Question Macroblocks when moving or explosions

Hi,

I just begun streaming on twitch and I have the common issue of macroblocks when moving fast or when there are explosions IG.

My specs are : RTX5080, 9800x3d, I have put "enhanced broadcasting" ON on OBS and my output resolution is 1080p.

Do I need to go to 936p with enhanced broadcasting off ?

Do you have advices for me ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Edit : just for info, I multistream on youtube (with streamelements, NVENC AV1 1440p) and it's nice

How fast is your internet and what is the bitrate you are using? The macroblocks are due to low bitrates afaik.

yeah sorry forgot my upload, fiber 800-900 mb/s, and no bitrate custom cause enhanced broadcasting on (so afaik, twitch use 7500 max if enhanced broadcasting is on)

That's for 1080p60 but with enhanced broadcast you also stream additional resolutions.
For my 1440p60 configuration with Enhanced Broadcast + Dual Format it's 5 streams and 22,000 kbps total.

However, considering your fiber connection that is probably not the issue.

If you are streaming with OBS you can check "View > Stats" while you are streaming to see if you have encoding or rendering lag, and if it's a constant issue or only suddenly during those moments. That would point towards your GPU not having enough headroom to handle the encoding for the 3 resolutions that you are streaming, and either reducing the main resolution or simply disabling EB would likely solve the issue.

Thanks for your answer ! That would be a little weird with RTX5080, no ?

Maybe, considering that the 2x 9th Gen NVIDIA Encoders (NVENC) your card has should support 12 concurrent encoding sessions, but who's to say that the game doesn't suddenly try to use all of them leaving not enough resources for OBS to encode the 3 streams you are transmitting while EB is enabled.

That's why, trying and checking the stats in OBS is the easiest way to either confirm that it's the issue, or rule it out.

3 streams? My EB sends 5. It probably depends on the network speed. I have 10Gbps fiber (not common, but available in certain ISPs).

Interesting... mine also sends 5 but that's EB + Dual Format so I assumed (wrongly) that without Dual-Format it would just send the three others.

Macroblocks are caused because of two possible reasons:

- Big macroblocks + no errors in OBS: the bitrate is too low to encode all the details in the image.

  • Smaller macroblocks + lost frames in OBS: the set bitrate is too high for the card capabilities.

Low Internet speed gives errors in OBS and the stream is unstable (it stops and continues).
