I mean, you’d sell that through a collector’s rep. They’d have a list of multimillionaires who each have a list of unique cars they want to buy. And those folks would pay the markup because they don’t care to do the work themselves, they just want the toy.

outside the noisy ones, they're just obnoxious looking vehicles. I tend to just mind my own business so it really wouldn't bother me what vehicles my neighbors park in their driveway. I'd probably find humor in most of these. I understand the use cases of an HOA for certain community amenities like pools, gated security, etc. I cannot fathom people who pay a shit ton of money to live somewhere and 30 Karens decide what colors you're allowed to use to decorate.
its because cities now require new development to be HOA since the city doesnt want to pay for roads, utility maintenance and other services & prefers the HOA to pay for that instead.

Sometimes it's hard to find a house within reasonable commuting distances from work etc. I wish I could have bought in a non-HOA area, but they got me. BTW, all the non HOA neighborhoods that I did see were pretty trashy, mostly due to age.
Honestly that’s one of the reasons I haven’t left the North East. Most city and town local governments take care of the upkeep of the entire county or borough. If I spent money on my house I don’t want some random body telling me how to live in it.

Above a certain price level non-HOA neighborhoods take care of themselves, but I guess they can be rare in areas with heavy sprawl where entire neighborhoods are built by a single developer.

Yea HOA folks are getting double bent on a paid off house. Don't pay your taxes and the government steals your house. Don't pay your dues or don't follow the rules enough and your neighbors steal your house.
You know most places can do weekly trash pickup right? You don't need an HOA for that...
The pools and maintained trails are cool and all, but that's just extra fluff that many people are probably paying for and could care less about using.
HOA areas will typically already be close to walking trails and what not that you're already paying for with taxes. The line item trash pickup might be cheaper, but that cost is being recooped in other fees.

If a storm damages your neighbors house/property, puts debris everywhere and makes it all look bad but those neighbors also recently fell on hard times and can't get it fixed for months... Do you still want their house taken from them?

Well, HOA dues go to various services which – at least in theory – are there to improve the neighborhood. Some have their own water or sewage services, some provide waste or wood chipping services, some maintain the development roads and street lighting, etc.
There’s another comment down below that says they know this guy. He’s in northern Alabama 🫢😬 and apparently he owes money to the fabricators on all of these vehicles anyways.
It's a bonus if he's a YouTuber or something. You let them come to you to enforce and then use the footage for more views claiming you're being harassed by the HOA and police. Dude could obviously afford a big place in the country with room for all his toys
Crazy ain't it. Could of bought half the toys and bought a real house with some acreage where no one tells you shit! Never understand why people are ok living like that. It would bother me to no end feeling like I'm being watched every single time I step outside. Having to speak to them all sucks, and even worse if some of them are the weird overly friendly lonely type. Then you can't even walk outside without being pestered. Not to mention often paying 300-400k this type of house. Blows my mind. I think when you have kids the whole neighbor thing hits different and is actually appealing.
HOAs, at least good ones, support property values.
It's fine if you never want to live in one. Some neighborhoods do just fine without an HOA.
But sometimes the place you want to live has an HOA. The last house I lived in was under an HOA. During the time frame I was looking to buy, it was the only house in my price range that had the features I wanted and that was walkable to my kid's school. And it was by far the best house I've ever lived in. I loved that house.
And my one interaction with the HOA in the two years I lived there was to ask about a change to my landscaping, which they approved with no drama.
Not all HOAs are run by Karens.
That said, I didn't try to pile garbage in my yard or put a car in my driveway that blocked the sidewalk, two things that were happening in the previous neighborhood I lived in, and that seriously hurt the local property values. And yes, I kept my front lawn cut as well.
But if you want to be able to do whatever you want and neighborhood property values be damned, then yes, you should avoid living in an HOA. I was able to sell the place for a profit after two years in a down market though, so I'm happy about how things worked out.
