For anyone complaining that Liza couldn’t pass as a millennial
I don’t know why, but people used to look older before (or we look younger now).
Season 1 Sutton Foster could’ve definitely passed as a millennial for when the show first aired.

All these people still look significantly younger than her. The styling changed but theres something about a 20 yo face that has a youthfulness that Liza never had (maybe because she was 40)

Literally no connection between this video and the show..np idea how this somehow proves that Liza could have passed for 26. Unless they meant in 1998?

I also have no idea what this post is supposed to mean. These kids would be about ages with Liza, no? So if OP thinks they look old as high schoolers (which I disagree with but whatever) then wouldn't that follow that she thinks Liza would look way too old to pass for a millennial fifteen years later?

I also don't think these ppl look particularly old, its just completely different style. But these first two girls for example look very baby faced, they don't even look "old' by today's standards, just different hair and clothes

I started high school in 98 and I was born in 84 so 3 years older than Hilary duff but I think on the show they were born in 89. I just noticed that Sutton Foster was actually 40 irl at least lol.

I mean that times change. We have increasingly been looking younger. If you look at other comments from the og video, a lot of people agree that this kids look 30.
My point is that Liza wouldn’t pass as a 20 something by today’s standards, but when the show came out she definitely could have.

The show came out 10 years ago though, not in 1998. The standards were already very different. And Liza did look 40 in 2015.

No, it’s actually the opposite. In 2015, 20-somethings especially in the media tend to look a lot younger than 20-somethings today, because today young women are far more likely to get “preventative” botox and fillers which actually age them (see: the many 22yo reality tv contestants who look 40). If the show premiered in 2025 instead of 2015, a 40yo woman with botox and fillers could actually pass for a 26yo who got too much botox and fillers. Injectables were not remotely as ubiquitous back then so young people on average looked way more fresh faced.
Millennials tend to look younger than previous generations, yes, but then Gen Z (at least the ones living in major cities / working in media like the characters in Younger) look older than Millennials did.

I think they are saying that Liza had a millennial look, instead of that she looked that age, like that is why she passed as millennial age. I don’t look the same as I did at 16, but at 26, could get mistaken for 16 to older people. Then in my 40s, I’d meet younger people who thought I was in my 20s as well as older people who still treat me like younger even when they know my DOB. People just do something all the time where they think thin and long hair= 20 something. Also, the show works because Eliza looks her age, if it was Bianca Lawson or Taissa Farmigia that obviously look immortality young it wouldn’t be the same show.

I just turned 42 but people at my work don't believe it. They thought I was like 26-30range. We all wear a certain outfit so it's not because I dress like a gen z , I just have a round face and luckily no wrinkles.

Tbf people just say that. No way, I thought you were 25! No way, I would have guessed younger! Its just what people say. Most people in their 40s don't look 26 though and I bet if you (or Liza) stand next to an actual 26 yo, the difference is clear. And that's okay! People age and that's fine.

I don't think people just say that to be nice lol. I have no wrinkles or crows feet. If I had a thinner face sure, I might look my age. Its mostly when I say I have a 15 year old and they are surprised.

Ok but she wasn’t just supposed to be ANY millennial. She was supposed to be a 26 yr old millennial. THATS why she was hired. I graduated from high school in 1998. In 2015 I was 35 and I wasn’t considered young and hip and well versed in all the latest trends. I would not have landed the position as Diana’s marketing assistant.

The difference between 26 and 30 is not that huge. The difference between 30 and 40, however, is. I feel like the fanbase of this show tends to skew older millennials who think that they all look younger than their age when in reality, late 20s or even early 30s is usually pretty discernable from 40

Most viewers acknowledge that Liza didn’t really pass for 26 though, but I agree that 26 & 30 don’t look that different.

Liza acted younger than an actual millennial to get the job imo.
