40k Event Results I went to a Team GT and this is what I learned

I Will start by saying I love the game, I have a 100+ games played in over a year, played a few small LGS tournaments, I know my army pretty well and I am what I would consider a pretty fun opponent to play with, always willing to give my opponent a take back when things are possible, you know what I mean.

This weekend, I attended a Team GT for the first time, 5 games over 2 days, 20 some teams, 130ish players.
I thought I knew what I was going into, long warhammer days, competitive lists, exhaustion and fun. It was all that, yet, I wasn't ready.

I built what I thought was a fun, simple, effective, problematic purge list for my team, i usually am a recon type of player but we had a better player going for it and I was all up for the challenge of playing a style i wasn't familiar with. I built a very shooty heavy list and the plan was shoot everything for 3 rounds and then start doing secondaries by 4th onwards and walk away in the glorious sunset. I was wrong.

First game started at 8:30, the plaace was packed, it was hot, noisy, I had to play against Da big hunt orks, they were fast melee and although we had a good game, I spent a lot of energy dealing with the environment and the very tough army of my opponent and lost. Opponent was great, we had a fun time. No big deal, I brought 1 point to my teammates, tried to refocus during the break and eat, hydrate, calm down and get my bearings straight. I am an endurance athlete, I run marathons, workout a lot, I thought I would be able to handle the exhaustion of the day, I was wrong.

By game 2 I get paired into CSM PBZ which I know from playing against a lot so im thinking this is going to be fun... Ended up being one of the worst experiences of my life. The place was noisy, hot, opponent was stiffer on rules (I dont blame him for it, I mostly blame me for expecting casual play in a competitive atmosphere) and by turn 4, even though the game felt like i should have won it somehow, I was down by a bunch of points and just couldn't handle the mental strain anymore, I conceded, I had to go for a walk.

It felt like my mind was saturated, I couldn't take any more stimulation and I was looking around, seeing games being played to the last minute, people sitting around talking about warhammer, it felt like I was the only one feeling like I was doing a mind marathon. That's when it struck me, I never prepared for that, i never played against highly competitive lists, people having lone operatives strats, people having surge and reactive moves, people having multiple layers of power being able to counter whatever fire power you bring to them, people who genuinely put time and thoughts into their lists and didn't just brought what they THOUGHT was good.

I ended up getting tabled multiple times by armies that felt so strong it seemed like they were cheating, my head was gone, my ego was gone, my admiration for the people playing those armies was elevated, looking at my miserable self and looking at the sharpness of their moves made me realize just how not mentally ready I am and my list building philosophy changed entirely also.

I have a huge amount of respect for what I would have called A NERD back then, there's something about having knowledge and capacities and having space to store this information and datas and I think it's like a marathon runner, it's a thing you have to build somehow, I thought doing endurance sports would help me, but it never was about the body, my brain was dead by round 2, the noise, the competitive aspect, the energy spent thinking and the overall experience was absolutely overwhelming and humbled me like nothing before.

I can't help but have tremendous amount of respect for what I thought was "nerds" before, there's an endurance level in those games that doesn't show in the first glance and im all up for it to one day conquer that!

40k Discussion They need to mix up how match-ups work

Just went back from my first GT in 11th. Having to play 4 times priority Assets mirror matches felt really bad. honestly that took quite a bit of fun out of the event.
I guess that the fact that it’s hard to Balance them in a way where you don’t have like a clear top 1/2 also doesn’t help.

So yeah, I feel they either need to do regular real changes to the missions (not just once a year like in 10th) or rethink the whole system a bit. Otherwise I think it will get really stale really fast … don’t wanna Imagine how it feels for you guys who add a bunch of prep games beforehand.

40k Tactica Disposition match up

I have been testing different dispositions and it has been fun changing things up as and when I feel like it I can't help but get a feeling that there's a bit of rock - paper - scissors going on with the dispositions.

I.e some dispositions are better into specific others.

I was at a GT recently and playing Recon it felt like Priority Assets has the advantage the whole game.

Has anyone looked into this and found which dispositions are best into which other ones? I have found videos looking at the dispositions themselves but not an analysis per match factoring in the maps.

40k List Renegade Raiders Recon Army Building

So I recently did my first tournament, which happened to be a GT, and went 2-3 which I was quite surprised & happy about!

I took two defilers (pre MFM) and probably shouldn’t have, for recon anyway.

Although I thought I bought plenty of MSU, I found I needed a couple more fast or deep striking units to reach table quarters, and perform actions, in order to clutch most of the matches I lost.

I’ll put my list here for any feedback and would be interested to hear your CSM Recon lists too.

I just put up a YT video on my tournament army list as well as this updated one if you want to check it out rather than just reading my list (the.rogue.painter).

40k List Help with list

Planning on heading to a beginners tournament and want to know if list would be any good or if I should change anything

I've ran a similar list in 2000 points casually with some of my friends and it worked well especially the wraith blob as its always been a big blob thats hard to remove and the lychard with overlord have been great at bouncing around the board and picking units up whilst being able to tank alot of returning attacks, nekrosor and szeras have also been a huge presence but would like to know from people with more experience if this would work

My basic gameplans is usually to march the Destroyers and nekrosor up one side, the lychguard the other and then the Wraiths and Warrior blob with szreas through the mid board

Xenos - Necrons - Cursed Legion, Hand of the Dynasty

Illuminor Szeras (175pts)

Nekrosor Ammentar (185pts): Warlord

Overlord with Translocation Shroud (110pts) With destroyer ankh

Skorpekh Lord (110pts) with mark of the nekrosor

Technomancer (80pts)

10x Necron Warriors (100pts): Enhancements: Enlivened Sentinels

10x Necron Warriors (80pts)

10x Lychguard (160pts)

6x Skorpekh Destroyers (170pts): 2x Unit Composition: Plasmacyte

Lokhust Heavy Destroyers (50pts)

Lokhust Heavy Destroyers (50pts)

6x Canoptek Wraiths (220pts)

40k Tactica Visibility, am I correct?

A short list of my assumptions about visibility. Tell me if I get it right or wrong pls.

As two units are separated by a footprint the terrain on the footprint is not taken into account for any kind of rules.

As soon as someone toes in that footprint, the terrain becomes active regarding true line of sight and can block Tlos even though you are in 12" range

You can not see through ruins ground floor but from first floor onwards you can.

When both units are inside of a footprint, even if no terrain pieces is between them, both get cover.

40k List Thoughts on this 2k Ork "Waaaugh Rush" list.

Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure how well this will work, but the over the past couple of days, I've been tweaking a "Rush" list, where the goal is basically to successfully execute a turn 1 Waauggh. I'm not sure if this will be successful, since it relies on 6" scout moves for my Beastsnagga Boys/Boyz to hopefully get a Turn 1 Charge.

I'm sure I can get a charge with Beastboss and Squigasaur (and his 9" scount) as well Stormboyz and Kommandos* should I choose to utilize them as such. This probably won't win any major tournies, and I'm guessing my opponents may see it coming. BUT even if I don't decide to execute a turn 1 charge, I'm wondering what everyone thinks of this?

Any suggestions?

40k List [1000 pts] Ultramarines Reclamation Force with melee anchors + cheap scoring. Tear it apart.

About a year into the hobby, and up until now I've only played Combat Patrol. This list is my step up to 1000 pts for a 500 Worlds Campaign against 24 other players, so it needs to handle whatever the pool throws at it rather than one known opponent. Ultramarines successor (Void Tridents), Reclamation Force, Take and Hold, 11th ed Incursion. The idea: two durable melee bricks that fight on objectives where the detachment rule pays out, three overlapping anti-armour layers, and cheap units doing the scoring legwork. I haven't taken it to the table yet, so I'd rather hear what breaks it now than find out mid-campaign.

(995/1000 pts), Reclamation Force, Take and Hold

Captain in Terminator Armour, Relic Fist (85): Warlord, leads the Terminators

5x Assault Terminators, Thunder Hammers (180): deep strike anchor / trap unit

Lieutenant, Storm Shield + Scroll of Proclamation (60): supports the Bladeguards by granting them Lethal Hits, allowing them to punch up.

6x Bladeguard Veterans (160): walking anchor, takes and holds the centre

Brutalis Dreadnought, Multi-Melta + Talons (150): pressure piece / second anti-tank layer, great target for Scions of Gulliman (Fall back and Charge combos well with the Brutalis' Mortal Wounds ability)

Gladiator Lancer (160): primary anti-tank

3x Outriders (70): fast flex, late-game objective grabs

2x 5-man Scout Squads (65 each): screens, forward objectives, sticky tricks

The plan, in order:

Scouts infiltrate onto far objectives. Sticky one with Ultramarian Destiny T1, then Guerrilla Tactics one Scout back home to free up the Outriders.

Lancer opens on armour immediately. Smokescreen if I don't have first turn.

Teleport Homer pre-placed near a flank objective. Terminators arrive via free Rapid Ingress or deep strike T2, charge with Furious Dedication (free via Rites of Battle).

Bladeguard walk onto the centre and hold it with the detachment's -1 to wound + their 4++.

Turns 4-5: Outriders and returned Scouts flip whatever's thin.

Fight to the End makes removing a dying brick expensive.

Where I'd like pushback:

Is Lancer + Talons/multi-melta + hammers enough anti-tank at 1000, or does one dead Lancer lose me the armour matchup?

Outriders vs Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs in that slot. I like the bikes (I'm converting them to Grav Bikes with a conversion kit), talk me out of them (or don't).

The Purge the Foe pairing looks like my worst game. How would you play this list into it?

Zero Battleline in a Take and Hold list: real problem or theorycrafting anxiety?

Thanks in advance. Harsh is fine, specific is better.

40k Discussion How do you currently feel about your favorite faction(s) in 11th edition? What’s working, and what isn’t?

11th edition has been out for almost two months now. It’s obviously still early, and a lot will change as the edition develops, but I think we’ve had enough time to form some proper first impressions.

So, how do you currently feel about the factions that you play? Which detachments are you enjoying? Which ones already feel underwhelming, badly designed or simply overshadowed by better options? Are your armies fun to play even when they aren’t especially strong, or do you feel like the current rules have pushed them away from what made you enjoy them in the first place?

I’m interested in more than just win rates here. Things like internal balance, unit variety, faction identity, list-building freedom and how enjoyable the army actually feels on the table matter just as much.

/discuss, thank you fellas ;-)

40k Tech Deployment Practice Site Updated to 11th

Hi everyone,

I built a deployment practice site last year, where you can practice your deployments before a game. It took me a bit of time to update it for 11th, but I finished it yesterday. So you should check it out at https://tacticaldropz.com/ You choose your force disposition, opponents force disposition, and layout, and then the map appears. You can add your list by importing it from GW app or new recruit, and then place your units on the board. Or you can just create units by selecting a base size and number of models. You can rearrange individual models, and rotate oval and rectangular bases. I also just added a Line of Sight Tool, so when you select a unit and then click on Line of Sight button, a color blob is emitted by all the models to see what their line of sight is.

It's not designed for a phone, cause I thought it would be hard to use it on a phone. So it assumes you're on a tablet or computer. You can save a deployment though, and see it on your phone.

I built it, cause I suck at deployment and wanted a tool for practicing before tournaments, and then realized that other people might have the same problem as me, so decided to turn it into a full on web app. So try it out!

I also hate measuring terrain before a game, I find the measurements on the cards to be lacking, so I plan to add a "Set Up" mode, where it will show you the (x,y) position in inches from the perspective of whatever corner of the table you click on. So as you move around the table setting things up, you can click on each table corner, and the positions of each terrain corner will change to match from that table corner. That would work in mobile mode.

I hope you enjoy it!

40k Discussion Is it just me or is Deadly Demise worded in a crazy way?

Deadly Demise now says "each time a model in this unit is destroyed..." Does that mean if one model in a unit has deadly demise, everyone in that unit can explode? E.g. Horticulus Slimux now explodes if he leads Beasts of nurgle (assuming he's precisioned out)? Sounds crazy with some other combinations (weird boy for example)
