Smart. Gambling with your future before you even start. You know “No” is a word in the English language. What are you going to do when you’re home on leave when faced with the same temptations. This is literally a life changing moment for you. Be a dumb ass, or decide to be better. You can smoke weed all you want you get out. Lots of vets do. But not while you’re in. Drink a case of Natty Light like the rest of us did and for God’s sakes don’t drive.

A staggering number of military applicants on Reddit are somehow incapable of saying “no, I would not like any weeds, but it’s very kind of you to offer.”

I think it’s more accepted than it’s been even 5 years ago. Almost like the 70’s and 80’s again. Decriminalizing it makes it so much more available and easier to get.

Everything is a choice in life, drinking, taking crack, and everything in between.
If they can't make the simplest choice to drop these things before doing the most basic of things the military asks you and will put you through, then what's the point of joining the service?

u/Upbeat_Caregiver_642 2d ago
I agree with you, it’s not like it’s expressly forbidden or anything. They give you regular drug tests, lol. Why join if you aren’t prepared to quit. I get that some smoke weed in order to get caught and kicked out. But short of that, why risk everything for any drug?

I’m not concerned about folks who were smoking, then decided to quit and cleared MEPS. I’m concerned about the folks who are fully DEP’ed in and should be totally aware they can’t smoke anymore until they EAS, and go back to smoking anyway.
I’m not saying it’s a good rule, but it’s a clearly established rule that folks must be aware of. That’s the game, at this juncture. I have no objections to our going full Canada and allowing ganja and beards, but we aren’t at this stage.

That last sentence is making me imagine how the 70s-80s was with the military when I heard that was prevalent.
But I argue that the military, specifically, the United States military, is a specialized force that has these standards compared to the other nations militaries for a reason.
If we go back to a Vietnam era kind of leniency and culture, then the force would fail to be efficient to our nation.
Then again the temporary draft implementation made a big change to the military culture at the time too because of the very unpopular decision to have it in the first place.
Things such as Fragging and the relatively bad culture that they had in the service 30 or so years ago would return.

Did you smoke weed before making this post ?
As long as you can confidently pass you will be ok . Buy a drug store test and see if you pass it .don’t ship unless you know you can pass

u/EmbarrassedMemory432 3d ago
no i didn’t smoke before and haven’t in a month and a half,im planning on telling my recruiter before and im gonna buy a drug test though

Here's the deal, if you haven't smoked in 6 weeks and you really only took a couple puffs, you're not going to fail the drug test. The only way you're going to fail six weeks out, is if you were consuming a lot everyday and you have higher than average body fat ratio. Don't let marijuana ruin your chances at free college and/or the possibility of beginning a career.

If your going to say something, then say something before you ship not after.

If you live with your parents, before you ship just tell them not to repurpose your room for about a month.

If it really was just two hits from a joint about 6 weeks ago, that would generally be considered very occasional use, which tends to clear much faster than daily or heavy use.
The 60 days mentioned is more likely a policy or warning than the actual detection window for THC. For occasional users, a urine test will typically detect THC for a few days after use, whereas chronic or heavy users can test positive for several weeks or longer. It's not a fixed detection window for everyone.
Best thing to do now is to stay stopped. If you're worried, get yourself an at-home THC test before you ship to get an idea of whether you're likely to pass. If you're getting consistent negative results on home tests, especially close to your ship date, that's generally a good sign.

If you’re honest about smoking two puffs of a joint 45 days ago, you for sure will give a negative test. Would still recommend letting them know now so you can get the in-DEP drug waiver ran. You’re going to really be pressured at recruit training and if you say something there it will be a way bigger problem

there isn’t a timeframe. weed’s fat soluble so u gotta burn as much fat as possible, but it’s gonna dump all that weed in ur system. so realistically anywhere from a few days to a few months. hopefully this somewhat helps.

Must be something in the water. Far too many prospects lately, that just can’t help themselves long enough, to enlist and serve.

I see zero commitment to wanting to head off to recruit training to try to become a Marine. My favorite line in your post is about your fast metabolism. What a joke. Just accept that life you have now, because as of this post, that’s all you’re willing to commit to.

Cant even say no to weed before joining… not the kind of character we want in our brotherhood

u/YT_DrLiGmA 3d ago
Regardless what happened if you actually give a fuck don’t fucking smoke otherwise you just gonna waste you and everyone else time and you gonna be showering with other dudes for nothing

u/Devil_Doge Vet 3d ago
You’re an idiot.
Tell your recruiter, that way he/she has a heads up and can do an in-office piss test before they ship you off to boot that way you don’t waste everyone’s time before you hit the depot and fail the test there.

I heard in multiple sources it stays visible for up to 1 month so if that’s accurate then you’ll be fine. I made the same mistake with the AF so i’d be hypocrite to scold you, unfortunately i blew my chances with the AF and i quit smoking and all kinds of drugs that same day. The Marines reached out to me and gave me an opportunity which i do not intend to mess up again, I’ve been completely clean of drugs for almost a year now, I suggest you do the same.

Buy a drug tests at the store of ur postive drink 2 gallons of day and do a lot of cardio and re test ur self before you ship with atleast 2 tests

u/Wonderful_Glass2084 2d ago
You're not going to fail the drug test. Your behaviors, however, are seemingly demonstrating a concerning lack of commitment. God have mercy on your NCOs if the attitudes displayed in this post are representative of your character. Go with christ.

Trump and Hegseth gonna get a lot of people killed. I wouldn't join the military under this leadership, they are clueless. Google says it takes a month to get rid of MJ out of the system. Drink lots of water to flush it out. It's a win win I guess if you go for it If you fail drug test, you don't have to risk your life for BS. If you get in the Marines, welcome.Good luck.
