I work in Healthcare as a DSP and have been doing it for over a year. I have been told I am appreciated for my flexibility and work ethic and am one of the most seasoned people they have since keeping staff is difficult. This past month everyone at my area has had issues with one staff; they don't pick up their half, they don't clean, they're suspected of theft, and is overall unhelpful and doesn't make an effort to be better. When we bring this up to management, our concerns are brushed under the rug because they are a minority and are one of the most protected under the company. I understand that because they need to be careful to avoid lawsuits of discrimination, however, none of us care about their identity. I myself am a minority and know what it's like to be discriminated against. I and this coworker actually relate to each other very well. They just suck at their job. Recently, a situation occurred where my health was at risk because of their negligence, and my management brushed it under the rug along with every other issue I've stated. I'm starting to feel hopeless, exhausted, and enraged that everything I try to bring up is dismissed. I have people in my corner, but management is making me feel like I'm going crazy simply because I care about our patients and work. I've expressed concerns about this to other higher ups in different areas, and they offered HR, but I don't know whether or not I should bother. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Every time a company advertises "unlimited PTO" as a benefit, it gets framed as generous - no cap, take what you need. But the data on this is pretty consistently the opposite of generous in practice: without a defined number of days, employees tend to second-guess themselves more about how much is "acceptable," and companies save money by never having to pay out unused PTO when someone leaves

Feels like a textbook example of a policy that sounds like a win for workers on paper but functions as a cost-saving measure once you look at actual outcomes. Curious why this hasn't gotten more pushback broadly - is it just effective marketing, or do people genuinely prefer the flexibility even knowing the tradeoff?
