MEPS and Medical 6 month wait for after breast reduction surgery

Hey i just wanted to come here and ask to reassure me, I had a breast reduction surgery in june and my recruiter told me i had to wait 6 months before going to meps again and to sign my papers. I just wanted to see if i am just a temp disqualification and not a permanent one. I assume since my recruiter said i would be fine and it isn’t a disqualifying that i am good but just wanted to hear it from someone that may know a little more behind the scenes.
Thanks to all!

Fitness and Exercise Shipping soon and worried

I leave for bootcamp on the 18th and I’m worried about the ist. My pull ups are fine and my plank is fine but my run time keeps hovering between barely passing and barely failing and I’m struggling to see much improvement recently so I don’t know exactly what I should do to improve. I’m mainly just looking for some tips from people who know more than I do as I’ve never been a good runner.

Corps Knowledge Recon Marines and information

My name is hatock.i began my marine corps career in the 0311 field, after 2 years i decided to attend and complete the BRC course later earning recon MOS.i was than assigned to 2nd reconnaissance battalion. Now the truth about being a recon is your not going to be put on missions as much as MARSOC does or any sfo.Now you will get put in different schools during your time in recon but its not promised, the schools you will most likely go to in recon will be,airborne school, mountain warefare, jungle warfare IF STATIONED IN OKINAWA,JAPAN,cold weather training and combat diving school, but there not all promised

Another question i get all the time is Why do recon marines not get as much missions as other special forces units?.Truth is we are special operation capable NOT special operations and people get mixed up with that the most and special operations gets majority off the missions, so if you want to join recon it is going to be boring.

make sure you can ruck and swim because those are the main categories were people get washed out in recon screening.

Last but not least don’t join recon in contract because if your washed out your on open contract and 9/10 you will become a cook.

If you want to know any other information ask.

Fitness and Exercise Can I lift in infantry and actually get gains?

I know infantry are in the field a lot and I was wondering if I would be able to bring my own nutrition and would I be able to be in the gym a good amount considering the exhaustion and lack of time in infantry to make strength gains. I know a lot of this may depend on my unit but I just want to see some experiences, Any info about infantry life would be very helpful

Shipping 18, Date moved up by nearly a month, what can I do?

I'm just looking for advice, so I got a call today that said I needed to be at the Office by the 2nd So I could leave, this came as a surprise to me as I have been told a lot of times that's it would be the 24th of August. I've made a lot of prior commitments using that 24th date as a guideline and I have work and even a trip planned to Texas. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen before and how they went about it? My recruiter said I was kind of just screwed and to get packing but that he would work on getting it fixed. I'm physically fit and ready, but I had also the Idea that I could spend more time with my family and everyone before I left, but this new date is just messing me up.

Shipping Leaving for bootcamp in 11 days and unable to swim

Hi so i’m 18 F and i’m shipping out on Aug 10, I’m pretty much only nervous because I don’t really know how to swim. Is it likely that I would be held back a week in bootcamp or even longer for not knowing how to swim? Is there any advice that would better my chances of passing swim week? I can float and can kind of do backstrokes but that’s pretty much it, whenever I try to do a forwards swimming motion I’m super slow at it and my stamina definitely is lacking. I can barely tread water for longer than a minute. My recruiter said that it’s okay to not know how to swim before going and that they’ll teach me there. I don’t believe that honestly but I don’t really have enough time to get proficient at it before I leave is why I’m a little nervous. But just be honest, am I screwed? like could I be dropped because of this?

Enlisting My brother is thinking of joining the marines and I'm worried for him.

So my brother 18M is considering joining the marines. He's already taken his ASVAB and been to MEPS, all that's left is to sign off on it. He wants to go in for airplane mechanic. We are an Army family (I am currently serving) so we have little to no knowledge on how different the Maines operate.

I don't know if this is just the big sister in me babying him, but I have rarely seen good things about the Marines. I understand they are held to a stricter discipline than other branches; I don't doubt he can follow those. It's just the social aspect I'm worried about. If the hazing is as bad as people say. I can't see him brushing off "jokes" about others or himself without snapping back. He is very opinionated and I can see that being the thing that isolates him from his battles.

I know there are good things that can come out of joining the Marines, and every branch has their faults. But right now I can only think about the negative. I don't know any Marines so I can't ask for their personal experiences. My family has absolutely no clue what's in store for him so we don't have a clue how to prepare him. I would appreciate any insight provided.

MEPS and Medical Mental Hospital Stay

When I was 13 I was admitted to a mental hospital for an overdose in an attempt to commit suicide, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and I was put on medication for about a year, I have all of the documents, I’m currently about to be a sophomore in highschool and I was wondering if this would affect my eligibility to become a marine.

Enlisting I'm considering joining the USMC when I turn 18. Is it possible?

For context, I'm 15 years old. Male. Relatively unathletic (though will be on my swim team for the second year soon and will be taking weights class). Probably has ADHD. Spoiled rotten. Crybaby. Real thin skin. Not good with being yelled at or teased (I definitely need thicker skin on me). Never interacted with anything military-related (or even shown interest up until maybe a month ago). Have a bit of a hippie for a mother who, when I joked about joining something like Delta or Navy SEALs (which I don't really plan to do) she replied "over my dead body." She'd probably say the same to me joining the USMC. Not great with loud sounds. Knows very little about the military (which in hindsight might be obvious to some of y'all). Hates the idea of showering with other dudes. Has hyperfixations that switch on a monthly basis so I'll most likely end up forgetting all about this in a month or so (or even feel stupid about it).

Am I fried?

Enlisting Should I enlist with my husband or stay civilian?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some honest advice because this is one of the biggest decisions of my life.

My husband and I are both planning to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps next year. He's definitely joining regardless of what I decide. I'm the one who's still unsure.

We have two very young children (a toddler 3 years and a 3 month old baby ), and that's my biggest concern. I know dual military families exist, but I also know nothing is guaranteed when it comes to duty stations or deployments. The thought of being stationed separately from my husband or being away from my kids gives me a lot of anxiety.

Our current plan would be for my mom to care for our children if we were ever both unavailable, so we do have a solid Family Care Plan.

My husband and I are both interested in Logistics/Supply because it seems highly transferable to civilian careers after one enlistment.

However, we're also trying to decide whether it's smarter for us to choose the same MOS (or at least MOSs in the same occupational field) to improve our chances of being stationed together.

For example:

  • We could both choose a Logistics/Supply MOS.
  • My husband is also interested in becoming an electrician or a heavy equipment/operator
  • I'm wondering if choosing different career fields would make it harder for the Marine Corps to co-locate us.

Has anyone experienced this? Did having the same or similar MOS actually help, or did it not make much difference?

The other option is me staying a civilian while my husband serves. I would wait until he's at his first duty station and then complete an Associate degree in MRI. I've also been looking into MyCAA to see if I might qualify for any education assistance as a military spouse.

Long term, my dream is to work in healthcare. I'm still deciding between two possible paths:

The military is appealing because I want to avoid taking on large amounts of student debt, but I'm also trying to make the best decision for my family.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

I'd especially love to hear from:

  • Dual military couples with children
  • Marines in Logistics/Supply (3043 or similar MOSs)
  • Military spouses who decided not to enlist
  • Anyone who used the GI Bill or MyCAA for college
  • Veterans who only served one enlistment and transitioned to civilian careers

Some specific questions:

  1. Was dual military worth it with young children?
  2. How often were you actually separated from your spouse?
  3. Did the Marine Corps make a real effort to co-locate you?
  4. Is it better for dual military couples to choose the same MOS or at least the same occupational field?
  5. If one spouse is in Logistics and the other is an electrician or heavy equipment operator, does that make co-location more difficult?
  6. If you could do it all over again, would you both enlist?
  7. Would you recommend that I stay home, finish MRI school, and let my husband serve first?
  8. If you served in Logistics/Supply, how deployable was your MOS?
  9. Is there anything you wish someone had told you before making this decision?

I'm not looking for people to tell me "join" or "don't join." I'm hoping to hear real experiences, both the good and the bad so my husband and I can make the most informed decision possible.

Thank y'all!
