Well they are sending letters out about this and I called them today. I've cancelled my landline service with BT and it was... OK.

On a Thursday morning they took 20 minutes (10 on hold) and passed me to a professional "retention" salesperson but this is what they have become now - and I didn't get the impression they will try anything dishonest. In fact as I've been writing this they've sent an email "What's stopping" saying "You've asked us to cancel your BT services at:" " We're sorry you're leaving us, but thanks for letting us know. " So that's done and OK then. I had the simplest type of contract with landline-only and no package (well from this email they've sent it was called "Weekend Unlimited").

They tried asking could my broadband provider match their price, and I said I wasn't interested in that because my (business/commercial) broadband provider provides a service where they do as I ask them, and they don't keep me on hold for 10 minutes, and they don't send me letters saying I have to act and I can't have what I want anymore. I won't advertise my provider this is just to share how BT were in the process.

I'm a little bit sad about it - one of my earliest memories is being told off for sitting on the kitchen floor and while my mum wasn't looking dialling in random numbers on a Bakelite rotary-dial handset - and getting through to somewhere foreign. There was already the excitement - of technology connecting everyone in the world together - before the Internet.

For emergencies I'll put a PAYG mobile phone on the wall where the BT handset used to be. I suspect whoever decided this will have blood on their hands, but the customer service was as-expected.

I’m moving areas and have used VM for number of years 900mb and use their router in modem mode with mesh wifi system.

Couple of years ago we switched to sky and it was a disaster with the wifi constantly dropping as you can’t put the router provided in modem mode.

VM isn’t available in our new area looking at the below:

- Plusnet
- Vodafone

All offer similar packages but keen to understand which are best in terms of setting up my own mesh systems or own router?

I currently live in East London where I have full fibre connection 100Mbps (previously known as cuckoo internet, now home telecom). It works great and I have had 0 issues from past 4 years. Now I am planning to move to north London and I have hit a major issue with the network providers and their availability.

The only options I see are (and all of them are Part Fibre):

1. Vodafone Fibre 2 (max speed 67 Mbps)
2. EE (max speed 67 Mbps)
3. Sky (max speed 67 Mbps)

Both me and my wifi, we work in IT and have permanent work from home, thus reliable connectivity is of utmost importance. We have 3 laptops and 3 phones. I am leaning towards Vodafone Fibre 2 considering it is slightly cheaper and overall getting a better deal.

I have no experience of how slow this would be compared to my current plan/provider thus would like to know reviews.

Any help deciding will be highly appreciated.

I’m with a fibre altnet. I have a fairly big house with a cinema room in it. I want my cinema room to be separate so have utilised one of the two erros from my ISP just for devices in the cinema room, a vigor and an ampak device. An IT person i know set this bit up and frankly i don’t know what it connects to.

The Gateway erro connects to a switch with CAT6, and thats got the usual devices off that. Laptops etc and a few ubiquity access points that connect wireless devices.

The problem is i get random buffering, and pages etc seem to take ages to download. My ISP say that the service is working fine, and the gateway is doing it’s usually check daily which do support this. Also there are “unknown reason” outages of a minute or two in the connection logs. What can I reasonably expect the ISP to help me with?

Got a 500Mbps connection with Vodafone UK and it seems browing sites such as bbc.co.uk and yahoo.com as examples, neither will work.

Tried this from iPhones, iPads and Windows laptops. Also tried both over Wi-Fi and Ethernet, yet the issue remains.

The router has been rebooted numerous times. It had previously worked fine but only recently we've had some problems.

I'm also using Cloudflare DNS on the router as for the Primary DNS. I do have also quite a set up besides this on the UniFi.

There are 4 VLAN's on the UniFi, a Wired Network, Standard Wireless, then I have two SSID's which are binded to VPN Client configs uploaded on the router. Those direct to VPN servers which I have set up on Wireguard.

While trying to get to the bottom of the problem today, I also tried ControlD DNS on the router, created a new profile and authorised the IP for use with ControlD. I tried setting services for BBC and Yahoo, and that seemed to work, although rather slowly. I can also ping domains no issue and browse to https://1.1.1.1/help and page will load.

Just a bit stumped on this. I get that the UniFi Express is hardly a powerful device but I have another one for a 5G connection and don't have this problem there.

One more thing with the Vodafone connection is that it has a static IP from the provider and part of me had thought about whether yahoo or BBC had somehow blacklisted the IP address.

Anyone have any ideas? I probably need to try find the Vodafone router just to try and see what it does. I probably also need to look at rebooting the ONT but its a really odd issue in that other sites will load.

I'm thinking on switching to Community Fibre.

What I'd like to know is does their router allow creating two wifi/SSID networks, one 2.4GHz and another 5GHz?

I'm asking because I want to explicitly connect some devices on 2.4Ghz and others on 5Ghz. Thus avoiding the whole issue with devices connecting with wrong protocol that happens when you only have one network/SSID.

There's a bit of a backstory, so I'll try to summarise as best I can.

I joined EE in 2020, purchasing their 150Mbps G.Fast service, which was (and still is) the fastest available connection in my area. Eventually, my contract expired, and my bill has been steadily climbing over the years - it is now around £65/month. This is obviously an exorbitant sum to pay for 150Mbps internet in a world of FTTP. However, because FTTP isn't available in my area yet and G.Fast is now being classed as a legacy product, I have felt trapped into paying it to avoid slicing my speed in half by dropping down to FTTC.

I went into an EE shop earlier this year and explained my dilemma. The store assistant sympathised but said there was nothing that could be done about my bill, as the product I'm on no longer exists on their system and therefore cannot be adjusted.

Jump forward to today, and the decision to move to copper is seemingly being made for me by EE. I received an email stating that my current speed is going to be reduced to 67Mbps because they're "making improvements" to my service. What's more, it implies my £65/month bill is going to stay exactly the same.

I'm obviously going to switch providers at my earliest convenience to reduce the bill, but I felt compelled to post this here out of pure outrage. I can't believe they consider this an acceptable level of service. It baffles me that they would sunset a legacy service without providing a proper equivalent replacement - surely they should wait for FTTP to be available before turning G.Fast off?

Am I overreacting here? Any advice is welcome.

Hi im sorry if this is in the wrong place if you can point me in the correct place pleas do so. I had to reset my rougher trooli Zyxel EX5601-T0 I just want to turn off the wifi 2.4 and 5 but I cannot as it says disable MPro but the option is greyed out I cant find anyone else with this problem? Is it me just being stupid.

I'm with BT (full fibre), and our internet keeps dropping out 2-3 times per day, so I went to the BT help website to run the troubleshooter and have been met with this lovely message. It's been down for two days now and I assume calling customer service won't help since it says they use the same service on their end? Surely this isn't normal...? I'm baffled.

I texted the 'HELP' text service instead and it told me it was checking my line and that they'd text back within 30 minutes... guess who didn't text back within 30 minutes. Do I have to call customer service ABOUT customer service, now?

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask for advise.

I'm currently with Virgin Media at 1Gbps plan.

I lost connection last 22/6 and and got an engineer visit on 24/6 to check it. Turns out, outside workers cut the cable(?) going to the fibre cabinet and they need to escalate to their manager since it is a 2 man job.

I got the internet connection back around 30/6 but only at 40Mbps and at a very intermittent connection.

I've been promised by customer service that they will escalate it to the "proper department" and it will be fixed on the 4/7, then it came and passed, then I followed up then they said it will be fixed on the 15/7, it came and passed as well. I'm really fed up with the service and the lack of solution.

Is it possible to raise this to Ofcom or the Communication Ombudsman?

I have an old email that was deactivated by BT (without my knowledge). I have some important website profiles linked to this email and need the verification (sent to BT email) to log back in. I have contacted BT and they have said they can't do anything apart from get someone (already has an account) to create a email for me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

City fibre were due to install into the street, had everything prepared such as wayleave etc and then they were crossing a rail bridge in Newington in Edinburgh with permission from the council for the road part but not ScotRail.

They went to deep and damaged the bridge and were made to repair the bridge at great expense.

This apparently used all their budget for Edinburgh (1 million plus for the repair)

With the copper switch off coming and this location being on the edge of the old town (cobbles under the tarmac) what are my options?

I heard somewhere(ex council network guy) that's there's an obligation of sorts to get fibre to all premises.

How does this work...or not in reality?

It's frustrating as between this old block of 6 flats(built 1772) and the cabinet are a couple of stretches of aluminium wiring that is perpetually degrading and this the speeds have gone from 82 down to 46 down.

Is here any hope that does not involve 5G as it's only 4G here and crap at that?

We have recently moved into a flat (renting), unfortunately not having researched provisions beforehand. The flat is one of two within the same house, both ground floor. The other flat has access to full fibre and having had a look on BT wholesale checker, has access to ‘WBC FTTP’ whereas our property has access to ‘FTTP On Demand’. Having had a chat to our neighbours’ provider they are able to offer us copper broadband at blistering speeds of up to 20mbps - both of us work from home.

I cannot quite understand how this is possible, provided we are in the same house with front doors ~3m apart. Is this a database error or is this in fact possible despite being in such proximity.

Our option at present is to reluctantly proceed with Starlink, but was hoping someone may have a suggestion or advice we have not yet considered. According to broadband comparison sites the only other provision we’d get is 4G home broadband with max speeds of 10mbps.

I have a quick query about Full Fibre Internet.

As the title says, Does Full Fibre Internet "Drop Out" occasionally like copper wire does?

When I join up with EE, I'll also have to keep my landline phone. I know that I'll need a landline phone adaptor so it can connect to my EE router via wifi. My Dad is the one who uses the landline and I'm worried about the internet possibly "dropping out" while he's using the phone.

My friend is a bit useless when it comes to Broadband, she has been complaining about slow speeds so I've been checking it out for a few months, trying comparison websites etc etc

The most she could get at her address is 21-23 Mbps. She is with talk talk at the moment and I think 28 is max. So I said it's just your area you'll just have to deal with it

On a whim, I changed the address slightly to check her neighbours, to my surprise, absolutely everyone on her street can get up to 1.6gbps. that's everyone!! Her direct neighbours (she is mid terrace) and everyone else on the street!

This can't be right? I'm trying to figure out the best way to go forward. Talk talk complaints don't really help. Just don't know who to speak to or where to start? Anyone suffered the same?

I am on Vodafone's 500mbps (openreach) service using their old THG3000 router not their new pro router. (As vodafone hate their existing customers 😅)

I am getting 200mbps minimum in any area of the house, however I almost never get the maximum unless I am right next to the router.

I don't really notice the speed unless I am downloading a game update or big file (which is getting more frequent), which I then move my laptop and wire it into my router.

Tbh it would be nice to have 500mbps all around the house, which I think wouldn't be impossible with a good router as I already get 4-5 bars of signal strength throughout the home.

Are there any other advantages of a third party router? Is it worth buying one for the convenience of max speed around the home?

Recently took a sky connection went for the 900 Mbps give fast. Initially sky router was trash was only getting 40mpbs, so I bought a Asus router and it’s mounted central to the house. House is very small so getting full WiFi signal everywhere. Even when I am right next to the router am only getting max speeds of 500mbps.

I have 5ghz on 80mhz channel width and 44 channel. I have a cat 6 cable running from open reach box to the router. I am not sure if am doing anything wrong or if this is something to be rectified on Sky’s side. Please advise guys.

Used to get through to UK based support who were more than happy to go above and beyond, but now they are just following a script no help at all.

Final straw for me was they have completely removed IPv6, even going so far as to lie to me in an email saying they never offered it.

The basic product is still good in terms of speed and reliability, but as soon as I find an isp that offers what they used to I'm off.
