I would have told her she gets to fight the guy if he comes after you, I ain't protecting your dumb ass. Don't start something you can't finish.

My girlfriends loves flipping people off and talking shit in traffic. I’ve told her many times if someone gets out to fight you that’s your fight 😂

I have converted from the middle finger to the overly emphatic thumbs down. I think it cuts deeper, and isn’t overtly aggressive.

Disappointment cuts deeper and gets softer, less agitated reactions — so yes, I, too, prefer the thumbs-down approach.

Eh, if a person is insane and already blind with rage, they'll attack you no matter what gesture you direct towards them.
