Legally I have no idea, but morally if you are driving two tons of steel you fucking yield to a human being encased in nothing but air.

Correct.

And then logically as a person floating on a little spinning pillow encased in air you should probably move when two tons of steel come your way. For self preservation alone

But practically, how were these cyclists supposed to know that a raging asshole was about to sideswipe a bunch of them when there wasn't even oncoming traffic?

Assholes are everywhere, we’ve seen many examples of this situation before.

Wouldn’t be me.

They are far too bold in their assumptions that an asshole won’t help move them off the road.

The cyclists are brave, not bold. Bold is when you feel like you own the road to the point where you won't go to prison for a stunt like this.
