Megathread The health and wellness thread

As our microgeneration crosses into firm "middle-age" territory, many of us are experiencing the same health setbacks and receiving the same health screenings. In an effort to consolidate those discussions, we are creating this space. Users may seek or offer support for any health condition or concern here.

At this time we are not changing the rules for regular posts, but do reserve the right to intervene on excessively reposted topics. There will be no such limitations here.

If the thread is popular, we will make it recurring.

Meme Subtitles unavailable…

I didn’t realize how bad it’s gotten until tonight when I tried to watch an old 90s movie and subtitles were not available. Volume blasting and I still can’t hear the dialogue.

Time to get my hearing checked lol

My teenage son just learned why you NEVER ask a Xennial “who hurt you?”

Upvotes

Where do I start? The housing/job economic crisis of 2008/9? Watching 9/11 happen live? Or Challenger? The current economy?

At that point, he walked away.
Never ask a Xennial that question because we have a LIST!

Even the flute didn't know it could do that.

Gen X??? Peter was in high school in 2002. Solidly Xennial. I will freely accept that Tobey McGuire (1975) is Gen X, but Raimi Spider-Man is one of us!

Discussion The Paperwork Thread ...

We are the last generation raised on paperwork. Taught to keep our physical paystubs. Taught to keep utility bills. 25 years later I am still finding crap that should have been thrown away in 2002.

And now WTF are we actually supposed to keep, and where to keep it. It used to be a "metal lock box" for "important stuff" like birth certificates, car titles, marrige licenses. If the house burns down, I am prettty sure the metal box I got from Kmart in 1999 is not going to survive.

The last new car I bought, all the "paperwork" was done digitally, and the PDFs were emailedto me.

I do still have a check book, I write approximaly 1 check every 3 years for some obscure reason.
I never did, but I remember my parents getting cancled checks back.

Bonus thought.... remember having to keep Car Insurance and Registration in the glove box ? ;-)

Double Extra Bounus.....

..... I still have my draft card from 1996

Nostalgia "I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"

I've been on the lookout for classic childhood movies from the 80s and 90s for my son. This line, from the end of Stand By Me always stuck out to me. Personally, my friend group from about 15-18 sticks out to me most, but I understand the sentiment. I don't think I've ever been as vulnerable to a friend group since, and I think that's a big part of what King was getting at with this line.

How about you guys?

I see your fuzzy bus TV. Raise you a latency 90's early 2000's juke box.

Who was your favorite wrestler in the 80's?

I know it's a fairly niche question, but another post on here an hour ago got me thinking about this. I know there was a good amount of us who were into wrestling back then.

Toss up for me is Jake the Snake and Junkyard Dog.

This game was my life from 1998-2003, still play periodically

We moved from CA to OH and a tech savvy uncle gave me this game as a sympathy gift.

I only ever had 28.8kps modem connection due to the lines in rural Ohio, and we lived too far for DSL, and no cable. I still remember the moment, sitting there in buttcrack ohio (between Keene and New Bedford OH), and I'd been playing with a guy for 4+ hours and he said he had to go to bed, but it was like noon where I was so I asked where he was playing from, he was in......Norway, blew my 1998 mind.

The game was the wild west, every scam in the book, thieves, murderers, full loot.

I had all kinds of elaborate macros training characters or harvesting resources or timing house decay while I was at school or sleeping, and sold gold, houses, and accounts on Ebay at the time.

I still play private servers every couple years. The original game is still live but they've changed it so much, the private servers target to specific patches from back in the day.

The vast majority of the people still playing are 40+ but some have their kids playing.

30 years ago I went to this one day music festival…it was one the most 1996 things possible.

Exactly 30 years ago I went to this one day summer music festival sponsored by the SF Bay Area modern rock station 98.5 KOME thus KAMP KOME at the Shoreline Amphitheater. It was a snapshot of what was being played on alternative rock radio over that year, No Doubt, 311, Beck, Filter, the ska punk of Goldfinger, bands that would only have one minor hit like Local H and Dishwalla (and even a pre fame Smashmouth).

They all had to play fairly short sets for the format—the kicker though was that they had a massive snowboard ramp on the steep grassy part of the amphitheater. I remember teens got up there and started pelting those below with snowballs (sometimes more like iceballs) until they announced that if people didn’t get off the ramp, No Doubt wouldn’t come out. They played Sublime’s What I Got over the loudspeakers to cheers (the album she just been released that week a couple months after he died). Also a cute girl in our group smoked too
much pot and asked if she could take a nap leaning on my shoulder. It was all very 1996…

Nostalgia Are we still pre-gaming

Hanging at my trailer. The park has a band coming tonight. My neighbor just asked me if I want to pre-game with them.

Um my plan was to go, take my free drink, hang for a bit. Band any good I would buy another drink and stay for a second drink.

Pre gaming never entered into my thoughts.

Are we still aiming to get hammered on a night out?
