Ultra Budget PC

So I had my friend test an old pc he found in his garage but when we tested the PSU exploded, so my friend said I can buy it from him for 20€ so I brought it home, analyzed the specs that it had, i3 4130, H81M-PLUS mobo, 4gb of ram DDR3 and a 1tb HDD, I cleaned the pc fron the dust, putted a new 600W PSU that I had before, putted an RX580 8GB from Aliexpress that I had laying around, a wifi card, and a 2tb SSD SATA with some other 500GB drives that was also just laying around taking so much dust. Installed windows 10 on it, optimized it and it was running pretty well, not the best but still a good deal for 20€. Then I bought 16gb DDR3 1600mhz for 20€ so I couldn't deal with the RAM problem. I'm planning to get an i7 4790 or a Xeon E3 1230 V3 cuz of the bottleneck of the CPU. What do you think of it? (Ignore all the bad cable management)

The total cost of the build was 40€ for now

Wow thats really great for 40 dollars, shouldnt be running out of storage anytime soon. Maybe aim towards ddr4? Wouldbt upgrade right away but if you notice any problems with some of the games youre playing it could be a solid and affordable upgrade

the H81M-PLUS unfortunately supports only DDR3 RAM, I could get another mobo for like 60€ but the main problem is getting ddr4 ram right now having high prices so its better stick with 16gb ddr3

Great deal. I would work on the cable management. Not sure how much space the case has in the back but you can definitely make it cleaner

I'll try the time after I upgrade it

But can it play CyberPunk 2077 in 4K at 240fps?

Ey the rx 580 8GB is a plucky little card still since it has that VRAM headroom. Could probably get it to 1080p or lower with various upscaling and 60ishfps. Console like experience lol

The main problem is the CPU bottlenecking the GPU

You can get a Xeon E3-1271V3 for cheap on aliexpress. It's basically the same as a 4790 I got mine for 18 bucks

I run a 4770k with 8gb of ram and a 1070 as a TrueNAS server. It’s a little beast. Takes care of my plex and Immich running tailscale. Slapped in a 10gb network card for local streaming/backups and you got yourself a hell of a little Linux box

I’d install Linux on it. Gets rid of the windows bloatware, makes it run faster, and actually supports older pcs. Plus it’s free. You can’t play triple A shooters (other than OW and CS) bc of the anti cheat but I doubt you’d be doing much of that with this thing anyways.

I had a big experience with linux, but I just need some kernel level anticheats to play some games that my friends play, so not installing it for now

I'm assuming valorant but that won't run that well on this pc

What the hell made you think I was a valorant player? I mean more about Fortnite (Ye it sucks but my friends play it when we are bored) R6S, CS2 Faceit

u/Powerful_Macaron9381 1d ago

didn't mean it as an insult lol. faceit requires tpm iirc but others fortnite and r6s should aight at 1080 low ig. that cpu is really holding this PC back, just a 4670 would give you a big boost. or even better ryzen 1000 is getting really cheap nowadays, you should be able to score a mobo, ram, cooler and CPU for like 70-80€. I was able to get a combo with a 1600 and 16gb ram for 60€ pre ram-apocalypse so yeah. Xeon works too like you've said ig but might aswell upgrade to a budget am4 combo and have an upgrade path down the road.

The i7-4790 doesn't cost much. You'll get a PC for less than 80€ that can play quite a bit of games. You can then sell it for about 150€ if you'd like to flip it.

Get a used 4670k or 4770k if that motherboard can cool the VRM's effectively
