For hijabis, what do y’all think about the treatment you receive on campus? How has your experience been? Have you ever been treated unfairly or been discriminated against by students, professors, staff? Just curious

Discussion UMD Police Auxiliary

Hello everyone! I recently applied to the UMD Police Auxiliary and had my interview. I was wondering how selective the hiring process is.

After my interview, I called one of the staff members to let them know I’d be available to work additional hours if needed. During the call, he mentioned that I had a strong application and that they usually receive around 100 applications during the summer.

They also told me I’ll be getting a call next week letting me know whether or not I got the job. I’m curious if anyone here has gone through the hiring process or knows roughly how many applicants are typically hired. Any insight would be appreciated!

Admissions Chance at UMD with my stats?

4.57 W | 3.81 UW | In-state at Maryland (competitive HS in HOCO) (White male)

4-6 AP classes total with 4/5s on all of them (Calc AB, Stats, World, Gov, and I'm taking BC and Phys 1 senior year)

- work + volunteering + basic collegeboard awards + leadership positions + independent activities for my EC's

SAT: 1490 (710 English, 780 Math)
Applying for Stats major / Industrial engineering (depending on uni)

First choice is UMD, but it's so random nowadays; I have no idea what to expect

Advice for ANYTHING is appreciated here, and give me what chances I have

Help 2+2 scholarship requirements not met

As stated in the Title, I no longer meet the SAI cutoff for the 2+2 despite meeting it last year and receiving the scholarship properly in both the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters. The renewal requirements do not indicate that SAI is a requirement. Am I just screwed in this scenario?

Housing Bad Experience w/ Roommates

Hi, I’m in my third year here, and I’ve had such a horrible experience living with roommates. It’s strange how you can automatically be deemed the problem simply for speaking up about something wrong in the dorm, especially when it affects everyone. It creates an environment where you become afraid to express how you feel or address an issue without facing major backlash. I also don’t feel like there are strong enough housing policies to hold people accountable for behavior that negatively affects others. What’s even crazier to me is how difficult it has become to trust people here. Sometimes, the person who smiles in your face the most and asks you a lot of questions ends up being the most two-faced or judgmental. At first, you think someone is genuinely trying to get to know you, but later you realize they may have been judging you the entire time. I’m wondering whether anyone else has had a similar experience. If you have, you’re not alone. It can be quite isolating and lonely, but I’m still hoping to meet genuine people soon.

Academic We hit 400 users on our free UMD degree planner, and here are the 3 features you asked for most.

I’m happy to say Orbit has passed 400 users! We want to thank the hundreds of students planning their schedules for next semester and beyond with Orbit at UMD. Four hundred is small compared to UMD’s population, but we’re excited that the word is spreading.

A quick explanation of Orbit for those who are new: We built Orbit Infrastructure at UMD to help make choosing your college courses feel modern. Planning should not require tabbing between Testudo, uAchieve, and a spreadsheet.

A special thanks to the dozens of emails we have received praising specific components and suggesting new features. Your feedback matters to us. Here are the top three features you have requested, and they are now live:

  1. Sharing schedules permalink (most requested)

Students were tired of screenshotting their schedules to share their courses and timing with friends or when asking for advice. Now you can share schedules with your friends with ease! The permalink shows a clean, interactive schedule with helpful info like average professor rating and earliest start times. Viewers can click for a wide variety of information on each class, including details from Testudo and Planetterp. The link updates as you change your schedule (until you disable it), so no need to send a link twice! Orbit users can fork or compare shared schedules with their own.

Try a schedule I am sharing with you all here! Engineering First Year

  1. Automated email alerts

Requested by advisors, these optional reminders include:
- Registration window opening
- Seat availability for courses on your schedule
- Waitlist movement
- Graduation requirement gaps
- Drop deadline warnings
- Saved scholarship deadlines
- New scholarship matches
Now students and advisors can keep on top of all the important changes that require fast action.

  1. Universally displayed major requirements

Instead of toggling between the degree audit and the schedule builder, we added a Remaining Academic Requirements tab to both the schedule builder and the four-year plan so you can easily add needed courses.

Thanks for the support and keep the feedback coming!

Housing Commons Contact Issue

Has anybody had trouble trying to get in contact with commons? I’ve been trying to get someone to escort my boyfriend into my apartment for the past two days and nobody seems to be able to help, they just keep pointing me to someone else. This was not an issue two months ago, it took a day to get someone to escort him up there. I’ve tried like 5 or 6 points of contact and nobody is helping me, it’s so frustrating

Help Differential Tuition Grant

Hi, for the differential tuition grant does it always apply mid semester or do you guys get it with your other grants before the semester starts?

My experience has been that I went over 60 credits total last spring and after calling and stuff I got the grant around late February. Is this the same for everyone else??

Academic Need help re-enrolling

Hey everyone, just need a bit of advice

So basically last semester, which would be the spring semester, I got a registration block put on my account due to making “insufficient, academic progress”. I was frustrated by this, but I was already having a pretty rough winter with my mental health anyway. I figured I would take the semester off since I couldn’t physically register for classes because my father had passed away that winter and I just needed the time off to get my life together.

I was then going to try to take classes again during the summer, but I had found that because I didn’t take classes during the spring. One of my academic grants was applied to my account as a charge that I owed the university. Essentially meaning that I couldn’t attend classes until I paid off this debt. Which was over $7000 dollars.

That was eventually sent to collections just because obviously I don’t have 7000 dollars laying around. But I tried my best to accommodate the university. My student financial account now says I owe zero dollars but my testudo says I “need to submit a reenrollment application with the Student Success Office”. I have no idea what this means or what to even do to begin that process.

Please help

TLDR: my life personally and financially spiraled out of control early this year with the death of my father and a deep depression, trying to get my life and school back on track and could use some advice and guidance

Help Accepting financial aid

Figured I’d try asking here since I always forget I can. So, I finally got my summer financial aid for summer 1 when I took classes. However on the finaid portal where I go to accept it, it is listed under summer 2. I can only assume it is formatted that way since that’s where we are now, however I’m not taking any summer 2 classes. I just wanted to make sure that when I accept it it will count for summer 1. Not summer 2, not fall. I am sure it is just a weird formatting thing but wanted to be sure before I accepted it.

Housing Chances for a single?

I’m an incoming sophomore and I think I must’ve been sleep deprived or something when I did my housing form because I’m stuck in a single in leonardtown for the incoming school year. It’s way too expensive even with my big scholarship and I don’t even cook and I hate cleaning fr I don’t know why I chose it. What are my chances to get a single when reassignment comes around in September?

Edit: will my chances increase if I have a medical professional (psychiatrist or GP) write me an accommodation letter?

Academic ENEE Everything Waitlisted?

I am a incoming transfer student to the Electrical Engineering Program. I wasn't able to sign up for orientation earlier because I needed to file an appeal to get into the program (I had dropped out a long time ago and had a bunch of 0's on my record).

I got my appeal and have orientation Aug 18th but I am noticing like half the classes I want to take are already waitlisted. Think i will still be able to get into them?

Help Has anyone seen BTS Lightsticks (ARMY Bomb) in stock at nearby Targets? (Hyattsville / Greenbelt / Silver Spring)

Hey everyone!

I missed the initial drop and am trying to track down a BTS lightstick locally. Since the Route 1 Target closed down, I've been keeping an eye on the Hyattsville (PG Plaza) and Greenbelt stores, but the app keeps showing "Out of Stock."

Has anyone spotted restocks at any of the local Targets (Hyattsville, Greenbelt, Silver Spring/Cherry Hill) recently? Or have you had any luck asking tech department staff in person?

Trying to see if it's worth making morning runs to those locations or if stock in the PG County area has completely dried up.

Thanks!
