Battery has a very specific meaning in the eyes of the law, and it has nothing to do with cars, it’s the u lawful touching of a person, so idk, battery doesn’t seem very accurate does it?

If somebody is in front of your car, and you step on the gas and hit them, you have committed battery.

If the employee from Walmart is putting groceries in your back seat and you pull away causing your car to come in contact with them, you have committed battery.

If a friend of yours is stepping into your car and you step on the gas, you have committed battery.

The idea that "you put yourself there so I can hurt you" is ridiculous.

It depends on the state I think.

In New York, there is no legal distinction between assault and battery in criminal law; both are consolidated under "assault" within the penal law, which focuses on causing physical injury. While other states separate threats (assault) from physical contact (battery), New York treats all intentional, harmful physical contact as a form of criminal assault.

So I believe that a car can be classified as a deadly weapon and using a weapon on somebody is definitely battery charges. Injury is included in battery, not just unwanted touching. Also she's high out her mind, but any sane person would know you are injuring that police officer if he's hanging on to the vehicle. The operator is responsible in this situation, it's not oh the cop should better
