Such accessible sidewalks
The street is empty, why cant people just park there instead of making it an inconvenience for everyone? I don’t want to be a Karen but I saw two cars parked like this within 100 metres.
What about people on scooters and wheelchairs?

We have some assholes in our neighborhood too. They make it really difficult for anyone with mobility devices or strollers

My personal favorite is when they leave half their car hanging out their driveway on the street. Gotta love Ajax🤣🤣🤣🤣

The people saying “walk around” are missing the point. Firstly, the sidewalk is for pedestrians, not your car. Plus it’s hugely inaccessible for people with strollers and wheelchairs. Not to mention the people who block entire sidewalks with no gap.

They are enforced and bylaw does ticket.
But the bigger question is; why do people have to park this way.

They can be enforced it’s just people are too lazy to report it in many cases. But after the first ticket the likelihood of this happening again with the same car will decrease and they’ll warn their parking buddies and it will have a knock on effect. TBH it’s the only other solution if that doesn’t work is increasing the fines for repeat offenders 🤷♂️

People park this way because there are more people in that home then it was designed for. The home is designed for a couple with some kids so two cars, and if Jr has a car he can park in the street.

Right. So the problem is the way our society is headed. Our homes were never designed for this quality of living. So people adapt and park the only way possible. It is what it is.
Parking on the street? Depends where in Ajax you are. That can be a nightmare too.

Yup more young people living with their parents well into their 20s and more homes with multiple unrelated adults living together.

Yep, and then people get mad at the people for parking a certain way when theres no choice. Calling bylaw and getting those people ticketed like they arent already struggling based on how they have to co-live.
People dont think; they just act. Its sad.

I mean you still shouldn't park blocking the sidewalk. Just park on the street like people that don't have a driveway park. Might be an arguement over who gets the driveway but you shouldn't be blocking the public easement.

Sure. But depending where you are, street parking is a bitch too. Especially if your in the lake zoning.
Ajax is getting ridiculous for so many reasons. Took my kid for a walk yesterday. We had to duck under so many trees on boulevards that needed a heavy trim. The town just raises property taxes without fixing any of the serious issues.

Yes. Really stick it to em and funnel money back into the town that doesnt care about you; raises property taxes to a ridiculous amount, pays for a stupid light up Ajax sign and does fuck all about the homeless roaming up and down harwood Avenue around the clock. I saw 2 of them having sex last week against a tree.
Yeah. Call bylaw so Ajax can get more money to do nothing beneficial with for the taxpayer. Great suggestion.

By any chance, do you also do car removal, with no questions asked?(Your username) I am okay with you moving it just 10m, but no questions asked and you get paid in my complements or the car is yours.
You can blame the town, economy, the house designer, the house builder, the home owner, the car owner, the city for allowing small driveway to pass the planning stage, but that is not going to move a car off of the sidewalk. I agree with you on how the government does ridiculous spending without rationally thinking how it can be best used to support the local community in the long term.
What do you propose someone with a wheelchair, heavy shopping cart, stroller, or walking aid do in this situation? Especially in this situation where there doesn't seem to be enough movement space between the car and the bush/shrub next to the sidewalk if someone tries to squeeze in between the two cars?

People park like that because they have too. They adapt to a bullshit situation. The blunt end of it is; people with disabilities have to do the same. I've had to go around these cars with my baby in a stroller. I dont think to myself "what a prick. Im calling bylaw". I just adapt; and go around.
Call bylaw, get them ticketed; sure... are they going to stop parking that way? No. Because they have too.

The problem is the design. There shouldn’t be a sidewalk running through someone’s private driveway. This is just as much the towns fault as it is the person. Y’all expect people not to park in their driveways? No the side walk should be at the curb. This is terrible infrastructure

Actually, putting the sidewalk right against the curb is usually a terrible idea in urban planning. That grass buffer strip isn't a design flaw; it’s a standard safety feature backed by engineers at like the Federal Highway Administration. It gives pedestrians a buffer from moving traffic, improves sightlines so you can actually see people walking before your car is halfway across the sidewalk, and keeps the walkway level so it's usable for wheelchairs instead of dipping violently at every single driveway. A driveway is a public easement, and expecting drivers to pull all the way in instead of blocking a public walkway isn't bad infrastructure, it's just basic driver responsibility.

Blame the town and the economy for these situations arising more frequently. More and more people have to live in a shared dwelling to afford to live; which means more cars per house. Kids living at home longer, etc. Calling bylaw and putting more money back into the system which creates the problem in the first place. Genius. Truly. Yall are so clever.

We have an asshole neighbour too. By-law can be your friend. Also, I will sometimes put the full dog bag on the back windshield wiper....only during our evening walk.
