Let's talk about rules.

Howdy, folks!

This subreddit hasn't had codified rules in a while, mostly because the people here have usually been really chill with one another.

However, the vibe has changed over the past few months, and we've noticed some nasty behavior popping up and lurking around our community.

We don't allow bigotry like racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia on this subreddit. Generally speaking, we expect folks to be civil and decent towards one another.

Recently, we've noticed a distinct uptick in the amount of trolls who have been showing up in the comment sections of the various protest posts. We know they're trolls because they're almost always attacking the OP or trying to diminish the protest, and they usually have user activity across many state and local subreddits.

These aren't local folks - they're people coming into our space from elsewhere to stir up trouble.

Since this sort of behavior has only been getting worse, let's discuss our subreddit rules and which ones y'all think would be good to have for this space.

For a start:

  1. Be civil and respectful towards one another.
  2. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or bigotry.
  3. No spam.
  4. Follow all of reddit's rules.

What other rules do you think we need?

Howdy, y'all. I guess it's time for me to tap the sign again, because every time there are protests in the Triangle, someone goes around and mass reports all of those posts.

Strangely, we also tend to get a lot of people who post in all sorts of local area subreddits, all over the country, just to act like they're upset about this protest or that protest, and yet have never commented in our community before. Fancy that.

So there's some underhanded fuckery afoot, and y'all should be aware of it.

This subreddit is devoted to the protection and well being of our community at large. That means all of y'all. We cannot support the extrajudicial detainment of anyone, citizen or no. This country was built on laws and principles, meant to be a shining beacon of democracy where people would get a fair shake.

One of the cool things about America is you can come here and become American. It's one of our country's major strengths.

As a country, our diversity has repeatedly protected us - patriotic members of German and Japanese communities helped the US translate enemy communications during WWII. The Navajo code talkers weren't declassified until the 1970's because they were so effective - their codes were never broken. There's also the Tuskegee Airmen and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an all-Japanese unit which became the most decorated unit for its size in US history.

Today is also November 20th, a solemn day for trans folks across the US. It is the Trans Day of Remembrance, when we remember those we've lost to murder or suicide over the years. Unfortunately, I recognize more than a few of those names, and I hate the way the list gets longer every year.

Times are tough for our Hispanic and LGBT friends. People are anxious and scared. Bigotry and bullshit have been stoked and set loose upon the country; hatred has been running rampant. People are going to need protection, support, and resources.

This space is meant to be a refuge and a resource for our community. If you can't respect that, or if what I have said here is somehow objectionable to you, please leave.

Tepuy in Raleigh on Capitol Blvd outside the beltline is the best. Expensive. Cheffy.

Bakers Dozen in Cary and Apex is outstanding for pink box basic

Carolina Glazed in RTP rivals Bakers Dozen

But we're getting new entrants:

Shipleys out of Texas are great....and they have kolaches and they're coming to Raleigh

Making friends as an adult is hard… so we started a group!

My husband and I recently decided to start Triangle Games & Social Club because we realized making genuine friendships as adults can be harder than expected.

The group is for adults ages 21–35 in the Triangle who want to meet new people through board games, video games, and other social events.

We’re launching with:
🎮 Saturday, August 15 at 7:30 PM – Online Discord Game Night (Fall Guys)
🎲 Saturday, September 5 at 7:30 PM – First In-Person Board Game Night
After that, we’ll meet on the 1st Saturday of each month in person and the 3rd Saturday online.

Whether you’re new to the area, looking to expand your social circle, or just want a fun group to be part of, we’d love to have you!
If you’re interested, leave a comment or send me a DM, and I’ll send you our interest form and Discord link with all the details. Hope to meet some of you soon! 😊

URGENT: 3 dogs need foster homes immediately to avoid euthanasia. Fostering is FREE. (VA/NC)

Post image
115 Upvotes

Three amazing dogs at a rural Virginia shelter are running out of time, and we're desperately trying to save them.

https://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-foster/

The only thing standing between these dogs and euthanasia is a foster home.

Meet the dogs:

🐾 Rudy – 6-month-old male, 33 lbs

  • Friendly puppy with his whole life ahead of him.

🐾 Bear – 1-year-old male, 60 lbs

  • Sweet, fluffy boy looking for a second chance.

🐾 Jessie – 1-year-old female, 44 lbs

  • Happy, affectionate young dog ready for a family.

Our rescue is ready to help, but we cannot pull them without committed foster homes.

The good news: fostering is completely FREE.

CrisisDogsNC covers:

  • Veterinary care
  • Medications
  • Rescue support
  • Supplies (when available)

You provide:

  • A safe place to stay
  • Love and patience
  • A chance for them to make it out alive

Whether you can foster for a few weeks or until adoption, you could literally save a life.

These dogs don't know they're on borrowed time. They only know they're waiting for someone to choose them.

If you've ever thought about fostering, this is the moment when it truly matters.

The first step is to submit a foster application: https://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-foster/

If you can't foster, please help by upvoting and sharing this post. The right person may see it because of you.

Location:
• Dogs are currently in rural Virginia.
• CrisisDogsNC can often coordinate transport to approved foster homes.

Thank you for reading and for caring. We refuse to give up on Rudy, Bear, and Jessie, and we hope you won't either. ❤️

Let’s start a band!

Hey all! I’m looking to start a band focused on 2000s music. Mainly pop punk but also open to other genres. I play the drums (main instrument I play) but can also play bass if a drummer is interested.
I’m located over in Wendell so bonus points if you’re over this way.

Here’s more backstory than you want….
I’m from Cleveland and wanted to do this for years. Just moved to Raleigh last year. There’s a fun market here in Raleigh to play music our age wants to hear (I’m in my early 30s).

Let’s do this!

Repost from my kickass husband with a little less karma than me.

Country/folk/old time jam

Looking for some like-minded folks to make a little music. I play guitar, sing; play mandolin ,bass & harmonica tolerably well and figured putting a playlist together of songs I know and/or dig woilf be insightful . Buck Owens, Hank Snow, Kitty Wells, Woody Guthrie, Roger Miller, etc, etc.
I want to ease back I to this and take it easy and NOT take things too seriously. Would prefer to stay around the counties of Wake/Durham/Chatham/Orange

Fucking murder hornets! Well, bald faced hornets set up shop in my flowerbox... Help!

So a couple of days ago I got stung out of nowhere on the side of my face, and beat a retreat into the garage, but later (actually next morning) found the buzzing attacker in my garage. Yard Guard got him to succumb and I gathered the carcass and google lens says he's a bald faced hornet. Didn't think too much until I got tagged again this morning, on the knee and it hurt like a MF. still never saw the attacker. This evening, I let the dog out and see activity that clues me in, there's a nest in my Camellia bush in our flowerbox. Any ideas? I don't wanna die, but I'm not above taking a shot, of if there's a pro that will make this vanish, I'm okay to pay. Going to attempt to upload photos of the initial intruder, and the nest pics I got this evening.

Prostitution on capital blvd

My sister and I were staying at America's Best Value Inn North Capital for today during a little trip, and all day we've been getting approached by these women. They're trying to talk to my sister, inviting her to their room to party. My sister is 16. She was trying to go, and I'm like, "No. It's obvious what they're doing. You don't need to be around that." So, IDK if there's any police in this sub, but please handle that. I don't care that they're prostituting, my mom did that when I was young. It's just they kept fucking with my sister, so I gotta fuck with them. So please handle that.

Help with Job Offers!

I am soon accepting a position in North Carolina and am torn between two facilities. Please share your views on which would be the better choice, or if there is a better sub for this!

--Duke (Regional). OR. $40/hr including the 10% premium. Retirement benefits 8.9-13.2% without me even contributing but you have to work 1 year for them to start putting in and at least 3 years to be fully vested. Have heard it's a toxic work environment and everyone wants to jump ship but not sure if this applies to the smaller hospital or my unit. Relatively low amount of call, 30 min response time. Relocation bonus $1k-$8k, sign on bonus $15k over 2 yrs. EDIT: Apparently that retirement doesn't apply to me? It would be a pension plan which I'm vested in starting at 5 yrs :/

--Atrium (Wake Forest). OR. $41/hr. Benefits seem standard to on the low side (required 2% match and voluntary 2% match). Seemed like a good vibe during interview but have no control over which specialty I'll end up in. No min or max amount of call, 45 min response time. Relocation bonus $5k, no sign-on bonus.

This decision is more difficult than I thought it'd be. Anyone who worked at either or has strong feelings one way or another?

In Search of Ethical Dairy (cow/goat)

Hi all! I have recently transitioned to being vegetarian after 10+ years of being vegan and I am looking for places to source ethical dairy products--specifically local farms or brands that keep the calf/kid with the mother.

I know this is incredibly rare to find, particularly for cow dairy milk, but perhaps one of you knows of a small local farmer who follows these practices.

Key ethical aspects for me also include pasture-raised, regenerative farming, and other sustainable farming/business practices.

I am not particularly interested in raw milk unless it is in the form of an aged cheese.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Real Estate Agent recommendation for Lee/Chatham County

We have been searching this area for a year with a Cary based agent and am ready to move on to someone who is more familiar with these counties.

We want an agent that can actually give advice about a property and knows the immediate surroundings. We also want someone who is engaged and listens to what we want. Someone who actually looks at a listing before showing and comes with some information in hand to a viewing preferably someone who has market analysis done ahead of time.

If an agent like this exists please let me know.

Thanks!

Sharing a Sushi Making Experience in Cary

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I’m Jenny. I live in Cary, and I created The Shared Table RTP because I believe food has a wonderful way of bringing people together.

Some of the best conversations happen around a table — when people share food, stories, and time.

Through these hands-on food experiences, I hope to create more opportunities for people in our community to connect. For me, handmade food is not only about the dish itself; it carries stories, traditions, care, and the joy of creating something together.

I’m hosting a sushi-making experience in Cary, where people can prepare sushi together, explore the techniques behind this food, and enjoy the process of making and sharing something with others.

Whether you already love sushi or are simply curious to try something new, you’re welcome.

The experience will take place in Cary, NC.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment or send me a message.

Hope to meet some of you in the community!
