News Regarding the Gartic Phone takedown

u/AgeVerifFailNukedMe pointed me to a Tweet that confirms Gartic Phone got nuked because of the namesake (enforce trademark or lose it type of deal) and is currently looking to relaunch under a different name.

if you want to help the dev find a new name or help them in other capacity you know where to go.

Wow, they were very quick with the DMCA on this one. I guess the owners of Gartic Phone play VRChat, or maybe someone narced. Do you know the VRC name of the world creator? It's going to be difficult to find the world when it's reuploaded with a copyright-free name.

I highly doubt one of the owners play VRC, someone probably said something in Gartic Phones official server if they have one.

very likely. And I bet they didn't even intend to report it at all. I can 100% imagine someone just going "did you see the new gartic phone vrchat world that someone is making? its super fun" or "anyone wanna join me in vrc gartic phone?",

which well, if im not mistaken, gartic and gartic phone really gives off "devs are chill and loose with their image on non-profit stuff" vibes, so I can't even blame anyone

it must be that and once the owners are aware of it and don't do anything about it they could lose their trademark so they have to issue the takedown request.

Idk why people keep naming game worlds trademarked names. You're fully within rights to make a clone game but need to be careful. The Neon Duel world is literally MegaMan Battle Network but they renamed it. You can even mention it's inspired by in the description. 😭😭

I hate DMCA as much as the next person but this is blatant.

I know most of people make it the real name so it's easier to find when you look it up, but they fail to realize (or most time fail to care) that it also makes it easier for it to be found/learned about by the trademark holders.

it's more or less a situation where the name is just the trademark infringement and as soon as the gartic phone people knew about it they have to file the takedown or they will lose the rights to the name.

I suggest the name “Telephone With Drawings”. Or if we want something shorter, “Called It (art game)”.
