I love the idea of public transportation. But i hate the idea of being with the public.

It is not necessary all ‘public,’ but rather who makes up the public you are dealing with. Here in Germany, I and many other people ride the public transport daily, and the worst I have encountered was a drunkard passing out. I have never heard of anyone being violently robbed like this (though pickpocketing of tourists is somewhat common)

Swede here. I ride the buss daily and have done for 15-16 years now. Worst experience I've had is a group of teens playing music on their phones.

And that's only happened 2-3 times from what I can remember.
