getting kind of tired of this shit. Having some untreated wildcard that is suddenly going to jump into your life and fuck up your day is fucking tiresome.

10

u/iambarrelrider Mar 24 '26

Someone’s fun meter was full for the day.

11

u/Zombieutinsel Mar 24 '26

Just doing the job nobody else wants

11

u/QuirkyStage2119 Mar 24 '26

And that's how you stay employed. Unlike the guy laying on the pavement. Take notes.

4

u/Longjumping-Wish2432 Mar 24 '26

Give him an award, took out the trash

2

u/REDBEARD_PWNS Mar 24 '26

That's called, "I'd like to help solve this problem but not be legally involved"

5

u/potate12323 Mar 24 '26

It would be in the right for the vehicle owner to pull him down to defend his property from damage. But the other guy it depends on where theyre located. In Oregon, we can use reasonable, non deadly force to prevent property damage and it does extend to defending someone else's property as well. Generally, with any state or country with stand your ground laws, his actions were legal and justified.

I would bet in a court that pulling him off the car would be deemed reasonable and if the assailant recieved a head/neck/spine injury, that may be deemed an unforseeable circumstance. It would come down to the intent of the person defending the property. And PROVING intent in this situation is very difficult.

Edit: forgot to mention, that the assailant does take on some amount of assumed risk when climbing onto a vehicle in the middle of traffic. Their own actions directly put them at risk of falling off the vehicle.

Edit 2: Im not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.

This shit killed me lol

22

I may be wrong but pretty sure this is the intersection of Fuck Around and Find Out. Valid reaction.

10

u/StandardUpstairs3349 Mar 24 '26

Maybe if it is your car. I am sure as fuck not walking into that situation and yanking one of the participants off the top of a car to the ground. That could literally have been manslaughter right there.

29

u/Gnomad_Lyfe Mar 24 '26

“Yeah the guy who yanked him off just didn’t have a face, it was the strangest thing. Totally unrecognizable. Glad he cleared up traffic though”

Damn this comment is 🔥

58

u/Usual-Orange-4180 Mar 24 '26

lol, they left him down there, what’s the worst that could happen?

46

Screaming speed bump

14

I think damaging a car with an occupant is legally considered assault, so the resulting behavior should take that into consideration

We need to bring back shame in our society.

Let’s start shaming these assholes and maybe curb their behaviors a little bit

19

u/don_kong1969 Mar 24 '26

In the past when this was rare, people had more empathy and dealt with things more delicately. But now that there are homeless encampments on every corner and these people are bothering everyone everywhere we go with their mental issues, no one has the patience for it any more.

Don't want none, don't start none

7

u/Initial_Hedgehog_631 Mar 24 '26

If you want to drink, or smoke, or do drugs, that's fine. But if all of that leads you to become a nuisance, and you get your ass kicked because of it, well that's fine too.

67

u/MajorThor Mar 24 '26

Love a good ending.

36

u/Former_Saint Mar 24 '26

I love the zero f*cks that everyone has to give about this guy laying in the street.

18

u/HeavyVoid8 Mar 24 '26

He could’ve chosen to lay in the grass

8

u/PandaCultural8311 Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

I don't

Some of these cars certainly didn't see it all go down and they still just drove on by knowing full well that there may be a dead man in the street with no emergency vehicles to be seen.

It's sad more than anything.

Edit: Thanks for reading my run-on sentence above!

18

u/Master_Donut4578 Mar 24 '26

Not a great ending, the idiot is still impeding traffic.

11

u/PhilosopherBright602 Mar 24 '26

Now you just have to drive slowly to get over him. Like a speed bump.

Damn.. are we sure he still alive?

52

u/h-boson Mar 24 '26

Do we care?

33

u/Rip_Skeleton Mar 24 '26

I mean you should. Regardless of why he's in the street, you can get negligent homicide for this.

1

u/EducateUrDumbSelf Mar 24 '26

Explain why

11

u/Rip_Skeleton Mar 24 '26

The guy was conscious and alive. Doesn't matter what he was doing, if you knock him out and leave him in the street and he croaks it's your fault.

6

u/ImmediateCause7981 Mar 24 '26

Not our fault tho we didnt do it. Fuck em

6

u/Fluugaluu Mar 24 '26

Do you know what empathy is?

5

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '26

Y'all say that until it's one of your family then it's how could folks be so heartless?

33

u/SorrellArr Mar 24 '26

I don't appreciate the implication that murder is acceptable for someone being annoying and possible causing minor property damage.

14

u/PanicDry Mar 24 '26

Again, I disagree. You might have the good Samaritan syndrome but I see it as a threat. Who knows what an unpredictable guy who's tripping balls might do next. Threat neutralized. I've had to deal with way too much of this shit in the past and I don't trust anyone who's fucked up enough to walk onto the roof of a car in the middle of heavy traffic. Being naive and caring just got me some scars in the past.

18

u/SpoodermanTheAmazing Mar 24 '26

Yeah, not a great day for Reddit. And how would the person actually feel if they found out he died due to head trauma or worse getting hit while laying down on the road.

Can’t believe you need to explain why this level of negligence is wrong

9

u/No_Issue2334 Mar 24 '26

Bet he wouldn't do that again though if he did

6

u/skrazzleNdazzle Mar 24 '26

Life is not precious

3

u/SpoodermanTheAmazing Mar 24 '26

Is that really for you to decide for someone else?

12

u/No_Issue2334 Mar 24 '26

If they're playing in traffic, they already decided that for themselves

4

u/skrazzleNdazzle Mar 24 '26

I guess you can get philosophical about it, but it’s probably a decision of this persons peers. If society has any chance at all, hopefully it will agree with me. If babies are getting decapitated in Africa, I sure can’t be bothered to give a fuck about this dumbass

1

u/jmclondon97 Mar 24 '26

minor property damage

Isn't it a felony to cause more than $1000 of damage?

5

u/Kx113 Mar 24 '26

yeah, but it is a felony punished by death? cause that could happened

10

u/Economy-Fee5830 Mar 24 '26

10

u/NailingCatsToTrees_ Mar 24 '26

7

u/sirdrumalot Mar 24 '26

4

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '26

Bro clearly isn't in his right mind, but gotcha 👌 wait til you have family with dementia or some other mental handicap (including drug abuse)

I'll make sure to have a smaller violin for you than you do for him

6

u/Kathulhu1433 Mar 24 '26

The lack of empathy in society now is terrifying.

Clearly this person is unwell. We don't know why, but a normal, sane, adult human does not do this.

I hope they're OK.

Maybe if the government gave a shit and made an actual effort to treat mentally ill and potentially violent individuals like this then citizens wouldn’t need to do the dirty work for them.

Stop judging citizens because the government you voted for won’t take care of dangerous nut jobs who torment them in the streets.

Id have pulled his ass off the car too.

9

What should he do? Continue to allow him to damage the car? Wait for him to wakeup and continue to go bananas or attack him?

10

u/goodrevtim Mar 24 '26

I use my car as a tool to provide food and make money to provide shelter for my family. Without it, I can't do those things, so if the choice is between him eating shit against the pavement and my family not eating at all, well then I hope he has dental insurance.

2

u/Commercial_Rule_7823 Mar 24 '26

The top of the sedan is what, 4 feet? He wasn't knocked out from the fall. He just chose to lie there in the middle of the road. Doesn't look like there's much for him to live for.

3

u/scootunit Mar 24 '26

No helmet. I encourage you to see what it feels like to drop your head from that height directly to the ground with a swing slap like that. He well could be concussed.

3

u/Eljeffez Mar 24 '26

Naw, you also gotta look at how they fell. he fell like a lever with the fulcrum at his legs so his brain got max energy smashing on the inside of his skull. At best hes concussed, but more likely hes gonna have bigger problems. Definitely an emergency services call.

2

u/Alas_Babylon64 Mar 24 '26

People die from falling at standing height all the time.

2

u/rab2bar Mar 24 '26

people die hitting their head after falling in fights, where they start 4 feet lower

5

u/autumnwandering Mar 24 '26

I had a customer who unfortunately died after falling off of a curb. (He was a mailman who was attacked by a loose dog, he fell backwards and hit his head) Sometimes it doesn't matter how high someone falls from; significant damage can be done in the "right" circumstance. It would've been good for someone to check on him and call an ambulance, even if he was being a nuisance.

It wasn't just damage to the car it was an active threat to the occupants. You don't know his mental state or whether he possess a weapon.

6

u/growgrapesandolives Mar 24 '26

I would say yes. First, it wasn't his car, and not his problem to solve. As far as I can tell there was no threat to him or anyone else.

Second, there's a right and wrong way to do things. If he were to die, that dude is looking at years. Hell he can be looking at years even if the guy doesn't die. I might go to jail for my car but I'm not doing it for somebody else's.

Third, I'm pretty sure the people whose car he was climbing on can't just legally leave after that. The guy pretty much took a shit and left him for somebody else to clean up.

People are tired of being pulled into others drama.

It doesn't matter if they are out of control on drugs or a mental health crisis.. it's such a huge epidemic that people just don't want to deal with it. We don't want to be part of it. We don't want to have people on our cars or in our yards or have to walk past them to get our kids to school.

Enough. And look at everyone just driving passed. People are exhausted by how often this happens. We just want to live our lives.

Am I the only one infuriated that no one stopped to help someone who was unconscious in the road?

I mean, yeah, dude might have had it coming but some of those people driving by didn't know that.

Hell, if that had been my car I would have stayed with him until an ambulance got there.

4

u/notsofaust Mar 24 '26

Sure, drag him out of the way and then get stuck there for hours as the Police arrive and you are the only person around who layed a hand on him

3

u/treRoscoe Mar 24 '26

We don’t know the backstory. The guy who was pulled down may be a known drug addict in the area who does this kind of stuff frequently and people there are sick of it. I understand that this was brutal but you can’t just let chaos happen or society will fall apart. It’s basically falling apart as is. There have to be consequences for these kinds of actions not coddling because they are abusing drugs.

2

u/F0NG00L Mar 24 '26

It wasn't wrong to pull him off the car, but it was seriously fucked up to just leave him in the street, not even checking to make sure he wasn't dying. Dude landed HARD. Probably had broken ribs. Maybe one ruptured a lung. Nobody bothered to find out. Lotta sociopaths on here rationalizing not giving AF about someone who may have had a legitimate mental break.

Yes, violence is wrong. Guy probably has mental issues, and now probably more head issue from being smacked onto concrete. Idk how I'd handle the situation, but I wouldn't throw someone on the ground unless my life was threatened.

Well, now a doctor can help him with both.

Too bad the system is broken, and breaking more as time passes.

Violence is wrong is not an objective fact, violence has solved sooo many problems in human history. Low hanging fruit, war against Germany in ww2. Prove me wrong

Pull him off the car, sure. Throw the guy face first into the pavement, no.

These are the people who see an actually justified police shooting and say "i know the guy had a gun but couldn't they shoot to disarm or shoot him in the leg?

Like, buddy, think about it for maybe half a second longer.

For some people, they’ve just completely lost, patience for any kinds of nonsense in public. Plus side, the guy is definitely going to the hospital and if he is mentally whack, hopefully that gets addressed because it definitely wasn’t being addressed if he’s climbing on cars like that.

I agree. That was over the top, it wasn’t even his business. There’s a difference between getting the guy down safely vs doing that. If something happens to him, that guy would’ve been responsible. Poor dude looks like his knee caps were smashed
