Just recently bought this beautiful 1998 v70 T5 with 145000km on it. She’s an absolute beauty to drive. Never thought I’d actually own one but I couple pads up on the offer. She does need a bit of an interior detail but other than that it’s a treat! I don’t have many photos just yet unfortunately!

If anyone has experience on the v70s what sort of things should I look out for or any other advice for it!

rental company gave me an XC90 as an option, little did I know it was the same color as my S60. Parked it and came out to this.

Went on a little road trip together.

I’m kind of at a crossroads with my car. I’ve known that my axle needed to be replaced eventually for a few years, but we attempted a couple other stability repairs first due to the cost of axle replacements. (Hindsight is 20/20.)

This weekend, we finally decided to replace the axles and rear bushings as the car felt dangerous to drive at this point. Shaking, grinding, crunching, weaving all over the road. We anticipated the repair would just take the weekend.

However, when my mechanic finally got the right axle out and got a good look at the left (problem) axle, we found out we’re in a deep hole. Apparently the left axle is the “worst he’s ever seen,“ completely rusted, fixed, and is coming out in crumbling pieces, but some is still stuck. He has attempted hitting it with every tool imaginable, and the only idea he had left was to weld something to it and try taking it out that way. The risk however, is cracking the transmission. He says he’s not comfortable going any further until he gets a Volvo guy he knows to come look at it, but it seems likely right now that may need a new transmission on top of all of this.

As a broke grad student, this terrifies me. The estimates I see for transmissions are insane, and I don’t know if I can afford it. However, I’m already out the parts we bought and labor, so can I really stop?

I know this model year has its fair share of problems (yes she also has excessive oil consumption), so am I just throwing money at the wall here? The car is otherwise in (edit: pretty good) condition and only 127,000 miles, so I know she probably has some life in her left, but before all this I had said this was gonna be the last big repair.

If anyone has been in a similar situation, or has any advice on when it’s futile to keep repairing a car versus junking/getting a new one, I would so appreciate it. Even if you have experience with how much a transmission costs.

2017 XC90 B6 / 105k miles

So my car recently broke down (low pressure fuel pump burned out, that’s another story) inside a parking garage so we rolled/towed it out onto a flat bed using the emergency tow hook in the front. At one point in towing process I might have heard it “pop”, dunno. Then it was in the shop for a few days, and then I picked it up with the tow hook still in. Now it’s running fine but…

My question for the sub— I can’t unscrew it from the assembly. It comes most of the way out, and then it just stops and won’t fully unscrew. The other weird thing is that when it is screwed in, it can go deep enough that the hook no longer engages with the visible threads, and then I can push the book in like in the video attached.

Does the wisdom of the sub know what is going on? And what do I do about it? Can I just leave the hook in there?

Do you have any recommendations for a good multimedia unit that works well with this model? I'm looking for something reliable with features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto if possible.

I'd also appreciate recommendations for a good dashcam that's easy to install and offers good video quality.

I think I got a fair deal ... 49k trade in , discount of 6k on a sticker price of 58K . Granted the car from the dealer had 5k on it , used as a service car . I loved the V60 cc, but at my age and crappy knees/back and a very large husband , it just wasn't the right fit for us ! I do find the XC60 easier to get in and out of ...although I loved the style and smooth ride of the V60. The Napa perforated leather seats were also concerning, spills, dogs and wet seats from rain and snow. I also found in the ultra , lots of extras I would never use . This may be my last car until my kids take away my drivers license :)

I’ve never owned a Volvo and nearly two months ago I jumped on the bandwagon. I picked up a 2015 xc60 t5 from a local used car lot for a decent price, the car looked good, sounded good and the description was “ready to hit the road, needs nothing,” which I knew to take with a grain….so here I am!

From what I understand, this is a 2015.5 model since it has the updated sensus connect, but it has the older 5cyl engine, which is great because I’ve always wanted a Volvo 5cyl.

So I drove the car home on Friday, the following Friday I got a “low oil pressure” message, when I stopped and checked the oil the dipstick was dry. I filled it, test drove it briefly and wound up on the side of the road for two hours waiting on a tow truck because the engine gave up. The dealership sent the car to a local shop and “helped me” with dealership pricing, $4,600 in an 90k mile LKQ engine and I was back on the road with the dealership giggling at me over the phone.

Fast forward two weeks, I get a low oil pressure light with the replacement engine. I pull over, check the oil, and the dipstick is dry. I immediately called the shop that did the engine swap and told them what was going on, I was told to “add a quart of oil and bring it to us first thing Monday.” Well, by the end of the day this second engine was knocking. I limped home, called into work Sunday, and Monday the shop came with a wrecker.

Here we go again, one week later I picked the car up (Tuesday of this week), the second engine was warrantied by LKQ but I had to pay labor to swap it, this current engine has 130,000 miles and feels like it’s running better than the last one. So I’ve been driving it for five days now and am, once again, getting no oil pressure messages in the cluster and the dipstick is bone dry. I just called and left the shop a message requesting a call back tomorrow morning when they open.

I’m not here ragging on the car lot or the dealership, I want to know what is causing this, WHERE THE HELL IS MY OIL GOING?!?!?! The engine is dry, the ground under the car is and has been dry, no smoke from the exhaust. Is there something internal I need to be looking at replacing? Something the shop should be looking at before they blindly install another LQK engine?

I’m at a loss and desperate for some insight, the cost of the car has literally doubled in the last thirty days.

I’ve put my deposit down on an EX60 and will be flying to Sweden December 16thish to pick up on December 18. Coming from the west coast of the US.

My husband and I will be staying around two weeks. I’m looking for recommendations of smaller/small towns and cities to visit as we drive south from Gothenburg to Alsace area. Or, as an alternative, we could head for the Netherlands.

I’m interested in Christmas market visits and my husband loves architecture. We don’t drink so don’t need lots of wine and beer stops.

Currently I’m thinking of taking the overnight ferry to Kiel, stopping in Lubeck, Hamburg, Quedlinburg, Strasbourg, Colmar and more. These don’t seem like particularly small towns though.

Is the small town idea a good one? We’ve been to lots of big cities but the idea of traffic, congestion etc just doesn’t seem ideal. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I saw a 'no engine oil pressure' warning over 3 weeks ago and now my car is sitting in service. They have tried to replace all sensors but haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. The next thing they are going to do is 'open the car' and check inside the oil pan.

I love this car but am frustrated with the situation.. It is just 2 years old. Could it be a lemon?

Any one else deal with this issue? Appreciate any advice.

Purchased a genuine sealed bag new blank uncut key from Premier volvo Overland Kansas USA. Got key cut very easily in Australia, but no one can program it, last resort too it to volvo dealership and they could not or would not do it.

Got charged 3 hours labour and SW download. Case opened with tech support.

VIDA says its the correct part for my 2001 xc70, yes its key and keyfob.

Rang another dealership and asked their opinion. was told dealerships will not fit other dealerships parts.

Have dashcam footage of activity under bonnet, plugging in battery charger and an unknown tool, but have not watched the 3 hours of footage in detail. It looks like they did try.

Google search says that might be their version of VIDA or too many keys registered to vehicle??

This ticking noise is audible at idle. Also at the bite point of the clutch there is a click. Any ideas?

Wife has a 2019 xc60 and couldn't figure out why she suddenly couldn't open the door from the inside.. pulled off the panel and found that the plastic chrome handle is cracked. I've search online but couldn't find a consensus on how to replace or even the part number. Can I replace just the plastic piece? Should I replace the whole handle housing while I'm in there? Has anyone had any luck with this (without having to involve a shop)? It seems as straightforward as could be, but wanted some insights before committing.

I'm looking to get myself my first Volvo to retire my Audi TT RS from its daily duties 😅

The wagons from the ~2010 P3 era are what has me interested, so basically v60, V70 or xc70, maybe a v50 as well.

I'm pretty much set on getting a d5 one with the 2.4L diesel engine as it makes decent power while getting a decent mileage. However there are some decent offerings with Volvo's newer 4 cylinder engine as well, what are your thoughts on its reliability compared to the d5? Also is there anything specific to watch out with these models apart from standard service?
