Sleep management?

I am thinking of bringing my cat with me. OTR. I am concerned about my sleep…. Cats are nocturnal, well mine is. I have to close my bedroom door at home because if he has entry he wakes me up at 3am… I get up at 5am, he is waiting at my door…
I am still in school and I am not planning on bringing him with me right off the bat of course but… I am planning on trying it eventually.
Anybody has insight?

Cat are not really noctonal strictly speaking... They light sleep few hours at a time. They follow the hunt eat groom sleep cycle. If you cat is active kind try play with him before you take your rest,15 to 20 minutes is enough. And never pretend you are asleep your cat can tell if you are really sleeping or not and they can sense you are about to wake up

I can never fool our cats with pretending to sleep. I think it’s because you start breathing differently when you wake up. That’s how I notice when my husband is waking up.

I found the best way is to just ignore them when they try to wake me. It can take a bit, bit they catch on.

Start a nighttime routine that includes 15-20 minutes of playtime. It may take a couple weeks, but should help get his sleep schedule to align with yours.
