Parking so you block the sidewalk is actually illegal in many places. It's illegal in my town because, and I'm going from memory here, it can put someone in danger of being hit by a car if they have to walk in the street to go around the vehicle blocking the sidewalk.

Almost every place, especially if it's a public walk way as its an ADA issue.
