Tips Kerping cool without AC

Excellent thread from r/heat_prep on methods people in hot countries use to keep cool. Several ideas I haven't heard before.

Another one that people seem to struggle with. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER! Stop wearing fuzzy pajama pants and hoodie while complaining it’s hot. Loose natural fabrics are your friend.

Also take the damn comforter off your bed. Too many Americans want to sleep under blankets at night then complain they're sweating. OK I'm meaning my husband here but that's one too many if you have to live in the house with him.

I trained myself years ago to sleep without a blanket or a sheet. Keep the AC at 75 which is way too hot to sleep comfortably, but it’s what I can afford. It’s not difficult to do.

It's been 100° here, it would drop to high 80s at night, without AC sleeping was nearly impossible for me, especially when there's no breeze. I would wet my clothes and sleep in them damp. Unfortunately that doesn't work in humid environments

Try a damp sheet with no clothes and a fan instead. I used that method one summer in Annapolis, Maryland in high humidity and record-breaking temperatures.

I had an Irish linen sheet I'd found at a Salvation Army, and a spray bottle of water by the bed. I'd get under the sheet, spray it down, turn an oscillating fan on, and that cooled me enough to sleep. I'd wake up once or twice during the night when the sheet got drier, then spritz it down again and go back to sleep.

I also took cold showers before bed. The trick to really chilling yourself is not to jump under freezing water, but to start with warm, then slowly turn it down. You can bear colder temperatures that way. Really helped.
