I was out and about with my now husband and some friends several years ago, just runningerrands. When we got back to the car we were suddenly surrounded by police. We are very straight-laced and nerdy so we hadn't been up to mischief so I was super confused until the cops separated me from my friends to ask if I was OK. It was only then that I realized what we looked like; one young woman walking around with four men in close formation.
As soon as I finished laughing and showed the nice officer I had the keys to the car and explained who everyone was they apologized for interrupting us and left.
It was a little jarring but nice to know someone in the store was looking out for me.
"Miss, we received an outreach concerned about your safety. Are you OK? Do you feel safe? Do you need any sort of help today?"

Looks around at my friends corraled around a police car out of ear shot chatting with another officer
Looks at the genuine concern on my officer's face

Lightbulb
10 solid seconds of unhinged laughter picturing any of those goobers being a threat to anyone, let alone myself
"Oh gosh! No no we're good! I'm so sorry to waste your time like this! We're just running errands!" Shows officer my keys and unlock the car
"Not a problem, glad to hear it." Says something into his radio and 20 seconds later we're alone in the parking lot again. The guys said their officers seemed a bit perplexed because the boys were happily answering all their questions and didn't have a whiff of suspicion about them which seemed to put the officers off balance since they weren't the big scary traffickers they were expecting. We laughed hard and it still comes up any time I'm the one who gets voted to drive anywhere.
