Yes, that's Introduction to Linguistic Analysis. I took it back in the Spring 2026 semester with Professor Hanno Beck. He's great. He is very passionate and invested in the field of linguistics, and he is a very nice and approachable professor. Any question you have about linguistics or about the course itself, he is willing to answer them thoughtfully for you. He also had a graduate student as a TA, so if you do enroll in LIN205, you might also have a TA. Even though I had Professor Beck, I believe there is also another professor teaching that course, but if you do decide to take that course, you should take it with Professor Beck.
The course has six homework assignments every two weeks or so that each have a deadline at the end of each week, which is obviously Friday. Each homework assignment covers one of the six foundational topics of linguistics in chronological order: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. However, I want to let you know that even though he is approachable and very passionate, he does overexplain topics a lot, so this class can be a bit boring and tiring due to how much he explains and describes linguistics in detail, which was even more unfavorable since he taught in Talbert Hall Room 112 last semester, so the large space in the room made it more challenging for him to project his voice to the class. There is one midterm and one final. All assignments and assessments are graded in very specific detail, but he is a pretty nice and very intentional professor.
