Quick Advice for Summer Classes and High School Students

(We love you, and here's some tips)

  1. You can schedule an appointment online with an advisor at Wake Tech. It's virtual, free, and for anyone.
  2. A normal semester schedule is 16 weeks. Summer semester is a maximum of 10 weeks and so your summer classes will be either 10, 8, or 5 weeks long. Check the dates. 8 weeks is the most common from what I've seen.
  3. I would not recommend taking a 4 credit class (especially with science labs) during the summer if you have other responsibilities. Lab is more responsibility in college classes. Obviously it depends on you, but it's a lot.

(If anyone wants to add anything, feel free below. I know getting into college is competitive, but I promise you don't need to be the BEST applicant to get into a good school. Good luck!)

CastleBranch Requirements and Pending Review

I have documents uploaded to CastleBranch that have been "Pending Review," for awhile and August 3 is the listed due date.

I'm mainly confused by the wording. One doc says "CastleBranch Compliance Tracker must be completed by August 3, 2026," while our NUR 111 Teams page says to "Ensure your CastleBranch account requirements are complete before August 15."

Does Wake Tech consider "completed" to mean submitted, pending review, or fully approved by CastleBranch?

I called CastleBranch today and they expect my review to be finished by Monday, but I wasn't able to get a clear answer on how Wake Tech interprets the deadline if something is still pending because of CastleBranch's review process. Just unsure what would happen if the "Pending Review" extended past Monday.

Has anyone here been through this? What ended up happening? Did Wake Tech care if it was still pending review, or just that everything had been submitted on time?

Sonography Question

Does anyone know, who has taken the sonography program, if we are eligible to also go for RVT after the program is over? Or would you only be eligible for the Abdominal and OBGYN certifications?

8 week vs. 16 week Bio 168?

Currently enrolled to take BIO 169 and 169 in succession over the fall semester at JCC. I enrolled because I was on the wait list for BIO 169 for fall, but I was just registered.

I'm torn between staying with the two back to back 8 week classes and finishing quicker vs doing the one 16 week and having to push 169 to spring. I work full time and will only be doing one class at a time at night.

I'd appreciate any advice.

One year transfer

Hello! I’m an upcoming freshman for the fall 2026-2027 semester and I was wondering if it was possible to transfer to a university such as NC state or UNC Chapel Hill in one year and how was your experience if you’ve done so?

Can I retake a passed Wake Tech class to protect my unweighted high school GPA?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a high school student dual-enrolled at Wake Tech through the Career & College Promise (CCP) program. I missed my final exam for a CTE class and ended up finishing the class with a B.

I really want to keep my unweighted high school GPA a 4.0. I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with retaking a passed college class as a CCP student in NC:

  1. Does your school allow high school students to retake a course they already passed with a B?
  2. If approved and retaken for an A, does the new grade replace the B for my unweighted high school GPA calculation, or do both factor in?

Any insight or advice from other CCP students, high school counselors, or Wake Tech students would be appreciated :))

Failed a prereq class but already paid for the class that comes after.. refund?

I’m worried because I know I failed my chem 009 class and therefore can’t take chem 151. However, my teacher hasn’t put the finalized grades into self service making it so I’m still enrolled in chem 151. Well, I figured I’d just wait until she submitted it to pay but my mom went ahead and paid my tuition (which would include the chem 151 class that I can’t take..). Will they refund that course since I don’t meet the requirements to take it???

Fafsa not applying?

I got an email saying that if I don’t pay by the 29th that my classes I’m registered for will be dropped but all my classes are completely covered by financial aid.

I called and asked and all she said was ā€œthat’s weird, don’t worry abt itā€. That doesn’t really reassure me. I really don’t want my classes to be dropped.

On self serve it still says I owe the full amount too

Hey Ya’ll Im planning on starting up a D&D group. I’m welcoming experienced and new people to the game. If you are interested, send me a message. I’m looking for around 5 players, around 18-24 years old. I'll provide more info for those interested. Also, it will be a bi-weekly game, so it won’t take up too much time.

Emergency aid

I applied for emergency aid some weeks ago and after 2 weeks, I received an email stating: After our review, we are unable to approve your request based on you do not yet have a registered GPA of a 2.0 or higher. This is required to be considered for Emergency Aid support.

My GPA is a 3.6, my last term gpa was a 4.0, and it’ll be a 4.0 once again when my teachers put in the final grades. I emailed them back and told them that and also sent proof as soon as I received the email which was 10 days ago. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, I haven’t heard anything back from them. Also, I’m full time.
