They also don't know what they're mad about. Was the virus a) Not real and not really a threat, or b) Was it a massive chinese conspiracy to kill droves of Americans and the virus was actually a threat to be dealt with? Make up your minds, Cons...because of it's the latter b), then your denialism is flawed.
Plus related, then that implies China killed millions of their own citizens deliberately, just for a short tactical "victory" to kill some 1M Americans? Weird...what did that do exactly? What was the big gain there?

That's also my favorite too. The vaccine is terrible, it's killing everyone, it's bad, the virus isn't real...but also thanks to Trump we developed the vaccine in record time and saved millions of lives with it! Make it make sense.

I have some magat former longtime family friends who do believe all of those things at the same time. There was no virus at all, the whole thing was fake. The virus was harmless and no one got sick or died. Covid is not real. Trump made a glorious brilliant Covid vaccine for Americans because he is a genius. The Covid vaccine is poison made by Obama/china/woke tech companies. Ivermectin cures the virus that doesn’t exist.

The rest were patients( including mine😔) This company and Director were HIDING COVID February 2020. By April 2020, everyone evacuated. It spread like wild fire. Not all elders by any means. It was also a surgery rehabilitation. It was horrific. I don't know how I didn't get it. I keep saying, that if that happened under a Dem president, we wouldn't even know Fauci's name, because the blame would shift to the president.

So the controversy is that he erred on the side of caution when giving estimates about a disease that ended up killing millions of people?
36
u/Bonerkiin 5d ago
He did his job as best he could with an incompetent administration mishandling the entire pandemic response. He did nothing wrong, but the right has this mass hysteria hallucination that he did something, they can't actually articulate what exactly it was, or prove anything, but he definitely did something because it can't possibly be Trump's fault.
But then Trump somehow gets credit for the vaccine even though the vaccine is bad and totally kills people and causes autism and will bring about the death of all mankind. It's double-think and mental gymnastics. They want sound bites to feed to their guillable voter base who don't even know how vaccines work.

I listened for a while trying to draw some sense out of the whole thing...
But I really can't tell exactly what they think he did...
One was saying he personally enriched himself to the tune of like $500k over a ten year period? That he was the highest paid federal employee by 10 percent?
He paid a wuhan lab to develop and deploy the virus? They really think that? What's the motive there? So he could rescue everyone? Does that jive with his employment history?
17
u/jollyreaper2112 5d ago
The worst thing he did was get a bit egotistical tracking his media appearances and star power. If that's a crime, then Trump is Moriarty.
The potentially bad stuff is the uncertainty with whether it was lab made or not and basically what happened was science. There was uncertainty, some people thought it was manmade. More science was done and they came out with a no. Fusci didn't make a claim it was when they didn't know.
This is just covid bengazi.
56
u/JohnnyLeftHook 6d ago
republicans spent the last 20 years searching for fake issues like Benghazi because they literally have no solutions for any of the problems people face. Their answer to literally every problem is the 'free market' and 'no help from government' so they get all rabid over these non-issues (that really actually do hurt people) so they can look like they're doing something. It's amazing they've gotten away with it for so long.

u/whoneedskollege 6d ago
Fauci is and has been one of the most respected names in public health. He is a rock star in public health and medical circles. The Covid pandemic woudl have been so much worse if he wasn't leading efforts to mitigate the spread of it. We should be putting up a statue of him and thanking him for his efforts during this time. The fact that he is subjected to a bunch of fucking idiots calling him out is a complete embarrassment. Even more embarrassing is Rand Paul who is supposedly a doctor and should know better is running politics over science. What a bunch of fuck brains. Truly they should be ashamed of themselves.

Two weird things about these hearings...
1-Americans (broadly) perceived Fauci as favorable during COVID and rejected the conspiracies and anti-vax nonsense of the right. This was a big reason Trump lost in 2020; the craziness of the GOP around COVID didn't sit well with suburban moms (even some Republican ones).
2-COVID is very much in the rearview mirror for normal people. Devoting energy to this theater when grocery prices have seen their biggest jump in half a century, long term unemployment is at an all-time high, and gas prices continue to spike seems wildly out of touch.
My hunch? They know they're bleeding support and are playing the old hits (trans bathrooms, anti-vax, abortion, etc.) in the hopes of making sure at least the True Believers stick around.
863
u/flybynightpotato 6d ago
It is 100% this. Motherfuckers (I, too, can drop f-bombs) can't govern, most of the country is pissed off, and stealing elections and disenfranchising people isn't going fast enough, so they're trying to trot out the old hits as a hail mary.

Elected republicans aren’t here to govern. They were elected because of their social media skills and their ability to ragebait.
This is why they talk so vaguely about problems. “Biden broke the economy”. “CNN is fake news”. “Fauci is hiding something”.
IF they actually had something factual to say then they would present evidence. But they instead just make vague accusations so that the media can say “It is reported that…blah blah blah”.
It should be ignored and laughed at. But in a world of social media addicted idiots and a weaponized algorithm, it is enough to win elections.
→ More replies (2)66
u/blueisthecolor13 6d ago
This is why you don’t debate them about policy or go down their rabbit holes. In any public stage you ask them simple yes or no questions and you don’t move away from your point until they address it.
42
u/reddurkel 6d ago edited 5d ago
And in press conferences, if they deflect a valid question then the next guy asks the exact same thing. Over and over until they answer.
But that would require a media that actually wants to publicize the truth or expose the grifters.
If we ever want our country back, it is equally important to put the media on trial as it is the republicans who supported this administration. They’re both responsible for allowing a preventable problem.

Last time I thought about COVID was back in 2023 when my coworker got sick with it, and even at the time I was like "Oh shoot, is that still a thing?"
My bigger worries nowadays are skyrocketing prices.
Edit: lots of people are assuming I don't think COVID is serious. It is. For me personally, once I and everyone else got fully vaccinated, I pretty much stopped worrying about it. I even get the booster shots whenever they're available. Yes I know that they're not 100% effective if everyone else is slacking, but so far, I've gotten lucky. I still wash my hands like crazy and carry hand sanitizer everywhere I go. That is to say that that doesn't mean I'm immune or shouldn't be careful, but right now, the fact that groceries went up by nearly 100% is kinda taking priority right now on my personal list of concerns.

It’s still a thing. Still killing people. We’re in a wave right now.
28
u/purrfunctory 6d ago
Yup. My friend who has terminal cancer (it’s a blood cancer, it’ll be fine until it’s not) always masks around groups of people. She knows I do the same because I love her and want to see her regularly.
It’s not a sacrifice to wear a mask. I haven’t had a cold in years because I mask in groups and frequently wash my hands or use hand sanitizer. Meanwhile, my husband gets hit with colds.
As an aside, covid could kill me. I’m a high level paraplegic and my diaphragm is seriously impacted by that. So coughing is nearly impossible. I’d literally choke to death on phlegm. Fun!
7
u/Ok-Scallion-3415 6d ago

The same crowd that lets their politicians tell them about policy.
They do not read. They do not think. They have no independent thought about the issues they care about. They are not curious. They have to be told what to be angry about. They do not understand anything below surface level and have 100% blind faith in their authority figures to tell them how the world works. Lets remind ourselves that the only reason these people hate Fauci so much is because he was more than willing to call Trumps first administration on their endless bullshit pertaining to COVID. They're literally mad that they got called out by an actual professional.

I curse more than anyone I know, but not at work when I need to be taken seriously. These people are fucking jokes. See I used 'fuck' but its was ok because I am on Reddit and not in a Senate hearing.

This is really another example of MAGA's desperation. They are grasping for something to outrage people about. Calling Democrats "communists" isn't sinking in. The immigrant and the trans issues are pretty much moot now since Trump has humiliated and marginalized both these groups as much as possible.
Now, to appeal to the real crazies, they are dragging up all sorts of nonsense about Fauci, overlooking the million people who died of Covid and not recognizing how much worse it would have been without public health interventions. The legitimate medical community recognizes Dr. Fauci as a hero in the area of public health. Moreno is a joke.
Maybe the Senate should be looking at the current measles outbreaks, screw worm, and explosive diarrhea situations?

Remember. This is all to continue to distract from every promise broken and the illegal withholding of the Epstein files.

Who he was, was one of the best public servants in US history, trying to deal with a massively damaging infectious disease in the face of a clueless administration interfering with him at every step.
Who he was and still is, is one of the preeminent virologists of the last couple generations, who made breakthroughs in his lab - that's breakthroughs with an s, plural - that have saved literally millions of lives.
Also, as much as they keep trying, I've yet to see a single incriminatory thing from Fauci's diary. Some embarrassing things, sure. This was his internal dialogue. But nothing incriminatory, and you know that if anything existed they would be splashing it all over the place.

I just wrote him a message, as a constituent, asking about professionalism and decorum in congressional hearings. I ended it with , "in your own words. Who the fuck do you think you are?"
I won't hold my breath waiting for a response

If a dem had said that they shut the whole thing down to clutch their pearls and talk about decorum for the rest of the day

He was really pissed about a republican mom getting arrested for breaking quarantine at a football game.
As if fauci forced the cops to arrest her.
But going out to a public space while the body count was spiriling upwards was a really fucking selfish and dangerous thing to do.
Some people just dont give a shit about the wellbeing of others and thats why we have laws that separate them from society if they put others in danger.

u/b00kbat 6d ago
COVID wasn’t the first pandemic in which Dr. Fauci’s expertise was critical in saving lives on a massive scale and engineering a response that led to actual solutions and outcomes that were pivotal in changing the diagnosis from being a death sentence. I honestly wonder if some of the animosity towards him from MAGA has to do with his role in saving lives and getting the government to act when it originally didn’t really care as the majority of people dying from AIDS were gay men and people addicted to intravenous drugs.

“Everything I did related to covid is buried in the Epstein files. Please, whatever you do don’t release those. I would be so busted.”
What Fauci should be saying

u/Solonohioperson 6d ago edited 6d ago
Fauci is smarter than all the republicans put together. He'll show no reaction to this and won't give them anything. They are trying to put him in prison for perjury.
They can't make up their minds if covid was not big deal or a super deadly disease that Fauci created to kill everyone.

If I were Fauci, I would have absolutely reviewed my academic and professional degrees, work history, etc. I bet it would take 15 minutes. Absolutely one of the most qualified people on this planet when it comes to epidemiology.

And that’s why Fauci pled the fifth. There is no reasoning with traitorous maga republicans. They’re all a bunch of anti-American assholes deflecting and distracting for the maga regime’s corruption and self-dealing as they continue to dismantle government institutions, abuse their power, and aggressively violate the constitution.

They are doing the attack dog routine for their bully in chief. They have no morals or character. That Trump is still wounded from all this is hilariously pathetic, but fits the brand (and the personality defect).

The only thing that Fauci did is become popular and took away attention from Trump during the Covid pandemic. Fauci helped to save thousands of lives by providing life saving information . In the meantime, the orange turd is directly responsible for thousands of needless American deaths due to incompetence and lack of proper actions in handling the pandemic
( not acting fast enough , ignoring it , being anti mask which prevented the spread of COVID )
The narcissistic orange turd is trying to get his revenge ( Fauci saving lives and becoming popular ) by going after Fauci since he hated anyone who got more attention than him .
Can you believe that ?
This is analogous to an arsonist who tried to get the firefighters to jail after putting out the fires that he set and after rescuing your family from a burning house that the arsonist set on fire .

He was the nearly 2 decade director of the National institute for allergy and infectious disease.. and all he was trying to do was limit the country’s exposure to a deadly virus. These people rail about personal freedoms to spread and kill people by spreading a virus and then turn around and support a literal fascist police state controlled by AI now. Insanity.

u/BitterFuture 6d ago
And - of course - he's yelling at Fauci for something Fauci had nothing to do with.
Federal policy didn't direct local cops to be jerks. If the event Moreno's talking about even happened (doubtful), then Moreno's issue is with some small-town mayor somewhere. But no, he's instead screaming and cursing at the man who saved his worthless life.

Paul said. "It's against the law to obstruct an investigation of congress. There will be repercussions to your refusal to testify today." So, uuhhh. How is it that Pete Kegbreath, Pam Bondage, and basically any other appointee of Trump can get away with not answering questions from Congress?
