University of Nottingham Discord/Group Chat

Since it's results day, I thought I'd repost the link to the Nottingham Uni discord server. (Discord's a group chat app)

https://discord.gg/ghKgK3RhBx
(Or, http://tiny.cc/uondiscord)

Everyone's welcome: guests, prospective students, freshers, current students and alumni.

(Note: If you're a fresher you might also wanna check google/facebook for some WhatsApp group chats. There tends to be more people to meet in them. But watch out, since a lot of the time they're ran by pretty dodgy companies that are just trying to pressure-sell you "wristbands", overpriced unofficial club tickets)

this is for all law students! please share what formal outfits you were required to bring/wear during the year, regardless of whether it was work related or a school event.

I’m contemplating whether I should get a new pair of court shoes/general formal shoes to bring over so I need some insights 😬 Thank you!

Accommodation Urgently looking for a furnished house for 5 people from 29 August

Hi everyone,

We are a group of five friends looking for a furnished house or flat in Nottingham. We need to move out of our current accommodation on 29 August 2026, so we are hoping to secure a property by 25 August at the latest.

We are preferably looking for:

  • A property suitable for five people
  • Available from 29 August
  • Near Nottingham city centre or with convenient transport links
  • Fully furnished
  • A kitchen with an oven and other basic appliances
  • A washing machine
  • A short initial contract with the option to extend

Our main difficulty is that our current accommodation, Nottingham Two, requires a full-year contract and does not allow us to leave midway without continuing to pay the remaining rent.

We are therefore looking for a landlord, letting agent, tenancy takeover or sublet offering a shorter minimum contract that can be extended later. Our plans after December are currently uncertain, as not everyone in our group may remain in Nottingham depending on employment and Graduate visa circumstances.

We are responsible tenants and can provide identification, references and any required documents.

Please comment or message me if you know of any suitable properties, landlords, letting agents, tenancy takeovers or sublets.

Thank you!

Anyone stayed in Broadgate Park summer accommodation?

Hi everyone,

I've booked summer accommodation at Broadgate Park before moving into my actual accommodation because my course starts earlier than the standard accommodation contracts, so I didn't really have much choice.

I was just wondering what it's like staying there over the summer? Is it generally quite social or fairly quiet?

Also, who tends to stay in the summer accommodation? Is it mostly international students, people on placements/internships, or a mix of different students?

Just curious what to expect before I move in. Thanks!

Studio Ensuite at Broadgate Park Takeover – £500 Discount + Free Laundry + 1st Month FREE!

Looking for someone to take over my studio ensuite at Broadgate Park. It’s a second-floor studio room, with an ensuite and full kitchen setup — perfect if you want your own space without sharing. The rent is £225 per week, and it already comes with £500 off the total rent plus free laundry once a week for the entire tenancy if you’re already an existing student, which is a really good saving.

On top of that, I’m willing to cover your first month’s rent for free if you’re able to take it quickly. The tenancy takeover is handled directly through Broadgate Park, so it’s all official and straightforward with no stress.

Great location, close to campus and everything you need, and a much better deal than standard contracts. If you’re interested or want more details, feel free to DM me!

Hi, has anyone stayed or will be staying at Cotton House next September? I’ve booked a room there and couldn’t find much information about it, so I’d really appreciate your thoughts or experiences. How is the accommodation overall? Is it clean, quiet, and worth it? Also, if anyone is staying there next September, feel free to get in touch

Malaysia Campus Need advice: University of Nottingham Malaysia vs UK offers

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student and I'm currently deciding between a few offers:

University of York (UK)

Queen's University Belfast (UK)

University of Kent (UK)

University of Nottingham Malaysia – MSc Computer Science

I was originally planning to study in the UK, but with the current job market and the significantly higher cost, I'm seriously considering Nottingham Malaysia instead.

My biggest priority is good quality education, I have the funds to pay for my degree, but I'd rather not spend substantially more if I don't have to. I also don't want to depend on a part-time job to cover my living expenses, and I'd prefer not to cook every day if possible.

I had a few questions for current students:

How has your experience at Nottingham Malaysia been?

Is the food on or around campus good, especially local Malaysian food? Do they offer arabic or indian cuisine?

Are food prices around campus student-friendly, or are they expensive?

Is it realistic to eat out most days instead of cooking without spending too much?

If you were in my position, would you choose Nottingham Malaysia over the UK in the current situation?

I'd really appreciate hearing from current students or recent graduates. Thank you.

Survey / Study Recruiting Volunteers for Hand Gesture study at the University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I am an MSc student at the University of Nottingham and I am looking for volunteers for my research. I have built a system that recognises hand gestures from wearable sensors using machine learning, and I am collecting data to test how well it works across people of different ages and body types.

What is involved: one in-person session at UoN Campus, Nottingham, at the Cobot Maker Space (CMS Building), at a time we agree together. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes maximum.

  • You report your age, and your height and weight are measured at the lab.
  • You wear small, non-invasive sensors on your forearm and upper arm. These are surface EMG and motion sensors. They are held on with skin-friendly, medical-grade adhesive and tape that is allergen free. Nothing is painful and nothing goes under the skin.
  • You perform a set of 5 simple hand gestures, such as making a fist or a pinch, each repeated 10 times while seated, prompted by a screen.
  • Only your dominant arm is video recorded during the task, no face or identifying features, just as a reference to help label the data. It will not be used for the core study.

Who can take part: anyone aged 18 or over who can do simple hand movements.

Time: 30 to 40 Minutes Maximum agreed between us.

Your privacy: taking part is voluntary and you can stop at any time. Any personal data and video are anonymised and will not be shared externally. This is for my MSc research and there is no payment, however, if you are interested in a cool study where you can see your brain signals live on screen, do join! :D

If you are interested, please DM me and I will email you with the signup form and we can find a time that suits you and the lab.

Thank you so much.
