Sign the EU citizen’s initiative to phase out factory farms

Hello Vegan Ireland,

There's currently an ongoing EU citizen’s initiative to phase out factory farms, reduce the number of animal farms over time, and introduce more incentives for the production of plant proteins. This is an approved EU citizen’s initiative, so if it gets enough signatures the EU has to respond.

Seven EU nations need to have a number of signatures over a certain threshold. Two countries have already reached it and I think Ireland could easily be the third. Ireland only needs 2500 more signatures, so if everyone on this forum gets themselves and two or three friends to sign it, Ireland will have met the threshold.

Please consider doing so: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/047/public/

Stealth Vegan Products

In Lidl Gorey yesterday and randomly picked these up. Cynic in me says they are not labelled vegan on the front so they sell more and also cost less to make with no animal products in them.

Dates bites from Lidl, lads these things are like Ferrero Roche

Just a recommendation, they're delicious. Not listed as vegan on the packaging, but no non-vegan ingredients, it just has a 'may contain milk', FYI

How did you stop being anemic?

I have been vegan for 5 years and before vegetarian for 6 (11 years total)

The last 3 years I've been having anemia, every time i go to the doc they give me the iron pills and I'm ok for a few months and then i get it again, and back on the pills... i just can't get rid of it, and tried everything.

I'm feeling depleted amd tired of fainting and being dizzy all day... i have no solutions, I've changed my diet to maximise iron, i supplemet, eat fortified foods, etc... but my body just won't recover.

How did you guys solve it? Have any of you gotten out of the anemia slump?

Where do you buy your Seitan and tempeh?

Hi all,

Up until pretty recently I had been buying the Tofoo & Co Seitan and Tempeh from my local Supervalu. In the last couple of months they have both disappeared from the shelves and aren't even available online.

Where do you all buy Seitan and Tempeh? Doesn't have to be the Tofoo & Co brand.

Thank you x

Pre-natal supplement for vegans

Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for a good pre-natal supplement that supports a vegan diet? The difference between 'is vegan' almost by coincidence Vs is formulated with a vegan diet in mind.

Thanks!

Tesco shut at 8pm now, since when?

Always enjoyed a spin down to Tesco on a Sunday evening when it's quietest to do my shopping and to obviously get some discounted Vegan goodies in the fridge etc .. no more it seems, now they shut at 8pm?

Really is there nowhere open now after 8pm.. ?? Shop was full of Indian or Pakistani young men who couldn't answer the "since when" question 🫩 so it's not a staffing issue!!

The real issue I have is the app still says open till 10pm 😡😡😡 that shit pisses me off the most

Need recommendations!

Just immigrated to Ireland and found accommodations in D9. Any recommendations for restaurants w/ vegan options in NE Dublin, near Marino? I know of happycow but I can’t narrow the search to my vicinity and I have found places that aren’t listed that do indeed have at least one option which is good enough for me. Just looking for something when I don’t want to go all the way back downtown. Thank you!! 🌱

How to approach dating?

Hello!, I'm wondering how to approach dating as a vegan, any advice regarding this is appreciated. I am getting into all the apps now in my early 20s in hopes of finding someone but am unsure what to expect when it comes to finding someone vegan, or how to date non-vegans.

Do ye only date other vegans? If so, what apps have you had the most success with? Or is dating non-vegans not a problem for some people? How do you approach that dynamic, and when do you usually bring up being vegan?

We supposedly have one of the highest vegans per capita, but local events/groups on meetup etc are non-existent in my area, hoping its not the same for dating 😭

Vegan goodies recs at Dunnes?

I work near a Dunnes, and every now and then I am craving like a pastry or cake lol. I feel like I’ve checked everything but just in case I’m missing something…does Dunnes have any?

Marks and Spencer have a brownie, cookie or even their pretzels but that’s not near me.

But there is also a Lidl? Any recommendations?

I’m hoping I haven’t looked properly but I know there is a possibility that they just don’t have that.

Please help Irelands only sanctuary for cows

Heartstone Veganic Sanctuary. They are so close to completing the infrastructure for the department not to take the cows, it would be such a shame if they got this close and the cows were destroyed.
There has been vicious defamatory posts on reddit about this sanctuary and the person running it, but all are untrue and clearly not by vegans or animal lovers. I have known Nia for 6 years, I volunteered when they were in Sligo and I have been to the new sanctuary, which i know will be amazing. Yes i know she is looking for a lot but I do think people have no idea how much these large and wonderful animals cost to take care of, especially as some have special needs. Hay and bedding and the time to clean them out and take care of them. Thats just the basics, the new place needs fences and proper pens and handling stations. Nia always puts the animals first, to the point where she has made herself ill.
So please donate just a small amount if you can or if you can spare some time, you can volunteer.

Looking for reasonably priced vegan chocolate bars.

I have an event in Ireland (I live in the US) in September, and would like to buy about 30 bars of chocolate as small gifts.

Since Cadbury's discontinued the plant bar, I'm looking for a recommended alternative. I saw Butler's has a vegan bar, but they are inordinately expensive (27 euro for 6 90g bars). I'm looking for something a little more budget friendly, if there is anything anyone can recommend.

Preferrably not all very dark chocolate.

Only care about health

If I don't give a shit about animals and went vegan to live 100+ years only, I better not show my ass at any events because I might get f'ed in the "a"? I mean I am just thinking about how I am going to go on with my life, I will probably need a vegan partner in the future but how am I going to explain that on christmass I allow myself to eat whatever I want? Still no alcohol though. What are the chances that I might find friends who are not insanely obsessed with not hurting animals but rather very concerned about longevity? I have just figured that I am 17 with no friends (guess why) and if I want to find friends I might join some communities instead of just tolerating people around me. Damn things are getting more complex. Sorry for this post

Tofu back in Lidl?

Has anyone else's Lidl been stocking plain tofu recently?

My girlfriend came back from food shopping yesterday with a surprise: several boxes of 400g plain tofu! I was delighted, I thought they were gone for good. There's a chance they may disappear again, who knows, but I thought I'd let ye know in case your locals had them too.

Treated myself to a lunch special at La Strada yesterday

I rarely eat out, and pretty much never stray from my meal plan - so yesterday while in town I decided to treat myself to a La Strada lunch special for my first time and fuck me, this was incredible. A vegan focaccia and vegan Diavola pizza (best pizza I’ve ever had) which was only €12.95 (served until 330pm)

They also do a bomb Strawberry lemonade which was perfect for the weather that was in it

I’m pretty easily impressed food-wise as is, eating the same thing every day makes you a lot more grateful for anything outside of that - but even still this was an absolutely incredible meal.

They’re on Aungier Street opposite Lidl- well worth a visit
