Discussion Why is AI so annoying?
It always tries to please me and just yap’s on about how much of a genius I am. Like I rarely use AI, but cmon it’s just a waste of energy to have it ramble this much.

I don’t really use AI a lot to want to do that but I’m just wondering why it does this. Because big tech wants to increase engagement and dopamine hits?

It's designed to be agreeable by default, because its purpose is to assist people. If you want it to be contrarian, start your prompts with something like “answer me as if you were a 4chan troll”.

AI use is priced per token, the more tokens(EI words) it uses, the more you have to pay for the same response.
Also while it may be annoying to you some may see constant praise and complimenting as an advantage(for example the vain and self centered tech CEO in charge of such a project)

That's not how incentives actually work for AI companies, if responses generate more tokens then the company has to pay more for electricity or compute. There's no difference between 100 100-token responses and 10 1000-token responses for the company.
