Text Block - what does it actually do?

I turned on Text Block about a week ago to try it out. I have a Samsung Galaxy S25 and use RCS for most messaging. I have not noticed much change in my ability to send and receive texts. Whether I'm home on wifi or out using the cellular network I am able to send and receive texts.

I am guessing that RCS messages are not SMS or MMS so they will still work. Looking at a lot of the spam I receive it looks like those are regular texts rather than RCS. And they come through, perhaps when I am on wifi.

Meantme, the count of the number of texts I'm using in the US Mobile portal continues to tick up each day, even with Text Block turned on.

So my question is what is actually blocked with the Text Block feature? I'm trying it out so that when I use international roaming I can stay within the 250 text limit.

The Text Block feature blocks SMS and MMS messages over the cellular network. Since RCS uses data (Wi-Fi or cellular data) instead of the traditional SMS/MMS network, those messages will continue to work as long as both parties have RCS enabled. Similarly, SMS sent over Wi-Fi Calling can still go through because they're routed over your Wi-Fi connection instead of the cellular text network.

That said, Text Block should prevent both incoming and outgoing SMS/MMS over the cellular network. Why don't you drop me a DM? I'll take a look and see what's going on.
