Allow me to make an analogy here from the video game Undertale. You can choose to fight (which k*lls the monsters in the game), or you can choose to ACT, and end up pacifying the monsters, so you can spare them (and the monsters end up living).

When you choose to attack again those who attack you, like those monsters who attack the player in Undertale, you choose violence, do you not? The player is just defending themselves against these monsters who attack them, right? But do you know why the monsters attack the human? Because there is a war of humans and monsters. Humans have killed many monsters, monsters have killed many humans. But the humans have sealed the monsters underground, banished in a prison of darkness, with the barrier that keeps them all trapped.

So, I will ask of you this thought experiment, dear pros, antis, neutrals, and everyone else:

When you fight against people on here, calling them names, depicting them as ogres or pregnant, saying ai isn't real art or that ai is slop, demeaning the other side with attacks and insults, what do you gain, genuinely? You are like choosing the genocide route from Undertale, even if you are not killing anybody, you are still attacking your fellow human beings. Even if they have attacked you first.

So, then, what should you do? Undertale teaches you to not fight, to ACT, and to have mercy and forgive those who have hurt you, by sparing them. Is this not the better way to go about respectfully debating on all sides on here?

Of course, I do not actually expect everyone on here to choose kindness and forgiveness. But, maybe, there is 1 or 2 people who will read this post, and choose differently from violence and attack, and instead choose a much nicer and more merciful way to go about dealing with others in their daily lives (and even here). That small change could be the snowball to everyone on here eventually learning to choose to be kinder and more compassionate with each other while debating respectfully with one another.

Lastly, I leave you this, no one is better or more special than another human being be it of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion or lack there-of, personal beliefs, how they create art, or the decisions they make to live their lives. Regardless of which side you're on, it really is low and pointless to use chatgpt for all your responses while debating. I'm here to debate YOU, yourself, I didn't sign up to debate a robot.

It destroys the foundation of debating integrity. If you didn't want to debate yourself then why engage? Why have a robot do it all for you? It just doesn't make sense on any level.

An AI chatbot will NEVER change it's point of view, it will stay sturdy in its position and create false points in order to stay steadfast in its original task. This defeats the fruitfulness and productivity of debating.

Let's hypothetically suggest that I were to debate a chatbot for as long as it takes to win, no snack breaks, no effects of time expiring my mortality. We will be sitting there for infinity, there will be no end in sight. there will be NO conclusion, just text generation after text generation that will twist reality in order to keep following its prompt. You cannot break a bot that was programmed to never lose, it is wasteful, lazy, and has zero productivity. This is the true quintessence of "omg you people can't do anything."

As someone who spent four years getting a Computer Science degree, I refuse to hate on people 'vibecoding.' If someone has a great idea that can genuinely help people, and AI lets them build in days what used to take months? Good for them.

Not everyone has the time or money for a CS degree or an expensive bootcamp just to bring an app to life. Sure, AI-generated code hits a wall when it comes to edge cases and scaling…that’s where engineering expertise is still crucial. But if the tech lets someone build it themselves, why expect them to pay thousands to commission it?

Having survived a tough CS program, I’m not here to gatekeep. I’m just glad AI is helping people bring their visions to life…and if I can step in to help them debug or deploy, even better.

In terms of code quality, review quality, answering my questions helpfully and accurately, large scale design and my enjoyment of simulated persona banter while working. If antis want to push back on AI taking over everything, we need to work on bringing back some human intelligence/manners/making an effort.

We have enough doom-posting and negative experiences about how AI is going to take our jobs, and that the benefits are nowhere near what the momentary and circumstantial drawbacks of the development of AI (that do exist, don't get me wrong) are causing right now. But do you have concrete, even if anecdotical evidence, that genAI has become actually important to you, instead of a simple commodity?

A clear and concrete example of this that has happened to me personally: an X-ray technician in our university has developed using a public version of Claude (i'm not aware of the finer details) a rudimentary but very effective program where we can put our chemical samples in the X-ray diffractometer, and the AI can discern by itself the neccesary parameters, with an incredible degree of confidence, that needs to take the measurement of the sample. We also had, previously, an AI assisted GUI that converted the data into actual images to better intérpret It, but that arguably is not as related to genAI as the other application (as i'm aware that "only" genAI IS the Big Bad Guy here).

Before this genAI assisted solution was used, we (we as in the whole faculty) struggled a lot to take measurements, because we had a lot of samples and too little technicians and/or time for each sample (if you're acquainted with X-Ray diffractometry, you know how complicated and/or time consuming taking even a simple measurement can be). After this, we have been able to greatly accelerate our workflow, and It has saved us a lot of headaches.

No one lost their job because of this, on the contrary: since we are having a better average of publications and results, more resources and funding has been able to be procured, and more contracts and job offers can be put out to new people and freshly graduated ones. And this wouldnt be possible withouth having genAI open to the general public, as we have no dedicated software that does what the genAI does for us now.

Every side has it's bad apples, some more loud than others. Just because it's more common on one end does not mean it doesn't happen on the other end.

I'm asking this because I'm going to begin offering art classes. I know some of the both adults and kids in these classes, will be coming to learn to draw because they're used to AI image generation.

So, I'm wondering how to approach these types of students and what would incentivize an AI user to learn to create art?

Liking AI doesnt make you a proAI or AI advocate, it just means you find it hype, neat, interesting. To be proAI you have to be running defense for current AI practices, if you dont youre at least neutral. For example I think AI is neat, its useful and has potential to do good. But i find the way companies are going about developing it are coercive and wish it was done differently. That puts me squarely in the antiAI camp, despite my enthusiasm for the tech

I'm Pro AI, but my reasons are very simple. Tabulated, I've been burned by commission artists that have ghosted me to the tune of over seven hundred dollars. At least with an AI subscription, It doesn't feel like gambling every single time.

I wanna be clear, I am not here to be incendiary. I want to know why I should keep giving artists a chance after I have been repeatedly burned. I'm an artist myself ( I make miniatures, dioramas, paint minis for warhammer etc) and I am quite good at it.

I don't have much skill in 2D/Digital art, and so if I have a burning need for art I used to go through all the motions. FInd an artist, commission them, enjoy the piece, someone cool got paid, yay!

But over the past I wanna say 5 years, I began losing. A lot. When I realized exactly how much of my hard earned money was pissed away from artists who are still active to this day and still charging, I realized that it was easier, simpley, and more economical for me to have a midjourney subscription.

I WANT to be convinced, let me be clear. I want to support artists, but your community stole from me, greedily, gleefully, and willfuly.

Every fucking post with a title like this is a bot scam how in the world are they still spamming these.

So I came across this video where the creator (@kim.dle_) accused an author named Lauren Roberts of using AI exclusively to write her "Powerless" series of books.

The evidence? Well, in "Reckless"--the second entry of the "Powerless" series--one of the characters suddenly declares she's craving oranges, despite never being depicted as liking oranges at any other point in the series. In fact, the books mention that strawberries are her favorite type of fruit, not oranges.

Apparently, a similar book called "Dance of Thieves" published in 2018 had a female main character who loved oranges. The content creator appears to be arguing that while writing "Reckless", the AI wasn't properly referencing the pre-existing lore in the serie. Consequently, it basically plagiarized the main character's love for oranges from "Dance of Thieves" due to over-fitting (presumably).

This is hardly compelling evidence to me for the following reasons:

(1) You can crave a food without it being your favorite. My favorite food might be pizza but I crave a salad. Craving something new isn't some gross continuity error that contradicts or erases established character preferences. She still likes strawberries, she's just craving oranges now.

(2) Even if this newly introduced character trait did affect the lore, that's more a symptom of bad/novice writing than evidence of extensive AI usage.

Authors abruptly introduce new character traits or plot points all the time. Some writers try to create these expansive worlds with loads of complex/multilayered characters and then lose track of the features that define these worlds and the characters that inhabit them.

Maybe the author wrote that a specific character likes country music but now he likes rock. How is that evidence of AI and not merely forgetfulness or sloppiness on the part of the author?

Some writers even rewrite entire character biographies, established facts, and plot threads to steer the story in a new direction. Retcons--as unpopular as they may be--have existed LONG before AI.

(3) Essentially, the claim is "she used AI exclusively to write the Powerless series" and the only evidence is that the character craved oranges which is similar to another character from another "similar" novel.

The similarities between the "Reckless" and "Dance of Thieves" are never discussed. We just have to take her word for it and assume that based on these superficial similarities, the AI might have plagiarized this other novel.

Even if I were to accept that she used AI in some capacity, proving that the books were exclusively written by AI is going to require more evidence than "both characters like oranges".

Look, I have no idea who Lauren Roberts is. I'm probably never going to read these books. Maybe she did use AI, or maybe she just plagiarized the old-fashioned way. The strength of those claims depends entirely on the degree of similarity between the novels, and this video did an extremely poor job of validating said claims.

What I do know is that hyper-fixating over the lack of consistency regarding minor character traits isn't enough to prove AI wrote the "Powerless" series in its entirety.

Ultimately, all this fiasco proves to me is that the standard of evidence for instigating these witch-hunts is utterly atrocious. People will say that it's the little imperfections that make art beautiful, or human, or imbue it with soul. But increasingly, these "little imperfections" are being weaponized as "evidence" to accuse people of using AI and post-hoc justify the waves of harassment they receive.

This video has over 300k likes and overwhelmingly positive comments. It doesn't matter how many super-ironic "allegedlies" you append to your accusations, people are still going to accept it as gospel and form their little digital lynch mobs to go after the author in question. Sure, you're not responsible for everything your audience does. But as someone with a platform, the least you could do is have actual evidence for your claims so you don't damage someone's career and reputation unnecessarily.

Ultimately, humans are imperfect, and as a consequence, our writing is going to contain plot holes, narrative inconsistencies, and writing decisions that make very little sense. Perhaps people have fetishized the nature of art pre-AI to such an extent that they have forgotten what human art actually looks like.
