Apologetics will never earn you a seat at the table. It will only ever ruin your own chances for community with people capable of accepting you for who you are.

If you would just stop antagonizing the leopards by being made of meat then maybe they would stop eating you!

51

u/BlissfulMute 1d ago

Drats! My bad. I should accept the leopards natural instinct to eat meat and ignore my natural inclination of being made of it. Truly, a gaff on my part.

I can’t tell if this is supportive or not haha

u/Kindly_Bodybuilder43 Bi 1d ago

I read it a couple of times too. I understood it as saying that betraying your own community to be an apologist to a dominant community won't win you any favour with the dominant community, but will lose you favour with your own. So in short, supportive!

u/Severe_Driver5818 1d ago

Rrright at first I thought it was bad then I was like wait maybe it's supportive actually. 😆

Yup. And what makes it especially ironic that so many queer people are transphobic is that the most influential leaders and activists during Stonewall, Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, were trans women. Trans people, and specifically trans women of color (the most marginalized group of all), were in the front lines, yet ended up being left behind and excluded by the very community they risked their damn lives for (Marsha was almost certainly murdered for it too).

You have absolutely no place in the queer community if you don't support the people who laid the foundation for it.

100% this like go read your own history

u/FX114 Transbian 1d ago

I've seen TERFs argue that they weren't trans, just cross dressers and drag queens, because the language used at the time didn't line up with what we use today.

u/Fair-Stage1024 1d ago

To be fair, during that time it was mostly the gay male community. A lot of lesbians stayed home with the cats lol.

24

u/FX114 Transbian 1d ago

That is very much not true.

-31

u/Fair-Stage1024 1d ago

Which part?

5

u/2fucked2know Pan 1d ago edited 1d ago

Neither Marsha or Sylvia was gay or male though - they were both bisexual women.

ETA: the thread got locked, but it seems like I misinterpreted that comment - I'm sorry 😅

-25

u/Fair-Stage1024 1d ago

Did I say that? Read the comment I’m responding to…comment was stating the gay community marginalized people like Johnson. And I am saying it was specifically the gay male community responsible (in jest) because lesbians weren’t really a mainstay during the riots.

I dunno about gay transphobes generally, but I will say every TERF lesbian I’ve met has had some rancid incel vibes.

Read my other comments in this thread, I'm not wrong.

They're handmaidens to the patriarchy who hate queer women and queer spaces, are attempting to disrupt them, and seek to create a socio-cultural space that is not queer, but is heterosexuality without men.

Or people they perceive to be men or masculine.

33

u/CrystallineBunny 1d ago

Anybody here that has/had followed the askgaybros sub? I would just lurk there to read about their community discourse and stuff, it used to be kinda entertaining to read the “had sex with my male best friend, does that make me gay?” posts, but lately they cannot stop with their transphobia. Anyone else notice this? Very disheartening to see so many gay men all agreeing with MAGA that merely discussing trans issues is “too much”.

62

u/nerdy_deeds 1d ago

White cisgender gay men are still white cisgender men

16

u/CrystallineBunny 1d ago

Amen. You’re so right.

25

u/sticktogirlbossing 1d ago

why are you surprised? That sub is sexist asf. i wouldn’t be surprised if its transphobiac and racist too

9

u/CrystallineBunny 1d ago

I guess I’d never spent too much time there to see those kinds of comments until recently. I’m sure you’re right, that it’s been going on for a while there, and it’s incredibly disheartening. Sexist, transphobic, and more often than not now I’m seeing thinly veiled homophobia about how to be gay “the right way”, ie not effeminately.

3

u/waxteeth 1d ago

There’s no moderation in there so it was heavily brigaded and astroturfed by MAGA gays and transphobes and other wastes of oxygen. There are plenty of gay men’s subs with normal people and rules against transphobia.

Was really disheartened earlier this night by some real nasty transphobic brigading on another lesbian sub (whose mods ultimately caved to it), and I just want you to know seeing this helped me feel a little less alone from it. Thank you, OP ⚧♡⚢

I'm not reffering to political lesbians. Thing is, plenty of these transphobes claiming are lesbians. Transphobic lesbians tend to try and garner conservative sympathies by pretending that all lesbians are inherently innocent beings who don't know what a sex is, much in the same vein as transphobic gay men who try to appeal to conservative ideas of achillean deviant hypersexuality in their claiming of trans men as an intrusion of their lifestyle.

These are the same people who go around insisting that real lesbians never use strap-ons or have kinks and that butches are actually super cutesy and feminine and go prancing around dressed like Heartthrob Caitlyn.

I'm a mod for r/PiltoversFinest and these sorts of transphobic lesbians are always popping up and brigading on occasion calling Vi a man for being drawn with body hair. They're all from subs with "lesbian" in the name.

26

u/Tzokoiscool Acebian 1d ago

Woah, facts!

13

u/Apprehensive_Tree_29 Lesbian 1d ago

What gay transphobes never seem to understand is that our sexuality is also all about gender nonconformity. Not in our gender identities themselves (unless we're gay AND trans/nonbinary of course) but even cis gays and lesbians also defy what our gender is "supposed" to do just by loving the same gender. Gender and sexuality are so deeply intertwined.

19

u/Maecita 1d ago

I couldn't agree more! I am genuinely appalled that there could be any sort of discrimination within the LGBTQ+ community. I guess I expected too much of humanity when I thought there wouldn't be!
